Sythe PR Team - feedback & suggestions

Show some form of competence for the subject belong potential google searches, and maybe some actual results would be lovely.

 

We are already doing this but we would love to hear your suggestions!

 

The No Man's Sky section doesn't belong on the homepage as a main section. Reserve those slots for PR explosions for major releases that benefit the market on Sythe. If you set up a new section for "Other Game Discussions" and create sub-sections that won't flood the main page, you will create an SEO heaven for resource dumps on new game releases. Creating reviews, tutorials, and resource deposits will create plenty of PR campaign material to pull people into the community from Steam, Reddit, Social Media, and other modern sources.

Right now it feels like your team is focusing on building a complete new No Man's Sky community, which is not possible in my perspective. You will see many forums out there with dedicated domain names to pulling in a population of people for everything related to that game. If you type in No Man's Sky community into Google, you will find them. Save the main sections for games that have real promise. People typically stay within the Steam discussion board for updates and reviews too. Your team should be focusing on collecting a ton of resources and releasing them in a thread like you've already done for No Man's Sky. Once again, I believe you guys did a tremendous job gathering high-quality content. The biggest problem that I noticed was the thread titles. I believe one of the prominent requirements to joining the PR team is to have an excellent writing ability. The thread title is the most important aspect of any advertisement. It is the first impression someone will make before reading the content. The only thread titles that would be acceptable are KingL's and your bottom thread.





Create unique titles that people would search for in Google, but have weak competition. Most of the wording is fine, but capitalizing certain words while not capitalizing others that should be in the title; will annoy certain people and provoke a lower conversion when displayed to the public. Use this: Title Capitalization: Your Online Title Case Tool is it's required.

To keep a good public face, you can't slack off on those important details. It takes just a moment to correct those mistakes.

In four days your team filled up that section with content, now it is time to advertise that on those different sources I mentioned and moved on to a new section. Yeah, you need to get people attracted to the website's content; but you will have a difficult job when you're selling it that hard. If your team is the only one contributing content, then it will be a failure. Get the threads created and start on other games. People are always finding Steam games and googling detailed reviews and resources. If you figure out what they want, you can pull in the traffic. An excellent method for Steam is by creating a Sythe steam account. Use that account to write your reviews using their system in the store, and link them to a more detailed discussion with resources on Sythe. That will create a high-quality backlink for people that are interested in finding out more about the game.

You will run into extremely popular games with enormous potential, but much bigger competition. Take Pokemon Go for example. Richard's PC client, bot distribution, and the market has generated an unbelievable amount of people to registration on the site. Without the PC client, bot, and market; it would be a huge flop for Sythe. If you find a great game opportunity, correspond with the Technical Core team and find a way to develop something that will attract people.

This next idea is a stretch because I don't think the Technical Core would be interested in spending the time to do it, but I'll go ahead and mention it. If the TC built mods for games, that would drive people to the site, and you could use it for an incredible PR campaign. I've not looked at the Minecraft server in detail, but I saw that they had a Pokemon mod added to it. You could focus a campaign on bringing people to the site specifically for that fantastic feature.

Overall, I think you should reevaluate the strategy with the No Man's Sky section.

I sent an application into the Technical Core yesterday because I felt like it best suited my skill set, but I'm interested in contributing to this development. Richard mentioned in another thread that he would prefer all of the groups merged eventually, and I completely understand that perspective. I don't even know which group I should be applying to because all of your jobs correspond to each other. The Technical Core develops fantastic PR opportunities. The CDT should be creating that content and stick around in each of the forums to build up a community for each of them if it's possible. The PR team should be optimizing the content for SEO purposes and promoting campaigns for each of them. Whenever new favorite content is created in an old section, the PR team can still use it. You don't have to focus on a single focal point.

 

This. You guys literally requested a section to be created and ONLY PR team members are posting in it. These are the little things that will continue to upset the community. You guys have yet to produce something of value in my opinion.

We are already currently looking into doing this with the biggest gaming portion of Sythe - which is runescape.

Not our immediate goal.

With the exception of a couple replies, we actually haven't been pushing it that hard. It dosent help that No Man's Sky was a flop.

TCT seems unwilling to work with the CDT and PR from what I've seen. The PR team is more than willing to help them out whenever necessary however.

Some feedback:

- Tweets sent out by the Sythe Twitter account look like they were done by a bot, seriously annoying to see on my timeline (also not very engaging for followers)

- This is also feedback for the other teams: threads such as yesterday's (RSPS Voting) are absolutely disgusting to see simply because you click on the thread and there's a massive wall of text in front of you. Cut it down, straight to the point bulletpoints if needed and make it more userfriendly.

Re: your sythe steam account for reviews; waste of time and effort.

Sythe links are actually blacklisted on steam. This means the only feasible way to accomplish this task would be via URL shortener which alone would discourage clicks due to the nature of abuse shorteners are frequently used for.

In theory it's a good idea, but in practice it will not work.

 

Great points, I didn't realize Sythe links were blacklisted on Steam. I wanted to verify your mention, and it is indeed the case. Not even the URL shortener would work for me; it gets removed too. My next attempt was to shorten a shortened URL, but they don't allow that. The next step that I took is Googling Sythe and grabbed Google's URL to the site. We're allowed to link this.

After taking that and hyperlinking it to the text of "Sythe | The Craigslist of Virtual Goods", you essentially have an acceptable method of linking to people at the end of your reviews. This method does lower the quality of the backlink, but it still brings Steam community users to the site via our reviews. I believe I could set this up with a referral link for the CDT/PR/TC groups to keep track of referrals using an account on Sythe for statistics and see if it's contributing to site growth.

Also, I've verification that this review concept works if done appropriately. If you consider brand new games, you will gain exposure. This is especially true when discussing Indie development projects. Using social media accounts, you can shout out to these companies with your review. Thus creating more backlinks and they occasionally respond. If you get the attention of the developers, you can request them to re-tweet your reviews. I made a few reviews for self-entertainment in the past, and I pulled a decent amount of traffic to my blog with little effort applied.

What if you buy Sythe.co, Sythe.info, Sythe.website or Sythe.online domain? These ones cost only a few bucks at Godaddy.

 

That's a @Sythe question. Even then, with sythe.org blocked by steam, I doubt it would take long for them to block any other domain we attempted to use in order to circumvent the block. Ultimately, would likely be a waste of money and effort in the long run.

Isn't the PR team's job to bring in new members? Not really sure how making Mez commentate content (that no one really cares about to be brutally honest) is helping attract new members to the site. The videos on the official Sythe Youtube channel are perfect for anyone looking for a good laugh though so you gotta give em that. Mez's deadpan commentaries scream "I fucking hate my job but I want to keep my funrank so I'll commentate this bullshit anyways."

 

i dont think anyone knows what the PR team does. maybe it would help encourage feedback if you compiled a list of things the PR team has achieved in the last two months? just a thought

Don't think you guys do anything constructive and are all in it for the fun rank par mez. He's the only person who we actually see do something via his commentaries and videos. I don't whatever you're doing buyacc (if anything) is working pal so if you step down we'd all understand. Now the constructive criticism, please make everything you guys do crystal clear because no one actually has a clue.
