Trick question earth being round has nothing to do with a wall being built.

The curvature of the earth from a relative point of view would have no affect, but rather the terrain he builds on.

Jim's goal is to build a wall, not prove the earth is round, even on that scale the earths curvature wouldn't hinder what the blueprints called for as building material, and the overlords who look over this wouldn't know that it was asking to much for what was called for as they do not have the intellect as jim being a engineer, and if they do in this fairly tale world of yours, then they would have the knowledge to discover the earth is in fact round, and if needed to test this theory jim can send others out to gather the data for him since he is not allowed to leave the city.


Now then what impudent idea will you come up with next to discredit this theorem on your vast war to prove your higher knowledge that you've acquired, but have yet to get any real world experience with?

But if jim is in a era were space exploration doesn't exist they wouldn't have the tools for laser precision on a large scale basis, and would most likely follow the path of just surveying using the horizon.

Also the curvature of the earth wouldn't affect the volume of concrete used but rather the terrain and the changes in altitude to keep it more or less leveled From a personal perspective. If you look at the grand scale may the curvature affect the amount? maybe. but due to our perspective and not sensing the earth is round to begin it would have no bearings on a project of that scale.

Also the height of the wall at 2km wouldn't be feasible in that era as they wouldn't have the engineering skills to build a foundation to withstand that much weight.

But in that day in age they wouldn't have the skills to produce material that could withstand that much weight, and even if you say it's all one piece it is not, concrete is done in a series of foundation while being tired in with extruding rebar. Also There is a difference in strength based on disturbed dirt and natural dirt, Mountains do not collapse in on themselves due to the fact that it has been compacted and formed over millions of years, but if you are to terraform the lake bed, that is going to severely weaken it as a foundation.

With the amount of weight that would be put into that and it being a lake bed which mostly likely has a natural spring below it would most deff sink and collaspe.

You should do some research into soil compaction which would be required for a project of that scale, but in your era they wouldn't have the technology to do it. We have to do calculations every time before we even put a crane on sight and must determine it's max live load aswell as dead load before allowing it to be placed on disturbed soil. Many soil types have different load bearings and that lake bed wouldn't be a good one.
