SVU Requirements

Yeah, it seems changing the name might be the best option to date.

 

Newcomer can't even find the report section http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?p=15049153#post15049153 and you guys expect newcomers to do a background check on what an SVU is? Completely ridiculous and unrealistic.

 

I wouldn't say you can buy trustworthyness by donating and getting SVU. To some newcomers you probably appear trustworthy, but to regular users your donations and SVU means very little.

I'd prefer for it to be removed but renaming it is probably the better option. That said, I have no idea what it could be changed to.

Any word on this from staff about updating SVU?

Not to my knowledge, but then again, I'm not in the loop in any regard. But considering numerous mods and even Matthew have posted, it is a possibility this could be being discussed.

 

Can A staff member put some input on this? I really think this needs to be changed.

 

Heavy support. Misleading name and easy to achieve.

 

I'm on the remove it train. I've seen too many people being scammed by the SVU method. Don't know even if a name change could help, as people will always be stupid.

 

Remove it, and you owe people refunds. So to avoid that whole issue, it's best to change the name. The reason its misleading is the whole false trust it gives people. The word verified means "make sure or demonstrate that (something) is true, accurate, or justified." That being said, giving someone with the title of Sythe Verified User signifies that they are true, and justified by Sythe, as in the website. Therefore, people drawing conclusions that they are legitimate. A word more accurate would give people a more accurate picture.

 

I'm having a pretty good idea:
SVU being only available for donors over 100/200$
Only verification is to show ID card via video conversation through skype. How many of you agree on this?
Upon scamming, ID card details will be sent to the victim

 

I think the most important think to do something with SVU is to get more irl details from the SVU ranks.

It's been stated earlier in the thread that the purpose of SVU was to add extra protection while it being automated. With this being the case, having a laborous process would make it extremely slow for someone to become an SVU, and I'm sure admins would not want to have to do that.

 

This process would only take like 5 mins, is it soo long to see who can be trustworthy and who can't? I'm fairly sure Roary would be willing to to that. But w/e, it was just a suggestion

 

5 mins for multiple people per day who are trying to get SVU. It's just another task that the admins don't need. UIs take around a day or more to be approved. So it'll likely be even longer for SVU, as that requires more time.

 

On top of that, moderators wouldn't be able to do this. Really, the only person I would even trust with my personal details is Matthew. And Matthew doesn't have the time to verify them manually like that. No where near the amount of time he would need. Changing the name is the only method that will fix the SVU rank.
