Embrace Discord

I think Discord needs improved before making it official. I'm still a advocate for keeping this a kid-friendly place beyond just getting trolled. NSFW needs to be a exclusive chat and I think there needs to be sections added that somewhat mirror the sections here on Sythe. Once it's properly set up I think it's a awesome idea to have everyone use it and make it "Official". Right now it's pretty much a free for all with a lot of discussion content that has no real place to be discussed and then some fucked up porn lol.

 

I'd personally love to see an official discord.

 

If we go that far and mirror Sythe sections, what will Sythe be used for besides trading? I love Discord but it's counter intuitive in the sense that it reduces actual posting on the forums while strengthening the community. I think back to the LoL Skype chat that we used to be active in. It honestly brought a lot of us together in ways that discussing on the forum wouldn't, while pretty much removing the need to actually post in the LoL section because we could just tell everyone what we wanted to say right through the chat.

 

Yeah, I can see that point. I think most of the discussion that'll take place will take place here on Sythe. I think that people generally like this platform better for discussion because it allows you to take your time to formulate responses and thread ideas. I don't think Discord would subtract from that much because it'd mostly be the spammy stuff we wouldn't want made into posts in most of the sections here anyway.

You can see by going to the Discord now, it's just people selling and spamming, I'm more than happy to send that part of Sythe into a Discord because I think that's where that type of communication fits the best. Sythe is better for thought-out and conscious responses with the exception of the Spam Forum.

Forums and group instant messaging platforms have entirely different purposes and I don't really think Discord will subtract from, but rather add to the Sythe experience, if done properly.

 

This is actually a really good suggestion. It can become a successful platform for all Sythe users to communicate with more security. Besides, apart from trading the community will get to know each other a lot more too as "official" will encourage users who may not really be using Discord right now.

 

I support 100%. Much safer than Skype, TeamSpeak, Ventrilo, and raidcall. If it were up to me, I would add a discord button to the top of the homepage or somewhere visible whereby clicking it would lead you directly to the Sythe discord server.

Of course, making it official would give it more credibility, which can help streamline activity to the server. I remember 4 years ago, in the Zybez Ventrilo and also my TeamSpeak server, there would be 20-30 people playing Hide and Go Seek in Runescape with prizes. I have to say, it was the most fun I had with this game.

Furthermore, I can't express how easy and safe discord is. No necessary installation, Unique IDs and no risk of having any unwanted information exposed (eg. IP address). Translating to no risk of being DDoSed (a possibility on Teamspeak), or matching with an imposter (a risk on Skype).
