Ok, so I just read this whole thread, and kept questioning to my self, thinking I did not have a clue what SVU was, why it was there, what it stood for, if it was necessary, and that was because everyone has it and because I simply did not know what it was, and actually didn't care to know what it was cos of that reason, till I read this thread. So, the mentality that everyone has saying newcomers think it means your trusted.. .. I didn't think that? I don't know if I'm the rare 1 out of the rest of newcomers, but everyone has it, it doesn't look like anything that needs to be looked at. If newcomers haven't realised to view actual vouches and screenies etc of proof of legitimacy then they're really asking to be scammed... if they look at SVU and think hey! this guy is legit!.... Also agree with Bleu; if people can't read the rules and necessary threads that the ranks have put in place, then YES.. people are asking to be scammed if their looking at SVU.

It's an extremely generic rank that nearly everyone seems to have, and reading this thread no wonder, so easy to get. For that reason I would imply scrapping it, from a newcomers point of view. Changing the name wont effect much, because apparently people still assume "hey that guy has a rank he must be legit", I'm genuinely shaking my head at the thought that people can be so simple minded whether your thinking all newcomers believe SVU means something, or newcomers think SVU means trusted. I just don't get it.

 

Should be removed altogether in my opinion.

 

Support. I understand the background to having it, but it's just not worth having kids scammed because they think it means trust

 

I absolutely disagree with you. Why do you have to be a $50-100 donor to be SVU? It should be opened for everybody. It's sad that the trustworthyness in this site is based on the amount you've donated.

 

I don't think requirements should change anymore. But I do think there is no reason for it to be around. For what it takes to get it, it is extremely misleading. People will sometimes only trade with SVUs on the pretense that it means they are actually verified and trusted, when in reality, some are no where near trusted.

 

Completely agree , SVU is very easy to get it doesnt make a person trusted at all.People should just get that in there head, also the info given in the process of getting svu is easily spoofed making it easy for people to pretend to be trusted because there SVU and still end up scamming people.I dont see a reason why it should be there in the first place.

Anyone doing a trade under the assumption that SVU guarantees them scam-proof has not put enough thought into it.

Firstly, if you ARE under this assumption, it means that you've done your research into what an SVU is, right?

Therefore, you should be fully aware that an SVU only means that Sythe has documentation of their paypal information and verification that they are who they claim to be.

This is only for prosecution purposes AFTER a scam. Not BEFORE.

Changing the name wouldn't make a difference in ignorance.

Removing the feature I don't support because it does offer that extra bit of safety.

The matter of the fact is that very few people look into what SVU means, trust them implicitly and get scammed in the end. How often this happens is astonishing; therefore, something should be changed. In addition, there really isn't much of any added safety. Fake phone numbers from free texting apps and a fake paypal is extremely easy to do.

 

Personally, I think SVU should be like becoming an OMM, you need to have a certain amount of vouches from different users, not including "newcomers" considering someone could make fake accounts and vouche themselves. Like have a certain amount of vouche trades with vouches from OMM and such to prove they really did go through with the trade and after a certain amount of successful and noted trades, you're able to get the rank SVU.

 

Personally, I don't see something like that working too well. I think it's just best to change the title to be more appropriate or to scrap it altogether.

 

If those are your only two options, I'd prefer that it's just removed. If we're just trying to make it less misleading then we've already determined that it's a useless rank

I can see what you're trying to accomplish, but like dunworry said I think it just wouldn't work logistically. As I stated before, I'm all in favor of removing the rank as well.

Don't really mind the SVU tag

What i can suggest is this.

SVU should have to deposit $100 usd, Kind of like a retainer. they can get their deposit back at any point. This deposit ensures that if the SVU was to scam, The scammed person, is refunded up to 100 dollars.

People like me dont come to sythe to donate all of my earnings. Im here to make a little side money, Help the community. So forcing me to donate large amounts isnt the way to go.

Again, there needs to be a 6month on forums period before svu can be acquired.
Then the initial deposit of 100 usd to protect people in the event of a scam.
Yes, sure... they can scam more. But by limiting the users allowed svu, deposit. Scammers are less likely to try.
Because in the instance that they get caught trying to scam, They are banned, with no refund to their deposit.

Edit: Also, The user needs to be active through the period of 6 months. Not- make an account, sit for 6 months, then boom.
Has to be a quality community member.

 

I am not in favor for removing the rank in total, As i donated for the rank.
By removing the rank, there would have to be an issue of refunds.
