SVU Requirements

I'm for this.
I feel like SVU should be scrapped until there's a better alternative. The Driver License idea could be good until you realize people get fake ID's all the time, as well as fake passports. I don't think SVU really works since it implies that you really are verified. There is no way to verify someone through the internet. False sense of security should be removed completely.

 

they've already scraped donor seals which looked good. I feel as if you need a certain level of trust in order to obtain this rank. Maybe Post count, amount of vouches etc. We have a CDT here and I feel that they can contribute by voting whether if the user deserves SVU or not. This way it can decrease the chance of users being scammed. Thoughts?

 

We are not going to determine whether or not somebody is trusted by using the CDT.

Maybe change the title SVU to something different. When someone newer sees Sythe Verified User, they think that it's cause they've been inspected and trusted by the site.

Can't think of something to name it but might be an alternative to just completely scrapping the idea.

 

From what I've seen, the problem is the title of this rank, not the rank itself. As previously mentioned, it implies that said user was personally inspected and verified as trustworthy by the site, which is not true. Name change would solve the problem. As for newcomers/vaders donating and scamming, that's a much harder problem to solve, as simply being a donator will convince most new users.

This really makes the most sense. Right now ranks are the most difficult things to obtain and the ultimate symbols of trust and community leadership (other than the donor rank), and the SVU rank is just too simple/easy/useless to obtain. All of this trust being put into scammers by newcomers when they see that rank can simply be put to rest if it were instead a minirank just like the LoL verified boosters , or Steam verified miniranks. Those aren't held in such high esteem, though they are technically harder to achieve than $5.

 

I agree with the removal of the rank. I check many SVU's vouches and they often have none. So all that's between them and scamming is $25 and a fake phone number? It was a great idea, but in todays online world there's just too many workarounds. Newfag opinion anyway.

I wouldn't call giving $5 and giving real or fake details much verification to suddenly be trusted.

I personally like the system couchsurfing uses. They send a postcard to your address witha code on it. This code is then used to verify yourself on the website.

 

I thought you had to pay with a verified Paypal - was this changed or does it not mean anything if you do?

 

I believe I paid for SVU when my paypal was unverified.

 

Increasing the fee doesn't really have anything to do with verification, so pass.

Increasing the identity doesn't do much. A full name and address is enough. An ID would show the same information.

Just a note - SSN - Social security numbers are not even on the plate for discussion. Only a complete moron would give that out on here.

 

Increasing the fee will never mean any Kind of verification, as it will only filter the small value scams out but you keep an open door for big hits.

SSN is not in a question to many reasons. Main reason is all mature and smart members of sythe will refuse to provide these details, Second reason is people like me are living in some countries where we DO NOT have SSN!

I think Sythe needs to tie up into some 3rd party company or he should think of expanding and hiring more staff, as the potential of Syth.org is much bigger than Sythe is actually extracting from it.

 

More staff won't prevent scams from happening.

 

Looks like there's a consensus to change the name of SVU to something else. Any input from staff on this idea?

 

SSN is a little sketchy to have floating about the internet.

 

I support this because as a newcomer myself, from my perspective it makes the user, like you said, look more trustworthy than they possibly are.

Only problem I can imagine is because people specifically donate for the SVU tag how would this system be implemented, would the people who currently have the SVU tag be refunded and given the chance to purchase another for a higher price like other users?

Now don't get me wrong I support but I can't imagine a way this would be possible.
