CDT, TC, PR with horror maze

The people that gave it another shot after the hacking incident was solved told me they thought the event was great fun.

As SuF said however, not much we can do about people using hacks / mods like minimaps to get an unfair advantage. The maze for the 2nd opening was made so that people with a minimap dont get an unfair advantage by making it so you cant 'see' the correct route just by following the minimap.

 

Regardless, that doesn't explain the issue(s) which resulted in the creation of this thread.

 

Hey BuyAcc. Pointing fingers does nothing but create more drama and public dislike for the development teams. You are not alone in this, as CDT is guilty as well. However, no one in CDT was ever asked to be responsible for this event in terms of being there for openings. The TC was the one who made it possible on the server, but does that make them responsible for its failure to open? No, because you were the one going to get this running on a time schedule after times were discussed in Dev. chat. CDT agreed to organize an event that you & TC were putting together.

As stated previously, special powers are required to start the event, which none of us in the CDT have, rendering us useless when needed to start the event. You said so yourself that you knew a while ago that you wouldn't be able to be online for the second opening. That being said, why didn't you make arrangements prior to the second opening? You ask why no one made arrangements, but why didn't you? You tagged SuF & Mez, but as Mez stated, he didn't even have powers to start the maze. Why wasn't Mez, or anyone else, given powers to start the maze if neither you or SuF could be present at its start again?

Also, CDT may be responsible for in-community development, but that doesn't mean TC & PR don't contribute (example: this event). When you sign up for a task relevant to another team, it doesn't mean you pitch blame to the team whose name will be questioned when things fail.

The issue(s) which resulted in this thread is that we dont have/had anyone available at Australian timezones to run the event. The maze is done, the only thing that was needed was for someone to remove the blockade at the enterance. Internally we pointed fingers at a few people within the teams which live in the USA (which could be online at said time), but for whatever reason they werent online (which I cant answer). Just for the record, the event would run from 3AM till 7AM my time.

 

First you say you dislike people pointing fingers but then you repeatedly point fingers at me personally and TC in general, but alright I guess.

Regarding me not handing powers over to anyone within CDT: Because, as in a previous post was stated, no one in the CDT even wanted to help. When asking they give excuses like "Dont got knowledge of Minecraft", "Dont like Minecraft" or "Ask *someone else* maybe he would like to do it". Turning it around, why didnt anyone offer to help? Why should I look for people to give powers when the thread was open in the CDT forum for weeks. Also (regarding to handing over powers), I am a PR member not a TC member. As previously stated as well, I am just the 'maze maker guy'. Not entirely sure as I didnt play Minecraft before the Pixelmon event but I am somewhat sure that, by giving Mez the Creative mode, he was able to remove blocks (could be wrong in this though). Besides that, Mez wasnt online either anyway (checked when I went to sleep at 2:45AM) so wouldnt have mattered either way.

My example earlier answers your third paragraph well. If someone from CDT makes a suggestion for a Twitter comment (the CDT-member suggested and made the Twitter comment) I as leader of the PR-team am still responsible for whatever happends regarding anything official regarding Sythe to the outward world. If there is any negative feedback after the Tweet has been posted I am end responsible, not the CDT-member suggesting and making it. Similar to how things go in a business.

 

If someone doesn't know how to play minecraft in this day and age, I really don't know what to tell ya. They can manage to play league of legends, play runescape, play csgo, but literally don't know how to play a game that is so simple even a 5 year old could play it? By no means I want to call out someone here, but you literally have to just log in and break 4 blocks. There were 5(though it would have peaked around 8 or 9 people if it were open) people on the server that i 100% guarantee were willing to give assistant on how to play or break the blocks.

Not a single CDT was willing to participate in a community driven event is what you're pretty much telling me. Even sonias apparent brother participated.

This really shows us how bad the CDT, TC, and PR are.

 

Hey man, I assume I arrived into this world a number of years ahead of you. I was already a teenager by the time minecraft came along and it never appealed to me. I see it as a child's game and am not interested in participating in a minecraft event. This is a feeling which is echoed amongst the mature members of the community and parts of the CDT. I appreciate the effort that buyacc put into this project but I feel he should have realised that it was in vein from the start, as there was clearly no real appetite for it (demonstrated by the fact he had to do it). I understand there are a few sythe members who really dig minecraft and I sympathise with you guys, but this was a car crash event, and certainly does not belong in a mainstream raffle.

 

We were willing to participate in the event. I was there on day one; prior to my brother banning everyone and then helping SuF to secure his account and server (I believe thats what the plugin does). Just because I couldn't get over the first gap doesn't mean I wasn't participating. The timezone issue has crept up multiple times as well as apparent developers unable to open the maze or be on at that time to overlook. I don't even like minecraft unfortunately, I still attempted and was willing to attempt again to try and get participation. It's unfortunate that we as development teams attempted to reciprocate the aims of having a gaming server for community members to play as part of an event without thinking about the likely hood of popularity of the gaming server itself, the security at the time, and the timezone/appropriate developers being online to host the gaming server. (or well we did, it just hasn't been approached in the way it was planned).

Bluntly speaking. The question now is whether because of the issues that has surrounded this event, whether we are able to continue this event. It has been a few really bad attempts at trying to collaborate an event in this form to give something different to the community. I hope you're aware that majority of us are accepting of the fact that we have let the community, sponsor and ourselves down as a result. It is clear that a few people would never attempt to try play MC, unless participation was necessary (hence why participation was made necessary). I hope that clears up a few things and the possible redirection of the event itself, for those members who enjoy the event or the minecraft maze etc. Again speaking bluntly so you can understand the current plans of what we're aiming to do and how we should look at changing this. If you want to give your feedback.

 

Okay, I know this is kinda off topic. But what is CDT, TC, and PR?

 

Community development team - interact with the community to see what they want as an event

technical/technology core team - Introducing the Technology Core Team

public relations - spread the word of sythe via outside social media

 

CDT = Community Development Team (focusses on keeping the members on Sythe)
PR = Public Relations (focusses on getting members to Sythe)
TC = Technical Core (focusses on technical stuff which could benefit Sythe.org)

 

Actually, I was only pointing a finger at you. I know full well what I was doing when I made a reply lol. I'm just upset because CDT never gets a break, so yeah, I'll point a finger since that game was already being played.

I don't think it's because we didn't want to help, but rather because we were pressed to release other events, so we were more focused on other things than anything else. Some ppl were there. It's true, we could have offered help, but I personally thought it was already taken care of: it was finished in design, we figured times out, etc. Your example kinda sucks though. Yeah, we took the suggestion for the event, but we weren't responsible for developing the server, its contents, etc. Again, we were responsible for its organization. We all had a part in this because it was a collaboration, which is clear now that its a near-impossible thing to do without stepping on each other's toes.

Interpret how you will, but that's not at all what I'm telling you. We were caught up in putting out events together and we were under the impression that the maze was all figured out. A mistake on our part. Clearly miscommunication and issues between teams is causing issues for everything else, so it's something we all need to work on.

I'll apologize because this is a huge disappointment in my eyes; this was a chance for the teams to work together on something and it blew up in our faces.

 

From the communities point of view we see the teams (cdt/pr/tc) as incompetent due to the lack of communication between eachother and the community as well as their inability to get shit done.

I'm sure the teams are working hard on whatever you guys are doing, but most of the time (sythe rsps, pixelmon server, maze event, losing $1k during jons fundraiser?) we're left in the dark wondering when/what is going to happen.

It's just my opinion but I think that all three teams should be on the same page on the projects they're working on so we, the community, don't get fucked over all the time.

 

Thank god the event is scrapped for the raffle. Now I don't have to play Minecraft anymore.

The current plan (not mine) is to close the event entirely. Are there people who would like to see the event continued?

 

I say cancel it so the creeper minirank becomes a rare mini and holds a big value. People in this thread already suggest we close it, so why not right? I personally deep down want it to continue because its a fun event though and free mini since its such an easy maze.

 

Yeah I agree with Scotty. I've never played it before but I gave it a try. As it is with any new game, I was super confused as to what I was supposed to do. I couldn't get the movement down and I gave up when nobody was offering any tips and pointers. It actually killed morale for me for the whole Halloween event, which makes me sad. I also respect the effort put into it though. Oh well, I'm looking forward to Christmas.

 

So after reviewing the entirety of the situation that has surrounded this event. We will be closing the Minecraft Maze of Horrors event. It has been a bit of disaster. I shan't repeat what everyone knows. It seems it would result in more failures for the community if it is kept open at this point, in regards to timings and openings.

We are really sorry about everything that has transpired from the event. It seemed it would be a good attempt to try create a different event for everyone, unfortunately went down hill since the start.

Clearly you no longer need to participate in this event for the Funrank/Trick or Treat Raffle.

The maze shall be open, so you all can try play it if you will.

The winners on the first day shall still be awarded.

Side note:
The event isn't closing so the creeper minirank can have worth, nor is it remaining open because it easier for minecrafters to play the maze unfortunately.
