[POLL] CDT/PR/TC - Usergroup colours/markups

[S]

Thread in reference: Promotions and Changes

Short summary of change: CDT/PR/TC members now have their own usercolour, minirank, funrank, and usertitle to go alongside their relevant roles.

The above has progressed from an initial minirank, to that of perks that essentially are warranted for staff only.

Most of the reasoning for and against is stated within this thread, and the above news thread. I encourage everyone to read the linked thread, to see the full picture.

Please vote, and state any thoughts/concerns you may have below, alongside any reasoning you deem relevant.

This poll is dumb, just let them keep their circle-jerk colored names.

It doesn't hurt anything and frankly if ur butthurt over a colored name on a dying forum then u need to get a life.

The teams are basically a circle-jerk staff trial where u kiss ass and pretend to be humble for a couple weeks/months until your moderator application gets accepted. If they want recognition for their actions then I say give them it, its blatantly obvious what the teams have become and who is using them as a stepping stone to staff.

I would argue their less a badge of honor and more a badge of shame, certain people truly deserve a colored name but the vast majority do not.

Voted No.

Waste our time 2018.

No, if anything get rid of all of the worthless funranks.

See how you like it then.

I've had my ranks hidden for better part of all my time on Sythe, also while I was staff - ask anyone around here.

I've only got them displayed as I'm helping a friend with his boosting services.

Ranks mean nothing to me, but for those striving to get said ranks (read: staff ranks) - which acts as a motivating tool to stay community involved, this change will have the opposite effect. Not to mention, staff should have a distinct set of perks, for their voluntary position.

I haven't heard a valid "against" argument yet.

The only argument I've heard is "now everyone is gonna get scammed." But I think that makes two critically false assumptions.

1. That people are that stupid and don't know that staff has santa hat and partyhat miniranks and words that state they are staff. Also they live under a Sythe rock and haven't heard of the change.
2. That the user groups are just waiting to scam when they are among the most invested on this site.

Not sure why are people are so butthurt over colors lmao. And it's not free, you have to consistently contribute to be a member of the user groups otherwise you are demoted, which we saw many were. Is that effort so much less than a staff member that they can't be awarded a hex color lmao compared to free name changes, funranks in perpetuity, chances at exclusive funranks, UI's, etc etc that staff get.

This is a retarded vote imo, but w/e.

People are going to get scammed regardless.

This won't change anything.

I'm not butthurt. I have no involvement in anything on this forum anymore. I'm not a staff member, I'm not a community member - I'm just looking at this objectively, from the sole standpoint that the change makes no logical sense, if the large part of users disagree with it.

Then again, I may be wrong, which I'm happy to admit if proven so.

What's your argument against? All you keep saying is that everyone is against. I've seen a few, but it mostly seems like you are lol. And so far the vote seems to contradict your supposed obvious majority being against.

Hence my point and the fact that it's unlikely that these people specifically will out of anyone comparatively.

It's entirely harmless and it's a fun little perk for people who belong to these teams. For what it's worth, this was not a snap-decision by us. Since day 1 of this site, colored names have belonged to staff only. I know there are people who will be put off by the change but we will all get through this together, don't worry guys

I'll just copy what I posted on the news thread.

1. I just don't see a logical reason to have user colours for said usergroups, when they already have a identifying fun-rank.

2. In terms of perks that set staff aside from other users, and as a voluntary role, I, and I'm sure many others would agree that having coloured ranks should be staff only.

3. People strive to get staff (albeit it's slightly different these days), and having the notion that you'll receive perks that are relevant to your achievement only (read: staff as a whole), that aren't handed out willy-nilly, acts as a sense of motivation to attain said position. Having half the forum poses said ranks, basically devalues the concept of them, and even more so, looks ridiculous in terms of aesthetic.

There are more reasons, which others have posted on the news thread. As I said before, I gain nothing from this change being removed/kept. If people vote in favour for it, so be it. Doesn't affect me at all.

Deleted that. I based my consensus on what the news thread direction was. If that's not the case anymore, then that's fine.

"More" reasons is a stretch for sure, I didn't even see the ones you listed on there.

The logical reason is they're a Sythe supported group and as a group you should stand out with a common signature. What better way to stand out and generate awareness than a bright difference in profile. Hopefully this will get people to be more inclined to get involved and have fun.

Staff get many more perks worth pursuing than any of the groups could hope for. They get a funrank that actually signifies trust forever and the opportunity to earn other funranks which the rest of us can't even try for. Everything us user-groups have as perks is removed as soon as we no longer have time to participate. Plus they get free name changes and other perks as well. I'd say as far as Sythe rewards go, staff still get the lion's share by a large margin. Plenty to keep people "striving."

Abstaining from this vote because I'm mixed. If the colors were different than what they are I probably wouldn't care but the colors are soooo confusing. I swear every few months I come back to this forum a mod color is now used for a team color and vice versa. Wasn't the color Andy has recently used for a mod color? Should have at least been consistent with the colors. Globals were red. Sectionals (used to) be another color of red. It was so simple. Now it's fairyland and I feel like the colors are going to change every month. I don't like where this is going because I feel like soon we will have more colored titles for "sponsors", it's starting to feel too much like Powerbot with all of the colors. With that being said, I realize my hate of fairy colors might be a unique opinion.

Voting no. Don't think it's as big of a deal as everyone's making it out to be. Keep in mind that these people are donating a lot of their time to helping manage the site. Anyone who associates a colored name with staff has been here long enough to know the difference between staff and other user groups.

The opposition seems to be coming exclusively from ex-mods who have that strange "I earned it so you should have to too" complex. It's not going to hurt anyone.

Edit: misread poll-- voting no. I also don't think that this is a good way to settle he debate.

2018... Does it affect you? No? Then you better get involved!

I'd like to point out that not a single person besides @SellerMan has commented to support a yes vote.

Also, that as soon as I called you out on having multiple worthless/confusing fun ranks. You hid all of them.

I'd be willing to have the community teams names reverted if all excessive funranks were as well.

But that's not happening anytime soon.

The promotion thread is referenced repeatedly by Sellerman as if there's an uproar against this change when it's really just him and Wonderland who complained, I think there were more people for than against as far as posts about it on the thread.

I don't really see the need for colored names, but I suppose you can more than easily flip the argument around and claim 'well why shouldn't we have colored names?'. For the purposes of the poll, I am voting 'yes', but can see arguments for both sides.

All I am going to say, is that it seems like the strongest advocates for these colored names seem to be the vocal (and at times, emotional) minority who are receiving the perks. On the flip side, it seems as the majority who 'oppose' the viewpoint are those who used to be most active in the past. I won't touch on the perks = trust argument as that argument seems to have gone in circles in the news thread and above in this thread. These positions DO have a certain amount of implied trust, and this 'power' tends to either attract dishonest members, or 'corrupt' those who hold it. Just look back to DD, I had to step in as CDT leader for the remainder of his term as he had gotten banned for shady behaviors. Paper Shark just recently vanished while he was holding prize money for a CDT event. I would try and include more examples as well, but the stickies haven't been updated in a great deal of time and these were the only examples that I could remember off of the top of my head.

We've already "been there done that" with teams that have ranks / icons / lounges / additional perks in attempts to foster activity and interest in said teams, only to fall short and scrap the teams entirely (I'm looking at you OGV/UE/CA/ CDT before it was 'revived' by Jack / roary). First we gave the CDT miniranks to have them stand out and be unique among the community. Then someone added a fun-rank to the 'CDT-Leader' position. Following this change we incorporated fun-ranks for ALL team members. Throughout all of these changes I would argue that member turnover increased, while interest, activity and community involvement in all that these teams do has declined. Why would adding another large, previously staff-identifying perk be any different? The usergroup colors on Discord were created so these said groups could have private areas to chat with eachother after migrating from Skype group chats. What purpose do colored names on the site serve? Will we soon be adding colors for DNT / TWC / Verifier usergroups as well?

We should encourage community members joining these teams out of their own free well, and passion to improve / benefit the community, not for a minirank / fun-rank / colored name.

Voted yes as the aesthetics of it didn’t really feel right to me, however looking back that’s not really a valid reason. We need these teams to succeed for the betterment of the site, if a coloured usergroup gives them that motivation then so be it. Anything that creates a further distinction between the regular member and those in positions of authority is bound to cause a backlash, it’ll blow over. I guess some people are talking out of jealousy but that’s not the vibe I’m getting from super.
