What's the worst crime?

Oh, come on guys. I haven't had time to reply to everyone's ideas, but I still am reading, and some posts that caught my eye are those that are saying that this thread is pointless. If you haven't noticed, nearly ALL of the threads in the SFA section are, in the end, opinionated. So, they're pointless too?

The SFA threads all, at the end of the day, call for opinion. If they were all based on factual information, such as a topic like "Is the number zero even?", there'd be no debate - just proof for a fact. Anyone debating against that would be debating against a truth.

Now, there's a difference between giving your opinion, and giving your opinion with reasoning. Mage3158, the quote you gave is simply stating for no one to give their blind opinion - an opinion based on emotions. However, if you read my original post, I asked numerous times to give justification/reasoning with your posts. It's not just a simple opinion. It's a view - one that can be corroborated (and even changed, if you're against said view) through logical argumentation. Here is a portion of my original post:

Now, can logical argumentation be used to change someone's viewpoint on such a topic? Yes, of course it can. Example: Jimmy says murder is the worst crime because the person is dead afterwards. However, Carla debates that rape is the worst crime on the basis of unhappiness. She can easily make a logical argument by saying that if murder ceases pain, and if pain causes unhappiness within an individual, then murder will cease unhappiness within said individual. Based on such logic, she would claim that rape is worse, because if rape exacerbates pain, and pain causes unhappiness within an individual, then rape exacerbates unhappiness within said individual. In the end, Carla does give an opinion on a rather subjective question, but uses reasoning to do so.

 

I didn't say purely subjective, I said subjective. Saying "my cat is probably the best cat ever" is purely subjective because everyone will say that about their own cat if they love it enough. Asking which crime is the worst is a subjective question because everyone is influenced by different crimes at different levels of intensity and therefore there is no concrete answer. However, you can still support your answer with facts, statistics, and short/long-term effects on humans, animals, and the Earth.

The difference is the usability of the answers when given. Obviously, we can't use what we debate here for the good of humanity because we don't have the means beyond the intellectual conversation. But questions like "the worst crime" are very important in changing and enhancing safety and wellbeing for humanity when discussed among those who have the power to change governments or establish foundations, etc.

Therefore, it's not a useless topic, there's intrigue and significance in the debate.

 

Murdering/molesting children is the most horrible crime to me. They are vulnerable children who cant defend themselves and just began to experience life. I can never feel bad for a child murderer or molester.

 

I have to go for child abuse/rape. If that is done to you, you literally don't need your life anymore.

 

Murder, because it does not only kill someone but also harms people around the victim.

IMO. Rape, murder, and pedophilia are the worsts crimes that one could ever do. The law is so fucked up, now people could get away with 5 years for killing a perfectly innocent person. The law needs to be changed to enforce harsher punishments for these crimes, or else the rates will just keep rising and rising like they are now.

 

Rape is the worst crime... Once you kill somebody he is dead, no emotions, no pain - Rape has really bad effects in the long run..

I'm kind of leaning towards rape/molestation, as like it was said, it's a life long scar you must live with. No matter how many times you are told it wasn't your fault, it still doesn't make the incident go away.

 

Well with me being a parent i think the worst crime is crimes that have to do with children. Abuse/molestation/abduction. Once you have a kid your whole perspective on the world changes and makes you almost paranoid. If your ask me child molesters should not be put in jail they should just be shot behind the building and save the tax payers money.

 

Rape.

 

I would say terrorism because look at how many people died in 9/11 Taking that many lifes is one of the biggest crimes one can commit

Even with my dad incarcerated I still think pedophiles are the worst. They get shit on in prison.

I do think rape is worse then murder. depending on situation. The worst crime mehh not sure about that one.

 

I'm pretty sure Genocide is worse than murder or rape.

 

I would say Mass-Murder simply because it kills more than one person , very sad their is people who commit crimes

Although you could certainly class it as murder, terrorism is to me the worst crime one can commit. It often entails mass murder, and for a large proportion of the time it happens due to nothing more than a disagreement in beliefs. But if you would put this under the category of 'murder' then yes murder is in my opinion the worst crime

Also, rape is indeed a disgusting and horrifying crime, however one can recover from this, even if it takes many years. No one can recover from being murdered therefore in my opinion murder is worse
