What fallacious logic. If men who lived hundreds of years ago in the dark ages claimed publicly to believe in god (if they denied his existence, they certainly would have been killed), this does not make his existence probable. Appealing to the former popularity of religion among scientists (notice how your list consists mostly of people who lived several hundred years ago) is not reasonable grounds for its acceptance.

I certainly can, and will if their beliefs are indeed ignorant.

Einstein did not believe in any sort of theistic religion; religion in an Einsteinian sense means acknowledging the beauty of nature and the cosmos in which we dwell. He was not a believer in a theistic god by any stretch of the imagination.

"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it."
    -Einstein

God isn't real just because it can't be disproven.

Eh...don't be so quick to end this.
I'm atheist but in defense for religion, atleast based on your argument. Before Newton gravity was just a random thing that wasn't explained and just...was. So for now god is unexplained and a random thing but something around his type of explained force could be discovered.

Just because noone went against your argument doesn't mean you post it again >.< but alright Challenge Accepted.
Actually there are senses that the human body has that can express the effect of gravity. They are Tactition (sense of pressure), Equilibrioception (perception of balance and shift in such), Proprioception (the bodies awareness of itself and its positioning.). The first two are direct towards the notion of gravity while proprioception is commonly a second rate sense in this matter.

So when you say we have faith every day, without even realizing it your body is being affected by gravity and these senses i have stated are the reason your body adjusts to, reacts to, and acknowledges gravity.

This isn't as much faith as it's a lesser form of this type of feeling, or hope. But its not due to some form of unknown force that we have to just have to assume may or may not happen. We hope these things won't happen is because they shouldn't. When you sit down in a chair, that chair is "supposed" to hold you up and not let you fall. So if this is the expected result then obviously anything opposite of that would be opposite of what we would want to happen. Faith is an entirely different matter.

The fact that these are called miracles aren't anything to go by. He did things that people couldn't explain, doesn't mean it was a "miracle". Illusionists, scientists, and politicians do many things that alot of people can't explain yet they're not miracles.

Take all of those miracles and lets play the phone game with them and have them pass from person to person to person for such a large amount of time that the actual act itself has skewed so far past the original that we have to call in a miracle because noone can even remember how the first one was conducted.

Now let's take the entire bible and have it changed over 12 times to fit the agenda of kings, the church, and all other forms of warlords and those who wish to control people through the "will of god".

There is millions of atheists out in the world who claim to believe in nothing.
Claim to? Last time atheists weren't hidden christians or any form of a hidden believers. I can easily say the same for christians who only believe to get into heaven if it does exist, they're nothing but hypocrites to their own cause and pathetic.

This situation works either way, if you don't believe and it is real then hey, you get to live forever one way or another (its even a bonus if your a masochist), and if not then hey you were right. We have nothing to lose because we are born with nothing.

    Exactly.

The senses. Well this is kind of obvious. Oxygen is a better example than gravity. Yes, everyone has faith in something. You cannot deny it. You can try and explain faith through a different feeling...like hope. But it is really faith that is there.

About the afterlife. You have everthing to lose if you think nothing is going to happen after and then you soon realize that you are going to be paying the punishment for your sins in the depths of hell for all eternity. Do you know how long eternity is? There is no such thing as TIME in eternity. It is FOREVER. For me on the other hand. I either am on my way to heaven or if your statements are correct than nothing will happen after I die. No biggie.

I am christian because I confessed my sins and repented to Jesus. Not because I want to go to heaven when I die (It is only a bonus for the example I give on earth).

A lot of people tend to be misslead by a whole bunch of BS in todays world. There are many athiests because there are so many hypocrites today. They do not know how to defend their faith because they have none to defend.
In fact...they always would rather start arguments about why your wrong and I'm right. It is something that has driven christianity into the dirt. And it makes me very upset. Because more and more people turn away from it.

    That is all :)

Gravity is demonstrable using the scientific method. We don't have faith (belief in the absence of evidence) in gravity; we know that it's there because there is an enormous amount of evidence that it.

Chairs are made by engineers who design them so that they will not fall; I am confident that my chair will support me because I've observed that it has supported me countless times before.

Faith is belief in the absence of evidence.

There is not enough evidence to claim that he did any sort of miracles, let alone was a representative of a god whose existence has yet to be proven; the earliest accounts of such things happening are ~40 years after his supposed death.

Could you please provide a source for that quote? It contradicts numerous other things said by Einstein, and seems to be a very poor restating of Pascal's Wager.

I have faith that oxygen exists? No, I know that oxygen exists because it has been demonstrated to exist by chemists.

    http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/pascal-wager/#5

    Yes, I cannot defend a faith that I don't have (?).

Please, answer this : question for me: what evidence is there that any supernatural beings exist, and if there isn't any, why should one believe in their existence at all?

You can't change your example just because it was proven wrong. Also oxygen is an even worse example because at a molecular level it can be seen and smelled and possibly tasted (not completely sure).

The reason I used hope is because faith is a much stronger emotion and relies more on believing something with little to no evidence while hope is more just an everyday thought process.

Well unfortunatly, your only going by what today's bible said. The original could have been completely different and the things you could be sent to hell for could really get you into heaven. Hell even in today's bible he still seems like a pathetic being who has no medium but i digress.

There is such a thing as time as forever and eternity are forms of time and we still perceive actions and moments as time. While the form of time we have commonly been taught to use (days, months, years) won't have much use, we still will keep some form of perception of time.

Also, by the religions standards, you would be sent to hell because you did something in your life. Confession can help but won't relieve you, you can only do it once before you do or else the confession will be meaningless.

Why don't Christians say repented to god or just replace Jesus's name with god because technically that's who he was (in the bible) to me he's a delusional man who just got a cult following. Either way, there are many atheists today because more and more people are realizing the falsehood of religion and how it's promises are based solely on their trust and nothing more.

So let me ask you, if a guy you didn't know asked you for all of your money and belongings and said he would give you them all back + $2,000,000 in 1 week. Would you trust him? Because you have to put more trust in a religion than into that man, even though the outcomes are just as unknown. Although knowing the probability of man, the guy would probably rip you off and knowing god he'd probably kill you, or your whole family and cattle and belongings to prove a point.

I don't have time to watch an hour long video by Lee Strobel. Perhaps you could present his arguments in a form which can be accessed more easily? I do have a few notes on near death experiences, however. Firstly, it must be stated that the human brain is quite accepting of delusions, especially when nearing death. I'd also like to point out that when a Hindu is dying, they see Vishnu, when a Christian is dying, they see Jesus, etc. What people see when nearing death is contingent on what they believe they will see; this demonstrates that there is no supernatural force behind it.

By not accepting the answer "Science proves otherwise" you are proving yourself to be ignorant, and a weak person that can't face the truth.

There are many hypocrites in this world including your God (look up contradictions of the old/new testament). Just putting this out there.

I do not understand what you're trying to say in the second paragraph. Are you saying that it is best to be prepared, just incase there is hell? Well, what if I say you have to give me all your money or else you'll go to hell after you die? I mean, it's no biggie. Either a) nothing happens or b) you go to heaven. Do you understand where I'm coming from? There is no merit in believing a work of fiction.

I can't answer on behalf of all Atheists, but I generally just let other religions (The only one I've personally been associated with Christianity) be unless they begin to talk to me about there religion. Most of the time the Christians start the debate with me, or they attempt to bring "convince" me that God is real and I just combat them with what I know. I don't have a problem with them (especially seeing I used to be one) and don't think they're idiots for following there religion at all.

Again, answering on my own experiences, when I decided that I didn't believe in Christianity and couldn't see much proof behind it's God many of my friends told me to just give it a go, because I've got nothing to lose and I'll get to go to Heaven. My issue being, The Christian Bible says I need faith to come into The Kingdom of God. I can't pretend to have that faith, It's something I actually need to have to be a Christian.

Ugh. I am shrugging at all of you above that are trying to cite Pascal's Wager as justification for the belief in God...

    Pascal's Wager is fallacious
    1. You don't choose your religion; your belief in a religion is a result of accident of the circumstance of your birth

    2. There are hundreds (thousands?) of religions; no matter which one you choose, you are losing out on the others

Worst video I have ever seen. It's not even amusing how logically flawed this religion spewing crap is.

There was no religions in the beginning. That is why christianity is not considered a religion. It is another word for Disciple of Christ.

Other religions were created by people who have died in the past. Christianity is based on an almighty God.

Catholics still believe in God. But they use priests as their "messengers" because people do not believe that God will hear them. So they need a priest to do it for them.

I can agree with atheists on one thing. That the world is very corrupt because of all of these false religions created by man. With all due respect.

Atheists always fall back on their logic when presented with the argument that God exists. Their logic which they got from previous atheists...this does not make any sense to me because you say the exact same thing about the bible.

A quick note on the facts. The bible has the most ancient manuscripts discovered in the shortest time frame compared to all of the other writings.

Take a look at this article and tell me that this is not solid proof that the bible is a REAL book http://debate.org.uk/topics/history/bib-qur/bibmanu.htm. I'll be expecting some statements like "That does not prove that God is real!" On the contrary. Jesus died and rose again. That is recorded in the bible. No one can die a death like Jesus and raise themselves from the grave like he did. Only God can cheat death. There is your proof that God exists. Solid evidence that the bible, word for word, was written like a history book. Except this history book holds the truth. The words of God.

Unless you have some strange definition of religion that is alien to all English speakers, Christianity is a religion.
    ???

Don't make claims that you can't back up with evidence.

    Yes, it is.

It would be patronizing to even reply to this most ridiculous point.

Okay, but it certainly isn't the oldest religious text (the Egyptian Book of the Dead comes to mind), nor the newest (the Book of Mormon comes to mind), nor does it contain any sort of scientific truth or moral teaching that could not be discerned by a nonbeliever. Even if I suppose what you say is true, I don't see why it matters, since none of these writings are the originals, and the best that all of these manuscripts can prove is that there existed earlier versions of the tales, that is, the large amount of manuscripts doesn't prove any of the dogmas taught in them as true.

Look, I'll grant you that the New Testament was all written prior to 100 CE (though a few portions were undoubtedly added later). This does not prove that a Jewish preacher named Jesus existed, or was born of a virgin, or rose from the dead, or was a god. A literary account existing does not prove that the events recorded in it represent actual history.
