Should Sperm Donation be illegal?

Hey everyone I really wanted to find everyone's opinions on if Sperm Donating should be illegal?

This question/argument was brought up in my Biology 101 class and caused a huge debate so... yeah everyone post there thoughts below.

I'm personally glad that it is legal to help if one man cannot produce enough sperm. But as my argument in class some people think it's "wrong" or "disgusting". I personally do not understand how if it's that person's choice. But if some agree w/ it being grose or it being just fine post

It's just moral arguements against it... Like -

It won't ever be illegal imo.

 

There is no real reason against it besides people's opinions, so I don't see why it should be illegal.

 

I don't understand why someone would want this to be illegal? no harm to anyone by donating sperm, in fact you're helping someone.

 

Gross and Disgusting are no reasons to ban something. Afterbirth is disgusting, but that's no reason to ban babies (newborn babies are actually pretty disgusting too).

 

Why should it be illegal? It's their choice, not harming anyone.

 

Exactly my point. I've also had those "people that think they know everything" come and tell me that if it can't be done right then it shouldn't be done at all... I personally think that was the dumbest comment to ever say... l0lz

 

The way I see it, it's not like it's putting a kid up for abortion, you are simply providing one half of the recipe to make the cake (bad analogy I know). At the end of the day, one of the main purpose of us humans is to keep the human race going, with that said, if a man can't do that because something is wrong down there, then this is a pretty good alternative.

 

It's not the government's sperm. They need to mind their own business.

 

Sperm donation is a good thing, especially in cases in which a couple id unable to conceive a child of their own.

 

It seems as if people who think it should be illegal don't consider the infertile male in a marriage where the two both desire children. If sperm donation were illegal, they wouldn't be able to have a child... without the wife having sex with another man, of course.

 

Just because people think something is wrong or disgusting does not mean it should be illegal. Picking your nose is disgusting but should that be illegal?

I should have any right to whomp on it and sell the splooge all I want.
I dont see how its harmful in any way, and in some ways its actually helpful. So no it shouldnt be illegal.

 

Here's another person's complaint: "The economy is already over populated why give it the ability to produce more, it can only cause the Earth to collapse even faster."

 

Sperm donation is good, and will never become illegal.

 

By this logic the amount of sex one has should be regulated.

There's plenty of it sitting in my trash can. Who knew? What a wacky world.

 

No, it should remain legal.

If I want to barter the fruits of my labour, I should have the right to do so. If I want to sell a kidney, if I want to sell my hair, or if I want to sell my sperm. So long as I don't violate the rights of others, which, in all cases I do not, then It should be legal.
