Oh okay, well thanks for looking out for me I guess. I try to keep it controlled (limiting it to 1 a day) though. I'm pretty certain only massive gravedigging/flooding in any forum warrants infractions/further disciplinary action. I just get tired of seeing the same old "rate the blah blah blah above you" or "what is the best word to describe the above poster" threads, so I try to mix things up a bit.

A bit disappointed in the whole Grave situation. I'm getting the feeling that the rules are being purposely applied in a very uneven fashion with absolutely no explanation.
Something I want to leave here regarding that:
Accountability in a just system works in two directions:
First of all a person is accountable for their actions. If a member scammed, they scammed and should be punished for it. This is taken for granted.
Second, the system is accountable for its decisions, and to keep its trustworthiness it has to explain its actions - for example, just about every court case in US history has at the very least said that X person violated Y statute while doing Z for every charge (with fancy charts too)- and often much more. What I often see on Sythe is simply Denied - and even if I've done it myself looking back I don't like it - or We interpret this rule in a way that says you're wrong and you should be banned, but not stating how the rule is to be interpreted. While Sythe isn't the US Court system, some similar values should be held.

While I'm not trying to sound like x339, I will say that in cases that deal with important people or are muddy in general transparency is a must.

Staff tend to take the easy way out rather than explain their rationale and get called out on straw-men, or loose-ends. Easier to just leave the decision in the staff lounge and crack down on all discussion. I may be over exaggerating a bit, but all things considered, not a good way to run things. It leads to a lot of Finn-esque situations.

 

1. The definition of personal information is a bit confusing in this case. According to the thesaurus, the word personal is heavily connected with privacy - in fact the antonym of it is the word public. R2P's information is listed as public and he was fully aware of it, therefore, in a particular sense, nulling its personality

I'm sure a discussion in the SL involving these points has already happened - or at the very least the second one - but there hasn't been any explanation for the verdict. I think the best way to clear this situation up is to simply post the reasoning behind the verdict. I don't see how it could be so deeply involved in stuff that should be kept to SL that it can't be released

Ok, that's really all I was looking for. You showed you have reasonable cause to believe Grave did it with the intent to destroy Will's privacy, and that seems reasonable to me and it clears up the whole situation.
If this was posted on the dispute thread I wouldn't have posted anything in the first place

superman is a great mod, quick replies, fast action, I haven't asked other mods too many questions, but if you are all as dedicated as superman then the other mods also do a great job

 

Having a phone number listed in a phone book is public information and there would be no invasion of privacy by posting it on the forums however if you were to link the phone number and name to a said user here who has not already made it public then that would be an invasion of privacy. In Will's case he made the link between his online name and real life name public and therefore no invasion of privacy ever existed. However his intent is enough to warrant the ban + the IRS thing(what is it with all the IRS file threats).

 

The rule is an attempt to allow people to keep their real life lives separate from their online lives. It doesn't matter if you can find it or if its public. What matters is that we don't want it on our forums. We want our members to be able to have private real lives in this age of little privacy. Now everyone drop it. This isn't the place for this discussion.

 

Great work Dialatic, been really helpful solving a particular ban for me, thanks and stay active, you are doing great !
