Can you cause your own death?

My great grandma just passed away. For the past 5 years she has been saying that she doesn't want to turn 90. About a week ago she had a stroke and ended up dying a few days later. The weird part is that she died 2 hours before her 90th birthday.

Do you believe the human mind, if thought about hard enough can make things like this happen?

This could also turn into people getting sick because they think they are sick, or thoughts having mass and affecting the world around us.

The mind chooses to believe what it wants believe. I've heard of things like this happening. This is similar to my great aunt dying. I have a next door neighbor who is 99 years old, 100 years old this chirstmas day. Her husband was in WWII and part of the storming of Normandy Beach, her great grandfather was also a Confederate general in the Civil War (off topic I know, just thought it was interesting. She could of had a stroke due to stress, thats what happened with my grandma she's still alive though. Either way, sorry she died, some people just get tired of living.

I don't think it's possible to cause your own death.

(Unless your experiencing extreme trauma. As in free falling 20,000 ft from a plane and finding out our parachute doesn't work, then 100ft from the earth your body shuts down to save you from feeling the pain.)

It was simply your grandmothers time to go, i'm sure she was worried about what laid ahead in the future for her, but worrying isn't what killed her.

People have feared and paniced in the past, I'm sure everyone has, and it's been that way forever. If we all died because we've been scared that somthing would happen, then there wouldn't be any of us alive on the earth right now.

Hm... Well IMO I believe that it COULD Happen. I mean some young healthy person I highly doubt it, But with older/age I believe it can.

An example is something you see sometimes is, Love, 2 old age people, 1 dyes of a heart attack or natural causes and quite soon the other one pass's.

But.. Idk, I mean in some cases in old ages, I believe its possible cause if they just give up, Are sick yea possibly.

IDK LUL Its kinda wierd but hopefully you get my thoughts.

I'm a firm believer that if you lose the will to live, your life slowly slips from your hands.
But I also believe in the statement: "What you fear, you create", so I'm basically contradicting my own beliefs.
With that being said though, I'm definitely not ruling out the possibility of this being a mere, yet disturbing coincidence.

The mind is a very powerful thing. I believe that negative thoughts can play a part on death but they can't cause death cause then all the suicidal people would just die from natural causes.

One could also just loose the will to live, if one were to just not want to live any longer without committing suicide, his/her life span would be considerably shorter then that of one who did want to live.

But there would probably be alot of other factors in that as well, including smoking, drugs / alchohol, and dependency issues related to stress.

This is what I'm leaning to. It seems to just be very odd timing.

Can you cause your own death?

The brain emits different frequencies which can alter the body so maybe.

Just a coincidence I suppose, I don't believe that people could do that, by that theory, you could live longer. However, I thinki it was Einstein said if you want something so badly, and keep desiring it, you'll eventually get it.

Can you cause your own death?

Not necessarily. It is just being asked if you could CAUSE your own death, meaning that you could go through a thought process and die. This does not mean that never think that you want to die and live longer. I see where you are going but the body has its natural limitations, the question is can it veer off the chosen path and reset the boundaries.

As for my opinion, I do not BELIEVE (I am not for certain) that it can happen by nature. Your thoughts are only one part of your brain. Your brain functions in many ways at the same time, coordinating your body's efforts to help you live. This is the reason you can walk, talk, breathe, blink, and so on at the same time. So, if you think that you want to die, your thoughts are processing that but the other part of the brain is still doing its function. The part of the brain that handles routine behavior (heart beat, breathing pattern, and blinking) does that same process, i.e. sends the same signal, over and over to maintain your health. The body is built to survive, and it will do so until it cannot anymore.

But, there haven been connections with personal grievances to death. "Broken Heart Syndrome" is a condition where, after a major personal tragedy (loved one dying or other devastating event), causes a person to fall into deep depression. Said person's body would start to shut down, specifically their heart. This is not by choice but could be much the same idea as causing your own death.

Your great grandmother's death was most likely a VERY timely coincidence, but there is no study saying that it cannot be done (most likely since it causes death). So, is it possible? Perhaps. But, until proven otherwise, I believe that this was a very rare coincidence.

Can you cause your own death?

Define "Cause your own death". Obviously someone could pull the trigger at their head. But to sit there and think "i want to die" won't kill you. There has to be SOMETHING that caused it. If your grandma WANTED to die before 90 then maybe she just was lucky to die before 90. (No offense, i'm seeing it through her POV). Tell us what the autopsy report was.

Can you cause your own death?

Like most here have said, it's only a coincidence.

The plane of mental rarely passes into that of physical. Considering this, such a disruption on a level as that of death would be, as far as anyone knows, impossible.

It's kind of like making someone die with your mind.

    She had a stroke.

But your brain is linked to your own body so it would seem to be more likely to affect it. But who knows what we will find out in 50 years about the human mind.

You can't control your organs(vital), so you cannot cause your own death.

Everyone has their own time that they can live for, but there are certain variables that can affect that time length be it to make it longer or shorter.

I don't think that having thoughts like that would actually cause this, I just think it's coincidental that she had the determination not to live to 90 and that she actually didn't.
