[APPROVED] OMM Rank Update

It's probably impossible to obtain as there's still applications that haven't been voted on since 2019 and we are 4 months (almost 5) into 2020, who's fault is it that these applications haven't been voted on?

My source says they've been voted on in omm lounge but Video hasn't moved them to staff lounge despite being tagged tons of times and people asking why they haven't been moved.

Which OMM are you talking about where you say their PMs lead to users being scammed? They've gotten OMM for a reason one bad PM doesn't make someone incapable, I assume you are talking about me, Astro and Burnley though as I don't know of anyone else who got demoted.

Can't agree that I lead to user getting scammed or Astro as I put my discord id in the sythe pm and everyone else's discord tag including mine and Astro put his bitcoin address in his pm along with a picture of the chat, can agree with you on Burnley's PM being terrible as he didn't even know discord was case sensitive.


Also it's the Head Middleman's job to make sure that people who are extremely inactive get their rank removed, I believe the Head Middleman is Video? Maybe if he did his job he could of prevented this Burnley or burnley Scammer 100% [Don't archive]

 

I think you should keep OMM rank for ex staff who are highly trusted and staff. Usually only staff are able to Middleman trades and it works in most places. Also if you remove the OMM rank , there would be a bunch of scams. I think its better to leave it

 

Not sure how to revamp it, but there is no point in keeping it as it is. Maybe public omm elections or something like that (where only long-standing members are allowed to vote)

 

Back in the day it was huge challenge to get OMM rank, over the years it became even harder because demand for MMing services decreased. IMO it should be left as it is, no point of making it easier to get OMM ranks if OMM services arent that popular anymore, no point of removing it because demand still exists and if it'll increase the MMs services will naturally become more popular due to higher demand and eventually new people will meet requirements for OMM apps.

 

How about we give OMM to people who are actually trusted and ACTIVE for a change without just declining every application based on personal reasons. @Jacky is a great candidate.

 

The main issue I see is how recently there have been 0 additions to the rank, and only people being removed from OMM. For OMM to be taken seriously it would need a complete revamp, while I understand the current OMM's worked hard for their rank and probably did deserve it, you are lying to yourself if you don't think OMM needs and update. The lines are all blurred and handeled differentially depending on the case. For a rank as an Offical MiddleMan on a site where thousands of dollars trade hands each day, how are we so leinient with standards. (Ex. It's ok to send a subpar pm as long as no one got scammed? If woeee didn't get scammed Astro's pm would have just been brushed aside even tho it was way below the standard.)

Without taking the time to completely revamp the rank making sure strict guidelines are followed and there is an activity requirement. If we don't take the time to make these changes and enforce them, instead of wasting time tryna patch together the Titanic hop on the raft move on and remove the rank.

The staff needs to look at it like this.. How many people actually use OMM's? How many OMM's are actually available to willingly help people? (I know I have convo's of myself asking them and never getting a reply or availability) How many OMM's are active on the Discord other than promoting their own websites / services / whatever?

The rank should be removed IMO.

You have way more trusted people, that if anything, deserve the rank more than the official ones we already have like @QBD, @Techie and @Assassin that are pretty much always active but have been overlooked for whatever reason. What you should do is take their applications and consider who you'd want to give the "Highly Trusted" rank to and use that instead. That way, it doesn't fall on the website to pony up the money for "OMM SQ's" and it gives recognition to those people who actually deserve it.

 

Site does nothing for this anyways so even though in an official capacity they are site recognized middlemen, nothing will be done if they scam, they are just another user with a fun rank saying they MM

 

Even better reason to remove the rank all together.

 

when I joined Sythe OMMS were key to use, since I joined and learned how to trade OMMS have always been a thing , no point to remove something so dear to the site.

Revamp the entire system.

• Add a guranteed scam pay-back when dealing with an OMM
• If you use any OMM x times, you get one free OMM from any OMM.
• Provide other incentivizations to use OMMs. Lottery system, etc.
• Remove all unofficial MMs
• Add a lower-tier OMM that is on an application-basis. Utilized for smaller trades. For example, <$500
• Add a standard tier OMM that functions as-is. Handles medium trades <$1.5k
• Add a top-tier OMM that handles high amounts. ID verification required.

Just spit-balling, but I had these conversations with upper-staff years back and the OMM on Sythe in its current form is basically obsolete. Implementing a system like this = more work, but could ideally lower scam rates and provide a reason to utilize an OMM again.

Remove or revamp. People sit on it for years charging fees and not even doing much with it. People are getting scammed even with the glorified OMM rank. There's people that could be OMM for free and get the job done just fine.

Also agree with this. There are some OMMs that earned it but also people fit to be an OMM and take over positions that aren't being utilized. If we keep OMMs around, that is.

 

I voted for removal, but revamp would be ideal if it's implemented in a way that makes sense. As of now it's not hard to get OMM rank; it's impossible. I like @tMoon's suggestion of pay back. It'll hold OMM accountable and acts as a reminder as to what rank they're sitting on. I doubt many people would half ass PMs when their own money's at stake.

Trust is subjective.

The notion that current or ex-staff are more reliable or trusted than ALL regular members is silly.

Also, how do you know a "bunch of scams" would eventuate from an already barely-utilised system? If anything, it speaks to that the rate of scams taking place have no correlation or causation with OMM's being used, simply because the rate/frequency of OMM's being used is negligible.

 

Big Rich was also never going to allow scanners to be active on Sythe or allow members to apply for staff.

The OMM system is broken and someone on staff (HMM whoever that is) should either take the initative to fix it, or recognize it's deadish, and either cut it or leave it as is.

There are viable options, but if we're going to go the whole laisze faire route, then recognize the market has decided the OMM is useless and let it die.

If we're not, then make the OMM worth using. A pot with stable coins, an HMM that exercises some authority over OMM i.e. rate control, and unless aspects have changed, there have always been a copious amount of OMMs.

I'm not particulary for any of these suggestions and if someone likes them, feel free to take them and run with them as I won't be.

Have "trusted middleman". "official middleman" sounds too close to the site & if I got scammed by one I'd be more pissed !

i totally agree the OMM rank should be revamped; the current process is very outdated & i think it deters people from applying because it's unnecessarily tedious.

 

I’ve never found it useful, the few times I tried to contact one they were inactive. Might as well just used a trusted middleman and let people pick for themselves.
