Take a look at the MM section. How many OMMs actually offer their services?

 

I agree that activity requirements should be stricter. There’s a handful of OMMs that haven’t even bumped their threads in months.

Also, no accepted apps since 2017 and two mods/an admin getting denied is just astounding to me. I’ve never understood the exclusivity of being an OMM, or why they are so strict in the voting stages. If you complete all the required trades, build a good reputation, and have a clean history, there should be no reason for you to be denied.

I just feel like staff getting denied OMM is a bad look for the site. It doesn’t surprise me at all that none of them are on staff anymore. Not saying there’s any correlation, but finding out they got denied must’ve been a real gut punch for those guys. Yikes

 

I think we should look at more than just "OMM activity" when it comes to deeming whether an OMM is inactive or not.

I know I haven't been the most active OMM but I am still very active in the market (it is my job, and my side job) and I haven't had time to bump my OMM thread and give time to the people who need it. However; I don't deem myself a threat to the community or 'inactive' by any chance because I still work 6 days a week in the OSRS/RS3 market.
I hope this gets taken in to consideration also when looking at an OMMs activity, because if they are still in the general market, I don't see them as a threat of randomly scamming.

 

I agree that there should be many things taken into consideration and that since you are like you said active working, you 100% deserve to keep the role. I think I’m more extreme cases of inactivity should it be taken but only then. If your active and bump your thread when you can that is honestly enough abd it doesn’t have to be extremely harsh the activity requirements as a whole.

 

Of course, I was just using bumps as an example. It’s just that currently when users go the the Middleman forum looking for someone to help with their trade, there are likely few, if any, OMM available. There’s no need to be too strict, I just feel like the activity requirements may be a little loose right now.

My concern, however, is more with the strictness in accepting OMM. All it’s caused is a lack of available OMM.

 

I think it's fine as it is, staff can already deny them even if all requirements are met but the person looks sketchy. There are just not many people using middle-mans anymore as most trades includes 1 trusted person nowdays and randoms rarely trade between each other cuz the profit margins of trusted people are extremely low now (and it's not worth paying omm fee or wasting ur time with mm's for few $)

 

The last couple of months have involved lots of big scams, which most of them are deemed trusted and full of dedication, still scams and fucks people up, like Bolt.
There’s currently not many OMM, and some might not be active, but they have indeed not shown weakness in the bad habit of scamming, which shows a really strong and reliable OMM’s.

I think there should be more OMM. The application itself should not be changed at all, not be made easier or harder. In my opinion, the vote in the OMM lounge should be removed. The applications should still go through there, but OMM should only be responsible for looking through the trades to ensure that everything is legitimate and that all the trades meet the standards of an OMM.

The way it is now with a 7 day voting stage in the OMM lounge simply drags out the process longer than it needs to be. It also bothers me that the people deciding whether you get the rank are also your 'competitors' in the market. The whole thing just makes the rank feel like some exclusive club rather than a badge of trust.

3. Are you serious? I can count OMMs that achieved the rank since my promotion to OMM on fingers of one hand, it was few years ago. There's no that big demand for middlemen services nowadays and requirements are just fine if not already too hard, there's no point of making that even harde to achieve, when I applied for OMM it was way easier to get it than now and you're suggesting making it even harder, my app took me approx 1 year.

 

Yes, that part in the process should always be there. It is important for OMM to review the app itself. Does the vote in there not matter? I thought that it did. If that is the case I'm not sure why there is even a poll there. When it comes to polls, it's usually the first couple people that see the thread doing the legwork and then it's the others mostly agreeing with other posts in the thread, unless someone has an experience they feel is important to bring up. Removing the poll from OMM lounge changes the replies from "yes" or "no" to more constructive feedback that Upper Staff can make more use of when voting.

 

Didn’t read most of this but I would assume you are suggesting to make it easier to become an OMM. While I agree I was dissapointed Champ, King and I were denied - I’d in other cases be very glad if it was someone else. I think I’m fine with it as it is, and I’m especially glad the inactive ones are now removed. Hopefully those applications of banned/inactive/DNT’ed members are denied by now aswell, since previously Shin said that he’d leave those open in case they ever return, but that’d mean they’d keep all supports and vouches too. If that isn’t done by now then that would atleast be a change I’d like to see.

 

No support (not because of... you know @Assassin) but because over my short time on Sythe I've seen users who have had many trades of value well over $500 scam maybe a few months down the line. It's who they are as a person. If they have scammed/stolen from someone in their past, they will always have the mindset that it's a possibility to scam. When in reality, in a perfect world, an OMM shouldn't possess that trait. Alas, our world is not perfect.. :c

Basically, I think it's good that so many OMM apps get denied. It weeds out many people with the potential to use the rank for ill. Making someone work for it more than the norm of what's considered "to hard to achieve" will set that person apart from the rest of the applicants which is how it should be IMO.

What constitutes better guidelines? It seems pretty clear-cut on the requirements to apply. As for being accepted, it tends to be case-by-case due to the clout the role is meant to exude and anything from believing a potential OMM to be untrustworthy to reservations about their character may limit ones' potentiality from receiving the role.

Activity requirements are likely a good thing (particularly if someone is disappearing for a year-or-two).

Its already a pain to become an OMM.

If this suggestion isn't already dead-in-the-water, I'd suggest a larger MM re-work. @staff I think there's a thread laying around in SL from an OMM re-work I pitched that never gained traction.

I say a larger re-work as OMMs are almost dead-content and if there was an incentivization measure for OMM utilization, we could likely cut down on scams and incentivize the rank once again; albeit, this may be a bit too paternalistic for big rich.

 

I'd love to be an OMM. 10 years here with no stain on my name whatsoever. I simply come and go and just spend here, never sell. Would love to help others get a safe trade, but nope. I'm just a scam-quit waiting to happen, right?

I'm not too sure why you're trying to be passive-aggressive against the rules of OMM when you haven't bumped your MM thread since 2018. If you cared to help others.. why not bump it and do it for free..?
