Your country's military?

I was wondering how the military is viewed in other countries. For example, here in the States, the majority of the population hold service members in very high regards. It is looked on as something noble, and is normally applauded.

What about your country? What are the connotations associated with being in the military? Is it considered a postive or negative thing?

 

It's something you have to do, as a male. (Anywhere from 3-12 months).

(Norway).

 

I'm from the US so I've seen my fair share of appreciation for the military and family members of those serving. It's not what it used to be though when everyone was gungho for war and when pearl harbor happened everyone wanted to take part in the fight.

As of now the military is filled with teenagers who didn't have any set plans after high school.

 

probably the same in canada as america, although personally i don't feel the cause is worth fighting for and don't treat soldiers with any more respect than normal people, if they want to put their lives in danger for a cause that isn't even worth fighting for, then to each their own

 

Not everyone in America values the soldiers as near-godly, but nearly most do. Especially here in the South, but that might just be because most people 'round these parts are Republicans.

 

I'm pretty sure a lot of Canadians hold their soldiers in high regard too, but not as high as Americans do. The military in Canada is pretty small and insignificant, compared to other countries, so not many people are lined up and ready to join.

I, personally, hold soldiers on a pretty high regard. My Grandfather was in the Indian military and was pretty decorated for serving in WWII. He lied about his age (he was 15 when he enlisted) just to serve for a purpose he believed in, and I find that pretty respectable.

 

They're viewed as regular people. Our country has never been in a war before, so people around here just don't care if you're military personnel.

 

Not to mention our Seakings are from the start of the damn Cold War.

 

Very respected in the states. Naturally, you don't fuck with someone in the army/navy/marines/airforce.

In my country (Egypt) It's believed that the Egyptian soliders are the most powerful solider in the world, As 90% of Egyptians are Muslims, & Islam said that they are best soliders in the world.
Long live Egypt had about 7 wars just in the last century, & may be more than triple of that number in the century before! So it had to have a powerful military.
The special missions soliders in Egypt are called Saikans which means (Thunder)..
Egypt is ranked the 11th most advanced army (check wikipedia), but anyway they didn't count the Man power,(Did they?), If they counted that it shall be on top..

 

Your not a Canadian citizen, therefore you cannot make the statement that we do not hold our soldiers in as high of a regard as you (US). To say our military is insignificant is quite an ignorant statement, considering you have 10x our population and if you work out the per capita you don't have THAT much more than we do.

 

I live in Alabama in the US. They're respected by practically everyone. Haha, but me. Haha.:laugh:

 

In Canada they seem to be held in very high regard, but we have a different view of war than in the U.S...

 

Ya, Egypt was pretty strong, especially in the Nasser era. He is one of the political figures I would most like to meet were the opportunity available.

From what i've seen in Australia, the military in general and people who are involved with it in someway, are treated like normal people, not hero's or anything around that. Except until something happens, I.E: Pity from an altercation.

 

well here in the Uk us British we love the soilders and hold them in very high regard however we have been disgused by british muslims who have been holding events at some of the soilders homcoming calling them "murders" etc this has outraged most people in the uk

 

The general consensus in the US towards soldiers is positive, but we get similiar hate rallys from certain groups in the States.

 

I think the uproar over the muslim protests here is more because everyone hates muslims than because everyone respects the military.

 

In Mexico a lot are viewed as corrupt lol.
