Why do you believe in God?

You guys need to realize there is a difference between a higher power, and common sense. Of course you're not going to go jump off cliffs or steal. Its common sense to not do that. No God is going to punish you for that. Its in your own accord. If people are so sure a god exists, why even bother with a police force? The convicts will get what they deserve when they die. God doesn't exist simply because, its impossible to prove he does. No evidence or anything. Religion is simply a figure head for power during middle ages.

Believe in a higher power if you wish. No one says you can't.

But remember guys, Practice what you preach.

Why do you believe in God?

I find it slightly ironic that your name is 'epiclygodly' :D

On topic though, I have a question for you. Why is it we are the only organisms that have knowledge? In those millions of years, not one other organism 'developed' the ability or intelligence to separate instinct from logic and common sense? All animals act upon instinct and will never see the world from a logical sense. They will never experience love, hate, or relationships like we do. That doesn't strike you the slightest bit odd?

As an atheist, where do morales and feelings hold a place in your beliefs? And how can you justify them from a completely scientific standpoint?

Why do you believe in God?

The problem I find is that, you are only referring to Earth.

There are Trillions of stars out in the universe.

Our sun is one of them, harboring 8 planets.

I find it impossible that out of 80 billion observable galaxies, we are the ONLY lifeforms with the capacity for "knowledge"
Of course there is that chance, however when you take it into perspective like that, based on statistics and chance you cannot roll the number 1 on a dice a million times in a row.

Why do you believe in God?

Most people believe in a higher power so they believe in what they are doing is going towards something, and they aren't just going to become fertilizer in a graveyard.

I for one believe in a god mainly because
    1) you can't get something from nothing; and where did all this shit come from?
    2) so when it does come time for me to die, I believe that i'll be going somewhere, and that I haven't lived my life for no reason.

Is it bad to say that if I knew where I was going, and it was better than life as I live it, that I would kill myself right now?

P.S. - There's many reports recalling Near Death Experiences (NDE) and Transidential (idk spelling, too lazy to look it up) meditation (TM) and most reports include visuals of "the white light".
Now, at first you may not believe this. But there are numerous reports on people born BLIND who have NDE's, and explain what was going on all around him, describe the outlay of the room, etc.

Another instance of a NDE included this one person in the ER, unconscious, and being operated on. While in the recovery room, he told one of the nurses to take down the quarter from above the light that was right above him.
-How did he know it was there?
-The nurses/doctors couldn't even see it, it was too high up for anyone to notice.
    -(It actually was there)
Now tell me; how can these people know these things, while they are unconscious?

It's because during NDE/TM you have an "out of body" experience, where you look at yourself from an above kind of view. Now this basically forces the belief of a soul in my mind.

And lastly, I believe in a god because I think about it every day, and you can't describe life, reality, etc. We don't know whether or not we're dreaming right now and when we 'fall asleep' we're actually living the real life. And really, the complexity and detailed structure of the human body just astounds me to no end. How the body functions, where we get the power to do these kinds of things - it's like little machines generating our body.. the diaphragm, eyes, brain.. just everything about the human body makes me believe in a god, as well as animals.
The complexity and ways of all humans and animals functioning is beyond anyones knowledge, and something must've created all of it for a very damn good reason.

Note: I don't care if you don't believe what I said, or it doesn't make sense. I like putting my thoughts into words and that's that.

Why do you believe in God?

All organisms have knowledge. You're saying that a dog, who is supposedly "mans best friend" doesn't love or hate or anything? How can that be? Many dogs die along with there masters. Broken heart. Feelings are in all creatures. Dogs to mice to us. Every single one of them has feelings and knowledge. You limit things and your mind is unopened.

    @Rexasaurous

    1. Your right. Nothing can't just randomly spawn there. So how did God come to be? There isn't even a logical explanation to him coming from where ever he did. Science at least has evidence to support their theories.

    2. You're worried about what happens after you die. The meaning of life is not to "go somewhere after you die". The reality is that the meaning of life is for you to live your life, make an impact in someway, then die. There is no mystical eden you go to, no matter if you are good or bad.

When you dream, you can only dream of things you have seen and place you have gone to. You can't dream of some random hobo in Norway, unless you have seen that exact man and have been Norway.

And yeah, the human body is interesting.
But God did not create all of this.
Millions of years, we have evolved, adapting to our surroundings.
If you believe in God, then you must also believe in Satan. So, if you believe in Satan, you must also realize that he is the second creator of the world, because he is all the evil in the world. Now tell me, do you believe that?

Yeah, "god" can create. Scientists can create. God is not some special being floating above us, we have already been there. He isn't under us, we already found whats there. He isn't in every single living thing, because everything dies. He isn't there or anywhere. Hes a joke for people who have no grasp on life and use God as an excuse because they want hope for a better future.
God is basically telling you "Believe in me, or you will suffer in the end"
Thats kinda harsh considering he "LOVES" everyone. This doesn't make sense now does it?

Why does god leave the world as it is, in chaos, killing each other, grown man robbing from old ladies?
    Because he doesn't exist.

And one more to close this off.
    You believe in your god.
Some kid in India believes in another god.
Some kid in china believes in a different god.

Who has the real god? Religion's say there is only one god. And that one god will only take care of the follower of his or her religion.

Why do you believe in God?

Whenever someone says that I just laugh.
God is something, where did he come from?

What you have just said is that:

You believe in God because you lack the knowledge to understand how something so complex can be created, and something (God) must've created it.

If you could go back in time, and present to the cavemen a car, a gun, an aeroplane. If you were the creator of those objects, are you God?

Just because we as humans today cannot understand something, do not possess the knowledge required to explain something, doesn't mean that God must be the only explanation.

Why do you believe in God?

I dont believe in god because theres no proof
Sure theres some big book about loads of ancient happenings but how do we know this is true?
Someone in the future could pick up a harry potter book and think that is some sort of book from god?
Its just a massive rumour and has gone to far!

Why do you believe in God?

So if you read my whole entire post, you would see that I didn't comment to have YOU lecture your atheism to me. Just because you don't believe in a god doesn't mean that he's "a joke". That's your own god damn opinion, and I respect you for that. But don't come here preaching "he's a joke, he doesn't exist." It's a thread to post why you BELIEVE in god; so why did you even click on the thread if you don't?

And, to believe in a god doesn't necessarily mean that you have to believe in Satan. There's many forms of religions that don't include some creation of evil. So yes, I believe in god and not a Satan. Problem?

Opinion thread, not a "preach your atheism here".

Why do you believe in God?

Then give me an explanation of where the existence of planets, solar systems and organisms came from. And if you say something along the lines of, "evolution and developing over time".. well it didn't evolve from nothing, so what did the original substance come from?

Whenever I see someone say "where did god come from if you can't get something from nothing", I laugh too.

Why do you believe in God?

conservation of mass states that nothing can be created or destroyed.

It is actually more flawed to believe that the universe was created than to believe that it has just always been.

Why do you believe in God?

O I understand, thank you for converting me.

I am now Hindu, where God A was created by God B, and God B by C, and C by D, and ABCDEFGHIJKLMN, BY ABCDEFGHIJKLMNO...

You completely contradict yourself + employ a double standard. You avoided the question completely probably because your just a blind follower, who's incapable of backing up your ridiculous propositions.

I like how you assume that there was nothing there to begin with.
Have you not heard of the Big Bang theory?

    I'll be a smart arse.

    0 = 1
    therefore
    0 / 0 = 1 x 0.
    therefore
    0=0

If you believe in him, then do so. If you don't, then live on.

Just stop fucking trying to disprove each other now.

Why do you believe in God?

Your thread is full retard. You never conveyed a central point... are you christian or are you not? WHAT IS THIS THREAD ABOUT.

You're clearly ignorant, because if you only need two words to make you believe in a 'deity' there's something wrong.
