    what came before god?

Pink elephants created god. The sad part is that guess is just as evident as anyone else's guess.

    what came before god?

Warning, I have not read any other posts except for the initial one.

The question is misleading, because there is no such thing as god in the world. The only place that god exists is in the mind of human beings. The explanation for this is quite simple, due to what the definition of existence is. Existence is defined as an object that is made of matter and energy which is observable and testable in the universe. The word god itself means supernatural, not made of matter and energy, and not of this universe; therefore by simple definition one cannot justify the existence of a god. People sometimes ask "well what if jesus came to earth and started performing miracles." The answer is that the being would not be considered a deity because jesus in this example would be in this universe, made of matter and energy while being observable and testable. The question of what came before god is meaningless, since by the simple definition of existence, god cannot exist.

    what came before god?

Drawing energy from the heat of matter. Matter. Where did the matter come from?

I know what you think God is, please stop bashing and ignorantly making fun of my theory and belief. Who are you to say I lack leadership traits? If you're going to debate, debate the topic at hand and disprove a higher being, not bash others with my same theory and belief system.

While a "God" may be being backed into a smaller corner, it's still the same corner where the universe was created and begun. And this is the question that cannot be answered by human science.

Correct me if I'm wrong but in order to have potential energy there has to be mass present. You've told me two things about the universes creation: 1) Energy created the mass (through E=mc^2), and 2) Mass created energy. (potential energy). Both are dependent on each other, and beg the same question: How did the mass come to be?

    what came before god?

I'm saying it's something our human race will never understand. I'm saying a higher power is a possibility, and not to rule it out. This is just what I believe. The question is open ended because we'll never know for sure.

    what came before god?

We as humans have been able to create micro-bacterial life, which is essentially what everything started out as on this planet (and most likely others), just single celled organisms that grew and adapted. If humans were able to created life, then who says someone didn't create us? I myself am an atheist, I don't believe in some profound god who created us on a whim in a matter of days out of nothing. I don't however fully doubt the idea that another species, most likely more advanced than ours, has created us.

Before God? There is no before God, he had always been there. It's just this simple.

    what came before god?

like multiple posts above have stated, before god made light or whatever, nobody had an interpretation of how long a day is. 1 day in the creation story=who knows how long in gods eyes.

    what came before god?

I have often thought about this... People say the big bang created the universe and that God created the big bang.

But what I can never get my head around is, how could something simply just "be there" without being created, It's something I will never be able to grasp or simply give into thinking because It's so crazy to think what else is out there, I believe we aren't the only planet to have life forms.

Thinking about all this stuff just confuses me but is very interesting, it's one thing we will NEVER know.

I myself am a Christian but not a strong believer but I believe there must be a "God", otherwise I find it hard that everything could of just started by itself, I mean look at the human body, It is designed into every detail, It's just mad!

    what came before god?

he is called god.. because he is, what makes him God is that fact that there was nothing before him, he is the divine power, he has no beginning and no end.

If he was so divine, he wouldn't have needed to rest for a day.

    what came before god?

it is also a possibility that a demon is creating the world we perceive right now.

that does not mean it is rational to believe so.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil_demon

we do know it is rational not to believe in a god due to lack of evidence supporting it.

if you want to learn about why our body parts are designed to fit our environment so well, you should read up on evolutionary theory instead of just leaping to GOD DID IT.

as for ur wondering how matter came to be. that is a good question because nothing can be created or destroyed, only transformed.

this is the law of conservation of mass.

    what came before god?

It is rational to believe there is a divine power, force, or God, because we don't have evidence to say there wasn't one before the existing of the universe as we know it. That's all I'm trying to say.

If one day we have conclusive evidence that something was created from nothing due to "blah blah blah" then I will retract everything I've debated in this thread and stand corrected. But until that day, I will keep defending my position that there is a divine power.

it is not rational to believe in something simply because it is a possibility.

it is possible that the universe isnt even real and I'm in the matrix, that doesnt mean I should believe it simply because it is possible.

we have no evidence of any divine beings at all. as such, it is reasonable to either not believe in them or withhold judgement. it is not reasonable to believe though.

maybe you should look up logical reasoning and do some reading on it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reason#Deductive_reasoning

i dont know what is so hard about this.

if you have evidence supporting your side, by all means believe in it.
if you simply have no contradictory evidence, that is no reason to believe in your statement.
the validity of beliefs falls with how much evidence it is backed by. in this case, there is no evidence supporting the idea of a divine being.

    what came before god?

The problem with your question, and one of the reasons besides the fact we genuinely do not know, is that it implies that existance has always followed a linear timeline.
