500 posts and 20 vouches is hardly respectable. Anyone can do that. Hell, I've been here 4 years and I only have 1k posts + 50 vouches. I don't think I would really be eligible for a name change (although don't really need one). I think if they are truly active in the community, you'll see staff making the right decisions.

It's pretty funny when people who have had name changes vote no so that others can't (looking at you Govind and Superman).

There's no harm in it if it's done right, with the proper restrictions.

    The Official Name Change Poll

Try to expand your simple pragmatic thoughts into critical thinking and look at the big picture, rather than the instantaneous payoff. Name changing sounds harmless and fun, however, it creates more problems than it fixes!

I see future disaster with frequent name changes. (1) Newcomers will be tricked into being scammed more often, (2) it will create community confusion where no one knows who is who (its already bad with the few name changes), and (3) it creates more work for admins, who already volunteer an immense amount of time and effort to this site.

Names don't matter. What matters is the respect and trust you earn by engaging in the community and following the rules. The only reasons people would want to change their names is because (1) just because, serving no practical reason, (2) to avoid bad reputation, (3) to use an old trusted name, gaining false trust.

None of these points make name changing seem necessary, so why are we considering this?

Side Note: Name changes confuse the hell out of me. When I saw "Shin" posting around, I got excited thinking Shinoda came back, only to find out it was a name change. I don't like having to research to find out who is who. If name changing passes, you wont find me here as often. I have no desire to solve the mystery, "who is who".

There is no need for "frequent name changes" only 1 name change ever, or once a year.

Also you said " (1) just because, serving no practical reason"

That's not true, for example look at my name bogdan123 I made it in 2010 when I was a kid I didn't even think for 1 sec about it when I made my account i wanted to get on the forums quick and buy a phat from what I remember.

I want a simple name change from bogdan123 to Bogdan

Bogdan looks way more professional then bogdan123

The thing I see with this is it's not something anyone needs and it isn't even useful. I actually voted yes, but I'd like to change it. People have started over on a new account without an issue. Although they didn't have that much to lose when starting over. As much as I'd like to see this, I don't even know if I want a name change, I'd lean more to yes because I wouldn't mind having such an option available. But that aside, it's not really useful.

Although I don't like name modifications either, I'm not 100% against it. I don't mind taking off numbers or capitalizing a character. What I don't like is a complete change. For example: bogdan123 --> Zypur

I think you can agree with me, this is completely unnecessary and problematic.

I agree with Giddy on this one,
While I have a different Alias I use now, I'd much rather take off the _ in my name than completely change it to my new Alias. It'd cause too much confusion for people to identify who is who, and simple name changes (capitalization, etc.) should be allowed rather than full-on name changes.

Not really, if it could say "last known as ..." under your name it wouldn't be confusing at all.

    Still retarded.

Unb4nn3d had his name changed to Shin, which was ridiculous as there was a staff member named "Shinoda" and just caused unnecessary confusion.

For those of us that aren't always active, those last known as bars will disappear after a month, as you're suggesting. If I go away for a month, and come back, my mind is going to be full of fuck.

Sometimes it takes staff members hours on end to handle a few reports so imagine how long it would take for them to deal with well over 50-100 name requesting threads.

The last known bar could be a little icon next to your name so that when you hover over it it'll say "last known as..." forever.
Just like friends list on runescape, doesn't have to be in the user title.

It depends on the requirements for me, which I'm sure the staff will handle just fine.
