Sythe Verified User Removed & Mobile Recovery Added

Update for you all...

The "Sythe Verified User" rank and the entire S.V.U. system has been removed. Accounts that had the SVU rank have been awarded prizeboxes as compensation. People who advertise "SVU" in their thread titles should remove it ASAP.

In other news, we've introduced a new way to recover your accounts: through mobile phone number. Go to http://www.sythe.org/account/personal-details and scroll down to "Recovery Phone Number" to add your own phone number if you wish - this will make recovering your sythe.org account very easy in the future.

Great clarification, I was sat there posting to Gracious that multiple people still have SVU in titles, yet SVU is gone. Haha

Not a required input your phone number, but definitely a box to have this option of recovery. That would be great for newcomers.

Is this going to be kept private? I assume it's gonna be. and, In the case you get your account hacked and someone access your personal information, can you make it to show only a few numbers like this: 43****059

I didn't think of this, and I was adamant on questioning the security of it all.

 

Well I've seen it's pretty standard security meassure, not really much people feels okay handling out personal info everywhere that's why they keep it private. I don't know anything about personal details security. I'm just a random dude with a tinfoil hat in my head. What if someone gets a way of cloning my phone number and use it to hack me?

 

Mobile/Profile how secure?

I was querying a few things down here, I hadn't felt like questions were fully answered, and I still felt a tad worried there was something that could need more security. Such as who can see the number, which staff, all staff, any staff? Hence why I haven't utilized this yet, even if there's a 0% chance of me being hacked because I'm 2FA'd.


@Moes is starring out a few numbers easy to implement?

 

In order for XenForo to mask this phone number client side it would need to be an option in AdminCP and I cannot find any info on it as of yet.

I Feel the same way like you. I'm not worried about being hacked here, I have 2FA too. BUT, in the extremely rare case of my phone number being released to the public, what It worries me, and I believe i'm not alone here, if that's the case, it could be used to recover accounts like Gmail, hotmail, skype etc. Again, as I said, is an extremely rare case/Tinfoil hat on

So glad to finally hear that SVU has been removed. Been pushing for that for a long time
