    Reducing big scams.

Alright, as you guys know there are several scam reports day in and day out.

Even reputable user, and $100+ donors do it.

    How can we stop it?

We can't quite simply, but we can reduce it.

    That's where I was thinking.

For trades let's say over $50 ID must be provided to Sythe.

An image of the user and some form of ID (Pasport, drivers lisence etc).
The ID must also contain a piece of paper containing their Sythe username.

Why is this a good method?

    1. The scammers personal info could be released to the victim/s.
The victim could then contact the police or send letters asking for payment or even pay them a visit.

This is a better method of the implemented system, SVU.
The reason being is you can't do much with a phone number, especially if it's a temporary sim or if the user has several of which he disposes of.

    2. If this was added, ban evaders wouldn't be able to create new accounts as if the info was added to a list, it'd match and they would be banned. Also, I'm sure most people are 18+.

Buying counterfeit ID is expensive, especially good looking ones, so this would work really well.
Most people wouldn't sell their ID on behalf of you, as most people are sceptical over such things.
    What are your thoughts?

This is quite a hassle and might reduce trades on sythe and people will instead have them done on other websites.

Why not just use an OMM?

This wouldn't be enforced, it would cut down on the market by a considerable amount (legit traders too, not just scammers.) Many people don't feel comfortable providing their ID for a simple trade. As a result, you'll see a good deal of market traffic drop off completely.

This isn't ideal for the site for obvious reasons.

    Reducing big scams.

It would definitely reduce total incidences of scamming, however it would also essentially destroy the market since most people are hesitant about uploading their ID online, and people will just go elsewhere where they don't have to upload an ID. It's just a pointless suggestion, a pyrrhic victory against scammers.

    Reducing big scams.

A business should care more about the quality of customers rather than the quantity.

Most big traders would happily give their ID, because it would be a way of income, it's basically a job where you'd have to provide your personal information.

Also, many sites especially RS gp selling sites require ID, I don't see the issue their. PayPal, various BitCoin sites etc generally require it for security.

If you don't want to reveal your info, it generally means you are more likelier to scam. The ID has to be provided once only.

    Most sites require ID nowadays.

Opening a bank account, using PayPal, selling and buying BitCoins, giving loans out, you name it.

Limitations on the market aren't going to happen, there's literally no way to enforce this either

With that being said, SVU is a joke

I agree with the SVU part.
It can't really be enforced, but it could somehow be added to each thread automatically I guess. Like each thread must say, all trades over $50+ must be require ID.

    Reducing big scams.

    1) This favors big traders massively and cuts a vast majority of people out of the market, which is bad.
    2) This has been suggested before to no avail.
    3) This has also been suggested as part of SVU v2.0, which is in the works (?)
    4) There are probably legality/security difficulties associated with storing certain bits of personal information.
    5) Even if someone does have your real ID, no one's gonna take you to court over $200.

The best way to stop scamming is to ban trading altogether. This doesn't quite do that much, but it comes close. No support.

Most sites like Sythe.org don't. Sythe doesn't compete with PayPal or ANZ Bank. It competes with sites such as powerbot, epvp, hackforums etc etc.

I can't count how many times I've dealt with 50 dollars on this site and I barely market. I can't see ever releasing my full name to anybody but people I truly trust.
