Move in with Mom?

Well, you guys probably won't help at all. I pretty much have my mind made up, but extra feedback won't hurt =/.

My brother just left for a 7 month deployment, and I took over his estate. I live with his best friend, and we're in a pretty nice townhouse. Anyways, we just got a 'Civil Claim for Eviction' which means I have to show up to a court hearing and try and settle some financial bullshit...

Long story short, possible $1600 court fine... Not too bad, but enough to suck. So, I'm trying to figure out if I want to try and settle this issue with the apartment complex, and keep the apartment, or move back home with mom for the next 7 months until my brother gets home.

I'm almost guaranteed that I'll win this claim, and be allowed to keep the apartment, but after something like this... who would want to? .

 

Go through with the claim, once you move out of your parents house you should never move back in. If you end up loosing the case then you should try to find other options like renting places, before moving in with your mother.

True. But if lost, there is no other option. The CoL in this area is way to high for me to able to pull off a fast relocation attempt.

Seabiscuit: I moved out of my parents house when I first turned 18. I fell on my ass because I didn't plan stuff out first. Then I moved back in with my parents till I got a great job... Then I lost that job.. Now I got another great job offer... Then I moved out again... But the point is.. When you're down, your parents will always be there to back you up and vise versa if your parents are down, it's called family.

I do however agree with you about finding other options but sometimes that's not the case with everyone.

Okay so your brother is gone for 7 months, you have his townhouse, and you're debating to go to court for your apartment (which I guess you live in previously)? Why don't you drop the apartment and live in the townhouse... I must not be reading this right?

I'f you hundred percent certain you can win the claim then go for it, if it doesn't work out you can always move back in with your parents until you sort out your finances then thing about renting your own place out? maybe with a freind and rent from people you can trust.

Right, that's what we're discussing. The issue here is... living with mom, or not living with mom. TBH, it's not a bad idea, but it's also a very bad idea.

I find this really funny, because a townhouse is not an apartment what so ever. An apartment, you rent, a townhouse, someone actually owns it.

 

Not by common definition, no. A townhouse is an apartment with two stories. However, when most people talk about apartments, they're referring to one story abodes.

My lease says townhouse and apartment in different areas... so legally... the definition is the same.

Also: Update - I am moving back in, so this issue is resolved. My brother decided to not renew the lease, so 6 months of living with mom .

 

Lol okay. I've never heard someone call a townhouse an apartment while yes, there are multiple families jointed together in one building. So you're right, it does follow the definition. But at the same time so does a hotel, so does a hospital, a condo, an assisted living home, and a nursing home. So... kind of retarded to use the term apartment for a townhouse >_<
