Is marrying a cousin/relative Okay?

Having skimmed through the posts on this thread, many pertain to potential defects children of inbred cousin parents may be burdened with. However, the thread discusses marriage, and so marriage should be discussed and its acceptability pondered, rather than external issues such as reproduction discussed.

Personally, I subjectively believe that marriage is an exemplification of love between two people. Given that many cousins could easily be lovers, I feel that their love should be equally valid for state representation through marriage as that of any other couple's. I think preventing cousin couples from marrying would otherwise be discriminatory.

Charles Darwin had ten children, only three died at an early age. Their second child was ten years old, their third child died at birth, and their last child died at age three.

"Only" three died. That's 30% buddy. =|

In this case brothers and sisters would be able to get married. That's just wrong.

If two people find that they are in love and are also first cousins there is nothing wrong with that. If these two individuals decide they want to have children then they would go over the possible health risks of it and decide whether or not they think the risk is worth the reward. From there they make a decision, and whatever happens will happen. So that throws out the idea for two people not to have children if they are cousins.

Selfish IMO. Think about the child.

Also homosexuality exists in a lot of species, not just humans.

Name one.

So to marry, you MUST have a religion?

Actually, marriage IS based off religion, hence the religious vows which now a days can be taken out. But none the less that is what marriage was for. A bonding, a promise, religiously.

I'm curious. Does the Bible ever speak against relatives being married? Or is it only those of the same gender?

Yes actually it does.

I suggest you read how those three children died buddy. His second child died at age ten because of scarlet fever and possibly tuberculosis, his last child died at age two because of scarlet fever also. Not sure what his third child died of, although he did die as a baby. But listen here buddy, apparently none of the children had birth defects so its not a 30% rate.

How often do three kids in the same family die?

Poor immune system, buddy?

Don't mock me when you don't even know what you're talking about.

I don't believe they they get married to each other due to the risks of birth defects as well as other issues that can arise from it.

As well as `Try and run` stated

"For Christians - God commanded many cousins to marry, including Zelophehad's 5 daughters, Eleazar's daughters, Jacob (who married both Rachel and Leah, first cousins), and Isaac and Rebekkah (first cousins once removed)"

Though that passage which `Try and run` stated is from the book of `numbers` which is in the old testament which is Judaism now Christianity.

Back in the 1800's quite a few people would die, probably 3 out of 10 people died from minor/serious illnesses. If you haven't noticed, a lot of people got sick and died from things that are minor to us today. A vaccine for Scarlet Fever wasn't developed until 1924, and penicillin wasn't used for treatment until the 1940's.

I know what Im talking about, so stfu and stop posting on my thread untill you know what your talking about.

But 3/10? Give me statistics.

PS: all the bold words are spelling errors.

I have no statistics, but neither did you. I was simply giving an estimate. Thanks for correcting me, I will change these words immediately.

You made the point, you get the evidence. And I said it could have been a factor, you said it was because people died a lot back then. Once again, you're the one required to obtain evidence.

Personally I don't like the idea of it but if someone wants to go and do stuff like that then they can go ahead its none of my business to interfere with other peoples lives.

Wrong in my opinion. All I can say of the matter. We're not animals, we don't breed with our family.

Marrying cousin?? Cant find anyone else in this world?? I think its only for people who are desperate to marry.

I believe in letting people do what they want, life is about making choices as long as they are reasonable. If someone wants to marry their cousin and their cousin is cool with it then go for it, it's not my business.

Me personally, I wouldn't marry anyone closely related to me.

And you are able to dictate what you feel is that line of what's considered reasonable because?

Nor would I marry anyone in the family blood line. unless someone was in my family by law. but even then like homefry said "I wouldnt want to be looked down apon"

It's their choice, they can do whatever they like I don't see a problem with it at all.
