    Marrying cousins.

If you read the Old Testament, marriage is pretty much a sex license.

    Marrying cousins.

Marriage was around before the Old Testament was ever thought of.

    Marrying cousins.

Perhaps some of us don't take the bible as literal fact?

What does that have to do with it? The point is that the Bible has a series of laws concerning marriage, which marriage has been based on for a very long time.

So to marry, you MUST have a religion?

This is a weak argument that won't go anywhere.

Schnell is just stating the fact that the Bible has references to marriage and certainly enough some of them pertain to practices we hold now in modern day marriage.

That was eloquent, well thought out and you justified your answer well.

A very long time, over two thousand years in fact. Maybe that presents a problem?

    Marrying cousins.

I'm curious. Does the Bible ever speak against relatives being married? Or is it only those of the same gender?

    Shut up.

    I am sitting. Boy.

Honestly, why? Are you that much of a judgmental, stereotypical tool to have assumed that anyone with an opinion other than yours HAS to be from a place that you deem unworthy, by any standard?

Because only white trash does something as sick as that. And I have relatives from Kentucky, it's funny to me, it's funny to them. Shit like that needs to stay on the Jerry Springer show. I stated my opinion, and that's purely my opinion.

Try reading this sections rules on posting. We don't care about your opinion unless you give a constructive/creative reason why.

Purely subjective garbage you are giving us does nothing to help us grasp the concept being discussed at hand.

Caucasians aren't the only race to marry within their blood family. Stating so makes you ignorant and arrogant.

You stated your opinion, and this is a debating forum.

I hate to break it to you, but I'm pretty sure there's quite a bit of inbreeding in this world, and it's a very natural, common thing. I think the only reason you think that is because you don't know or understand anything. My money's on the fact that you have a very low intelligence, and are probably from a backwater town in which you spent most of your time criticizing others and not realizing your own horrid faults.

    http://geography.about.com/od/obtainpopulationdata/a/worldpopulation.htm

Look at the world population, genius. Somewhere, someone had sex with a relative.

You should also note that family means nothing past genetics. Your, I'm guessing, moral opinion? is purely bullshit as it has no backing.

Though I guess some studies have been done that suggest inbreeding to be the cause of mental and physical deformities, those studies, I'm sure, are pretty fucking old, and they're probably based on the same opinion as yours.

I've always found the best way to fight ignorant assumptions is with ignorant assumptions.

    Care to elaborate?

There are countless examples and independent studies proving that prolonged inbreeding causes higher frequencies of genetic mutations and abnormalities.

While of course humans are different to bumblebees, this very recent study shows how direct inbreeding rapidly affects the fertility and survival rate of bees. Bear in mind, humans are vastly more complicated organisms than bumblebees, meaning there is far larger scope for things to 'go wrong'.

The study can be found at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2712462/

    Indeed.

Humans don't grow on trees. You can have a population that goes from a couple of million to a couple of billion through natural evolution in such a short time span. Someone, somewhere, had to have sex with their relatives.

Meaning it's only natural, also meaning we'd probably not exist if this weren't true.

Indeed they are, and though I don't deny the validity of their study, I do not believe there have been any conclusive studies done on humans within the last decade which suggests that mating with genetic similarities causes any form of deformity and such. From my understanding of human development, new genetic deformities don't just pop-up out of the blue. Somewhere in the genetic code of one of the two parents is the problem with the child. Maybe inbreeding may increase the potential of a deformity, as both parents would probably have similar genetic code so they'd both probably have the same deformity in them...

But once you get to cousins, you're already a generation removed. So unless they display obvious genetic problems, I doubt their children would have any problems.
