I might discourage it, but I certainly wouldn't prevent two consenting adults from marrying eachother.

I think it's a bit awkward. If you've known somebody who's in your family, and marry them, that's weird..

Marrying one from your own family? You're telling me, you'd do that?

I Think it is very wrong because they are most likely hurting other family members emotionally. plus if they have a baby its going to come out deformed which they are basically putting all the weight and burden on the child. I think if cousins/Relatives want to marry they should consult with their family members support/ or go to a pastor for guidance.

Down syndrome usually isn't inherited. First cousins marrying each other should not have children. I would not be against marriage, but knowing and accepting the high risk of having a child with a birth defect and having one anyway is immoral.

Marriage has, and always will be, a religious tradition. I don't even know why the government recognizes it as something 'official' as it's incredibly pointless.

It's all about finances in the government, so I don't see why not :p.

Marriage isn't religious always. Many none religious people get married. Marriage is suppose to be the commitment to spend the rest of your life with your spouse.

    http://www.thefreedictionary.com/monogamy

Monogamy is the act of only having one sexual partner.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage

Marriage's roots are from religion, and were later adapted for whatever reason. Marriage is in no way logical, idealistic, or even necessary. Sounds a lot like religion, eh? :p.

Point is, you don't need to be married to someone to spend your life with them, or to only have sex with them. It's not required. Marriage is simply used in religious ceremonies, and for some random reason is accepted by the government (which it shouldn't be).

If its not directly causing anyone any harm then why not? i don't agree with it but i'm not going to stop someone from doing what makes them happy if it doesen't cause anyone any harm.

Exactly what Finn said, but if they are going to have kids, that's when the problem starts, as the baby has high chances of coming out with some sort of disability and that is very unfair to the baby.

    Marrying cousins.

As long as they are not directly related (I.E; being siblings, 1st cousins, etc), I see no problem with them getting married. I have a friend who I recently found out is a fifth cousin or something. I looked into it and found that we are only related because we share a great-great grandmother, and otherwise aren't related. As long as the family gene is somewhat... diluted, I don't see how there would be any risk of a genetic abnormality.

Ok, so what if it's a religious ceremony? It's not just some "HURR religious mumbo-jumbo," it's more of a way for a couple to be publicly recognized as a permanent couple.

You're an idiot. Get out of SFA and go back to your beloved 4chan.

If they are 1st cousins, If i'm correct, there children can have problems. Edgar Allen Poes story the Falling House of Usher is a good example.

Your an idiot, its like a 0.1 percent chance of them having deformaties, read the website its the same as a woman of age 40 having a child. Someone who smokes has a 20.4 percent chance. So we've cleared the possibility of it being deformed.

Why not first cousins? Your not giving a good reason why not to marry them, love has no limits.

No one has bothered to differentiate moral from legal.

    Should it be legal: yes
Is it moral: in most cases, probably not

The law should not enforce morality, only peace and property rights.
