I do not understand this

Two Factor Authentication User
What blade's suggesting isn't really feasible due to the nature of this site. Each section isn't as active as the next, it's not something like Reddit where you can mod a particular subreddit. There are other factors relevant to this, but irrelevant at current.

However, one thing I think that every staff member should be doing, is - to make an active effort in encouraging discussion throughout various subsections/being active past modlogs. This can simply be making a discussion topic and simply driving it forwards.

That used to be a thing. The new mod logs system really changed the nature of the staff team and everyone refuses to believe that or something. I've advocated for changes since we switched to it and they've never been done.

See:

Measuring activity is really annoying and the admins could use a lot of discretion when doing it and that would likely be a lot better. I don't think it is something can be hashed out in a thread like this. It's too much crap and shit.

Having single section mods is not a new idea. We have done Personal Support and SFA, etc in the past. I think it is a good system for at least some things.

Single section mods are more focused and if they enjoy the section they mod it's more likely they will put effort into the section. For super tiny sections there might not be a ton to do but whatever.

Also see:

I like robots because then I don't have to do it. The staff needs a diverse group of people who are allowed and can due to the support of their peers, to do whatever they find most interesting. If they really like getting a high mod score then let them. If they like posting in suggestions and dealing with the community, let them. If they like dealing with pardons, doing research, posting questions, etc, let them. There isn't a mold that the staff needs to force people into but they are right now.

Also see:

I love this post. I tried to do pardons but they take forever and give you like no mod logs unless you end up locking it so when I actually tried to get mod logs I felt like I was wasting my time doing pardons. That shouldn't be. I shouldn't have to be like fuck the system to do what should be done.

Also see:

Yea. I don't do them because I am shit at [Scammer Reports] and quite strongly dislike them but they are great for mod logs and thus if you want to live in the system you have to do them even though there is plenty of other important work you could do that just is not counted for anything.

Also @Roary (God I wish that worked):

What happened to:

Name
Date most recently Promoted
Total mod actions over past 6 months
Average actions since promotion
Average mod score since promotion
# of avatars changed (global only)
# of SL posts
# of disputes posted on since promotion
# of pardons posted on since promotion
# of scam reports posted on since promotion
# of spam reports posted on since promotion
# of posts in community general/town hall (combine both)
# of total posts (excl. spam forum) since promotion
I think that combination of statistics would give us a good indication of who's pulling their weight and who isn't

Also I'm going to replug:

I think there should be a much more clear distinction between upper staff and lower staff and much more flexibility in how moderators are allowed to work and I think there should always be a promotion track for them. I'm not sure exactly how thing would work but I am thinking that I would not be opposed to non-globals being allowed in the upper lounge. I like the idea of sectionals because it limits people and gives them structure to work within so they can easily focus. But then again I'm starting to sound like the team lead system and no one liked that.

I think that the big takeaway is flexibility. I keep coming back to the thought of removing not the permissions, but the rank of global moderator. Instead, replace it with something like senior staff. This would be for people like FireZ who have experience and wisdom and should be consulted for the most important things. The permissions for global could then just be given to people who need or want them, even if they are not senior staff. If someone wants to just be an off topic mod even though they are senior, let them. I don't care. If the staff wants to keep Sin666 around for advice or whatnot, she doesn't even need moderator permissions. Roary could have gotten global permissions for being a powerhouse without becoming senior staff. Separate permissions from experience and shit like that. Promote people to global based on experience and qualification and not on "well he does a lot and needs global to do more".

It does have an issue with banning permissions but I think that is solvable. Also there are numerous staff that came from the two lists of potentials in that thread.

Actually; the user was given an ultimatum. The period after he increased his activity and score. As this seemed to be an improvement, we let it pan out for another 2 week period and it was again, less.

Trust me when I say I keep a very close eye on people and give feedback when appropriate based on modscore AND presence. Your issue will be solved, as I promised it would be (to staff), when I post this terms modscores and make the changes I need to.

Ask the ones with the power to do it.

Currently I've requested modscore for posts on pardons in hopes to improve things there. But it's still to be done by those asked.

For a month though? I think that's a bit excessive. It's not like he's a Cas_M or Entrr, otherwise I would understand.

Still waits for Richards response

Edit: Leans no longer staff so uh... Awkward thread is awkward.

Demoting someone with zero forewarning isn't nice to do, even if their activity is bad.

Can't you just do it manually?

oh.. I was under the impression it was Admin lounge type decision. Looks like they took my ex-mod rank too....yay...
Fairly disappointing to look at the news thread and see myself below two members who are horridly inactive, after all the effort I've put into moderating.

Mistakes are bound to be made when someone is doing most of the paperwork(which I'm sure most of you agree he was). If others helped with the load maybe the mistakes could have been less severe. The mistakes made I still don't think were enough to warrant a demotion, but hey I know nothing, I've only been a member of this site for 10 years.

The part that bothers me is nobody really knows what needs done, or understands how much we do that isn't visible. As always, only failures have feedback threads created. There isn't often a thread about "Great job blade, you spent hours and found that vader's gaia online account from 8 years ago with his RL info and linked him to his HF account, which had scam history and blackhat." It's just another modscore. This is a true story btw, gottem!

For example, lets say I do 500 reports, and 5 of them were done incorrectly at my fault.

Let us, as well, consider moderator B does 50 reports, with one done incorrectly, at their fault.

To the public: "Blade is shit, he messed up 5x more reports this month than mod B."

:/

Exactly that's the point I was trying to make with my post.

Btw other staff members I'm not calling you out on your inactivity, you all seem to be doing well, I was just trying to make a point.

Well, currently no staff members remain who are failing consistantly so it's okay rn.

Blade made some rushed decisions but then again he did so much for the site and he knew what mods were lacking so he filled all of those spots. Good job blade also that infraction on me is invalid.. -.-.-.-
