How does Sythe not get shut down by Jagex?

I was told that Sythe is the largest marketplace for buying & selling gold and accounts. Seeing that's against Jagexs' rules, how is it that Sythe hasn't been shut down. I used to play RuneScape Private Servers & a few of them I played were shut down, you would think they would shut a place like this down.(not saying they should, just saying)

Are there other forums as large as sythe or is this the main website for buying/selling gold and accounts?

 

they cannot shut down forums. they can shut down private servers since most of them use their source/code without permission, atleast thats what i know about it.

 

maybe secretly they have accounts here to make some money on the side xD

 

Wouldn't surprise me. Jagex has to do shady shit. I feel like they could get rid of most of the bots if they wanted to but don't because half, maybe more, of their player base is bots & they would lose millions lol.

 

Jagex is dumb for making gold so expensive and for making your progress be able to disappear overnight by getting hacked. It's so hard to progress after getting cleaned unless you rwt.

 

That's why you just RWT lol. Gold is like .47 a mill, I don't know who the fuck would buy bonds if you're going to buy GP. I guess streamers and well known players do it but if you're just a regular player and buy bonds you're a weirdo lol.

Some players like to abide by the rules.
There is still a risk at being punished when buying/selling gold and some people would rather keep their account safe. but i agree with you.
i also dont get why people spend 5 hours to make a few mill when you could go work 5 hours Overtime at ur job and get 100x more with that money. even if you were to purchase bonds.

On another game you could buy 1m gold for $35 or 300k for in-app purchase of $99.

Surprisingly there was a few people with too much money that would rather spend 3x what they have to, to be "ethical"

There is just no point in shutting down Sythe.
RWT activity will happen either VIA goldselling websites, forums or discords.

There is likely zero legal merit to shut down Sythe as well. It's just a forums page. It's not a botting client and it's not a private server.

 

I would disagree with you here. Jagex had the legal capacity to shutdown websites in the past that facilitated the buying/selling of gold and accounts. So I don't see why they don't have the power to shut this site down as it does the same thing.

 

I'm fairly certain that Sythe has had lawyers or firms like Ukie knocking on their door with threats about suits or legal action. Starting an actual case or suit is expensive to say the least and has to be paid out of pocket most of the time. For Jagex the risk to reward ratio has to be good in order to proceed with legal action. Private servers are directly harming their company as Private servers use their game code without consent, thus it's an easy win. A forum like Sythe doesn't actually do anything wrong apart from being a gathering place for people who actually do wrong. Sythe itself doesn't sell anything and thus most likely wont be pursued.

Streamers and content creators "buy bonds"... no doubt in my mind most of them take that sweet promotion money that companies give them to buy GP, a couple bonds, and pocket the rest.

Sythe has been around since the beginning... Has a lot of legitimate services too..

At the end of the day Jagex is a business... And Sythe helps keep them in business.

 

Just because RWT is against the rules of RuneScape doesn't make it against the law.
The law doesn't care if people RWT in a game or not, hence why I say that there is likely no legal merit to shut down Sythe, let alone gold sites in my opinion.
Jagex can send out legal letters for RWTing but if tested in court I actually doubt Jagex would get a verdict in their favor.
I could be wrong but I just think there is a difference between that and botting sites that actually interfere with the game itself.

 

I mean, this is not universally true. The Netherlands counts digital/in-game currency that holds real world monetary value as a possession, which one can be charged for theft, in the instance of say a scam occurring. Granted, it's not directly a law, which prohibits the buying and selling of ingame currency, but you can get prosecuted for scamming someone, if there's enough proof, in the Netherlands.

I could be wrong, but I believe the reason why Jagex can't shutdown Sythe.org is due to where the servers are hosted, and the legal parameters in said country. Also, I believe that as sythe.org doesn't directly trade or facilitate any trades, it simply acts as a platform where individual users decide what and how to trade, it's safe from Jagex. Sythe.org doesn't directly endorse any trades. Richard confirmed something of the sort a while ago.

Laws are certainly different depending on jurisdiction.
