Let's first define the universe, and the implications of said definition.
The Universe: The totality of all existence.
This means that the Universe encompasses all of existence over the things that actually exist. This includes God, provided that he actually exists.
So, how did the totality of all existence, or in short, existence come to be? There are only 2 answers: existence had a beginning, or it is the case that existence had no beginning.
If existence had no beginning, then this implies that existence has always existed.
If existence had a beginning, this does not necessarily mean that something created existence.
Now, if existence had a beginning, it cannot be created by an existent (something that exists). This is due to the contradiction because if something where to create existence, it would imply that existence had already existed for the existent to create existence. Now, since God is considered an existent (something that exists), he cannot be the creator of existence, or, The Universe.
If we reject that existence had a beginning, then it means that the other alternative is that existence has always existed, which means that adding God into the equation is an extra complication.
As it stands, I don't believe in the existence of God because there is no empirical evidence that supports the existence of such a being. In addition, popular conceptions of God say this being has contradictory attributes which violate the law of non-contradiction, thus, these conceptions of God most certainly do not exist.
You have disproved God there. Religious people will refuse logic and reason to continue to believe in their fairy tale. Most of the people here either believe in God because
1. They were raised that way and/or
2. They are too ignorant to understand science
Yes there is GOD. I have one GOD only. He is the one who created the whole universe. He is the creator of all. My religion, we can't see him. He can see us.
I believe he is ONE, I believe doomsday will come, I believe Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h is the only Messenger of ALLAH, I believe Al-Qu'ran is the last holy book of Islam, I believe in all the Angels HE had created, I believe in fate.
Therefore I believe HE exist because he is the one who created all this, he owns everything. Dunia(This world) is just a temporary place where Akhirat(The Hereafter) is the permanent place.
I believe in some sort of "God" whether it be a Christian being or some other deity. So, Yes.
My reasoning on the subject may be a bit construed, feel free to criticize. I believe in an after life, because I have seen ghosts, or at least something that was not alive and not completely on this plane of existence. Call it what you will. Some might say that this doesn't prove God, only an after life for the one experiencing it, if that. Well if there is an afterlife, and I believe there is something of the sort, and rules and laws that the dead have to abide by something would have to put these rules and laws into place. That's where God comes into the picture.
In short, Yes I believe in God because I believe there is an afterlife with rules that the dead abide by, because he said so.
No, god doesn't exist i was an ex muslim.
Prayed for like 7 years 5 times a day.
Result: Nothing i achieved nothing
So god doesnt exist for me
Well, faith is the belief about things in reality without any evidence, or logical proof to support their claim. If everyone did this, there could be no advancement in society, for if the standard of proof for a claim to be true is no evidence, then anything could be true, contradictory things could be true, and there would be chaos. So, faith as the foundation of ones belief is not a good thing.Yes, I believe god exists.
It is funny, becuase the people trying to disprove god always end up saying rude things to people, all based on there religion.
Calling our beliefs a fairy tale, or saying we are too stupid to believe science is terrible, and you should be ashamed. What is so bad about having faith?
How do you know God exists though?I believe in god because I want to. Not because I was raised that way, or because I am too stupid to understand science, which I am not.
. Is God an actual entity? Also, your definition of God is very different from many other Christians around the world. How can we know your definition is the true definition?People saying things like if god exists why does cancer exist? Or why do bad things happen?
You don't understand what god is. God is a constant reminder in our life to do better, to be a better person. It is up to god to decide when and how people leave earth. It may seem wrong to you, it may seem like he should want us all to live forever, but he wants us with him in heaven. The earth is just a stepping stone on your way to heaven. If you do right, you believe god, and you are a genuinely good person, you go to heaven. If you do wrong, you are a terrible human being, and you disrespect people based on there beliefs then you go to hell. Simple as that
We believe in these things because they have undergone peer review. This means that they have been scrutinized by experts in the field that will shave off any, and all claims that are incorrect, or unsupported. Besides, there is proof for the existence of the Big Bang.It just seems funny to me how people can be so mean to people because they want to have faith and believe in god. Can someone please explain that to me? Its not like I am saying because you don't believe in god you are crazy, and you are being controlled by the media and scientists. Have you ever seen proof, or done experiments on any of the things you quoted? Have you witnessed the big bang, or found proof for it? No, you just read about it. Sort of like reading the bible. Isn't that weird?

Reading the bible however is not a good source of knowledge. You would need to show why the bible is a good source of knowledge. Can you?
What is so bad about having faith?

You can't, you have to trust what your peers said, you said it yourself. They could all be in a huge secret group however, that is bent on making everyone believe something that is false.
Now, I am not saying that is what is happening, I understand that it is not, and that would be ludicrous to believe. All I am saying is that the people in the bible are also our peers, and they all saw all of that stuff happen, so why can that not be true also?
Nothing is bad about faith per se; however, its possessors often seek to impose their own will upon their peers or make poor choices on other subject matters as a result of their prejudices.
Reading about an experiment that was done and replicated from reputable sources is entirely different than believing that a man who lived 2,000 years ago rose from the dead.
It's possible, but this line of thinking is entirely fruitless. I could hypothesize about similar scenarios ad infinitum, but this would never get me any closer to the truth.
Because the claims the Bible makes contradict everything else we know about the workings of the universe: the earth isn't 6,000 years old, there was never a worldwide flood, people's can't be born of virgins, people can't rise from the dead, etc. Why can't we trust the mythology of the ancient Greeks considering how much they knew about science, mathematics, and medicine?
For a debate that says 'Does God exist', don't you think 'I don't know' has little substance?I don't know god exists, I choose to believe that he does. That is my faith.
Ok.I didn't mean to say that the big bang did not happen, because I believe that it did. If you thought I meant that, I apologize.
Knowledge does not necessarily need to come from experience/the 5 senses. A priori is arguably the best source of knowledge IMO.What I meant is if YOU have never seen it through your own eyes, how can you say it is true?
You use reason/above.You can't, you have to trust what your peers said, you said it yourself.
It's possible, but this conspiracy theory has no evidence, and in accordance of Occam's Razor shouldn't be taken seriously because it is highly unlikely due to the superflous layers of complexity. They could all be in a huge secret group however, that is bent on making everyone believe something that is false.
How do you know the bible is non-fiction? Perhaps it was based on true events, but sensationalized and semi-fictional?Now, I am not saying that is what is happening, I understand that it is not, and that would be ludicrous to believe. All I am saying is that the people in the bible are also our peers, and they all saw all of that stuff happen, so why can that not be true also?
