Does Perfection exist?

Perfection, something that motivates people to be a better person? Or just something that makes people just a little bit more annoyed? Technically Perfection isn't actually a look,thing or target its just what some people see as having a six pack and lots of money.....

 

Precisely. As an example, a "perfect" boiler would be one in which the heat of combustion of fuel would entirely transfer to the water or steam, etc.. In reality, this is never the case and boilers are almost never very efficient. However, in designing a boiler you can strive to make it as perfect as possible, as in an industrial setting this can save the company thousands if not millions of dollars in fuel costs, not to mention environmentally damaging emissions.

It's something everyone should strive for, given the knowledge they will never reach it.

But, I also think that for something to be TRULY perfect, one has to acknowledge AND appreciate every IMPERFECTION!
For example, my girlfriend. I think she's perfect. I don't like certain things about her, but every single one of her imperfections are perfect to me.

 

It depends on how you view "perfection".

From dictionary.com, the definitions of "perfect" are:
1) Conforming absolutely to the description or definition of an ideal type
2) Excellent or complete beyond practical or theoretical improvement
or oxford dictionary:
1.1) Free from any flaw or defect in condition or quality; faultless
This suggests that "perfect" is something that is not achievable - something that is flawless, without fault, the best that it can be.
So, in this case - perfection doesn't exist.

However, others view "perfect" to be the best that can be achievable, and with this view, perfection can exist.

It all depends on how you view "perfection", everyone has their own standpoints and interpretation of "perfection".

 

Perfection, as all things, is a matter purely of perception.

 

The point at which one recognizes perfection is the point at which one gives up. The potential of anything should never be limited to "perfection"

 

People can be perfect for their imperfections. Thats my view on things.

Descartes states that the sole fact you are able to conceive the thought of perfection must imply such a thing exists.
It correlates to Hume's concept of Bundle Theory, the parts of every object or concept that may be derived to by thought is real and exists.
Descartes used this to prove the existence of God, referring to this "perfect being" as the one who planted the idea of perfection to begin with. If I can think of it, it must exist, or at least do its parts.
It's hard to explain without going into too much detail, but I'll give it a shot.
I have an idea of God, a perfect being.

There must be as much reality or perfection in the cause of any thing as in the effect.
This applies not only to the existence of ideas, but also to the reality of what they represent. Not only must the existence of the idea be explained, but also what it represents.

The idea of God represents something so perfect that I could not have been the cause of this idea.

Therefore, God must exist as the only possible cause of the perfection found in my idea of Him.

Then again these are all theories so whatever you want to infer from this is up to you.

I believe the concept of god is interchangeable in this theory, for something more realistic such as a mathematic truth or molecular stability.

 

People strive for perfection and receive excellence, at best. Roary's very first post summed it up nicely.

Anyways, my opinion is that perfection does exist by this definition: Something that is perfect is the quintessence of whatever it is you are describing (for example, the perfect crime, the perfect girlfriend, the perfect game). The easiest one to show an example of is pitching a perfect game in baseball, or bowling a perfect score. There is a limit, which is obtainable by one example, or multiple examples evenly.

 

God created all being perfect, humans, beasts and and all other things including plants, only the antichrist and beats in the endtimes are not, which kinda contradicts the antichrist being human, but if you can believe it he is like reptiliian for being the head of the abomination of desolation.

 

Everything being perfect contradicts the definition of perfection.

Perfection doesn't exist because it can't be measured or agreed upon by everyone. Everyone has a different meaning/criteria of perfection, which means that theres no way of having a single type of perfection. Everyone has different opinions.

 

So if something is not pre-set then it cannot exist?

 

Not exactly, what i'm trying to say is that perfection can be a very vague term in which everyone has different definitions of, which therefore makes it impossible to exist since none of us really shares a definition of perfection.

 

It does but I don't know any person who has no defects at all.

 

I think it is relative, just like happiness. No one has the absolute happiness. If it is perfect at that moment, it is perfect. Even there will be something better after that.

In my opinion, perfection only happens in your point of view. If you think a certain object or a person, has the full qualities that you were looking for, I can easily take that as perfection because it fulfills your expectations and what not.

In general, perfection doesn't exist. But it only exist in your mind/own perception. That is for me.
