Death penalty back to UK?

UK used to have the deat penalty but they got rid of it.

Personally I think this was a big mistake.

Brining the death penalty back could sotp over crowding in prisons, and lower the crime rate.

The death penatly is terrible in my opinion... Although if you give someone life in prison or more then 20 years in jail they usually die... So both ways your mostly screwed, but it should be a chioce for the convict to make.

 

But surely if your going to be put away for life, for lets say murder.

Wouldn't that just be a waste of government money?

 

We are at war spending billions of dollars... I doubt the government is worried about feeding me 3 cheap meals a day and suppling cable.

 

Death penalty should only be used in rare circumstances when the people had commited terrible crimes, like killing innocent children, and when they are 100% proven guilty with no chance of them been sentenced wrong.

 

My opinion on the death penalty changes frequently.

It's one of the many arguments I can't choose a permanent side with.

My current position is that it should be illegal indeed.

I sure hope it comes back. The death penalty offers revenge for those hurt.
And revenge is sweeter than almost anything.

 

Death penalty does not reduce crime, at least do some research before saying that.

And those against the death penalty, is it okay for hitler to stay in jail for life? how about saddam huseun and Osoma Bin Laden?

 

Trust me, if EVERY killer was sentenced to death, the rate would drop drastically. And I don't think it would be right for a mass murderer to stay in jail for life. To take a life, you must give a life.

 

Well, I dont think its moral for imperfects to determine the life of a person. To take a life, you must give a life. What if the person is inocent? What do you gain from taking that persons life? What if that person is mentally ill?

And I said the death penatly itself does not decrease the the crime rate. Why is austrailia and Canadas crime rate lower then the US? Why is it that in the 1960s that when california established the death penatly the crime rate doubled?

 

I think taking away the death penalty WAS a bad idea, though not for some crimes. At one time you could be killed for stealing bread, or so says my history teacher.
The death penalty should be used on people who have killed before on purpose. Car accidents can't really be helped. Destroying someone's life and family deserves repayment.

 

There's never any justification for the state to claim lives. It doesnt deter criminals because most of the people who are deemed "worthy" of the death penalty do things because theyre fucked up, like pedophiles or serial killers. The death penalty simply brutalises society and makes criminals who are committing offenses more desperate, taking greater measures to protect themselves from the law by for example carrying guns.

No way, if they break the law they should face the punishment of being crammed into an overcrowded prison. That is much worse than death, which is the reason inmate often attempt suicide.

In my opinion - many people just can live life. I regularly hear news of guys leaving prisons and recommiting - they should be killed.

He smashed some guy's skull by accident cos he was cheating on his gf. The guy healed and was ok,
Guess how many years? > 4.

Now - theres a bastard who rapes kids - how many years does he get?.. 1/2
Theres a crazy mass murderer - everyone knows he's guilty but theres not 100% evidence to link him to the last 10 kills.
He gets 20 years - comes out and recommits.

And mental people should die too.
A mental institution is disgusting IMO.

Just recently, (well not really recently anymore), an american soldier was given a 120 year sentence in prison.
I can't remember exactly what he did, and I can't seem to find the artical, however, he was in his 20's, joined the army, deprived of partys and what comes with partying, so his mates dragged him to rape some iraqi girl and her family or SOMETHING.

He just stood back and took guard, not wanting to join in - as a lot of you would do.
He got 120 years for mainly conspiring and allowing it to happen.

Where does the death penalty fit in?
THAT IS A DEATH PENALTY.

So when you guys say "yeh, they should have the death penalty" I just think of that poor lad who has never gotten to experience life, and never will.

However, there are special cases where, for the saftey of others, one will need to be killed - mainly when its for the greater good (if bobs killed noone will be be at risk)

But for arguments sake, lets discuss the death penalty in regards to having a good night, decide to drive home too wasted to know your drunk, you fuck up and kill someone.

In my opinion, every government is fucked up - even my own - and when someone does that wrong thing, don't throw them into a concrete box for ever, teach them a lesson so they can get on with life.

Btw, ill say this so I don't get flamed - I do believe that mass murderers, etc. Must be killed. Its for the security and comfort of everyone involved or that could potentially be involved.

No way, the death penalty should never be brought back to the UK. Jail is worse than death.

Imagine being locked in a cell for most of the day, on your own, nothing to do.

Also, mental institutions are nothing like you see in the films. The straight jackets are barely ever used.
