Minnesota has a new coach now and they've won all the games since they fired Mike Yeo. They have been super solid the last few games but we'll see how long that lasts for. They have the talent not sure if they can keep their package together though.

 

True; however, is this going to be a short run, or a longer run like what happened last year? In either regard, they still have to overcome their playoff hump, similar to the Blues, to be able to have a fighting chance. Not sure I see that happening realistically.

i would like to see minny in the playoffs. that 6-1 game was wild. i hope they go on to face the hawks in the playoffs and actually beat them for once. im fucking sick of the hawks winning every year.

@dunworry sort of a robbery I think, Leafs trading Nick Spaling and Polak to the Sharks for 2 2nd-round picks (2017+2018) and Raffi Torres, wasn't expecting to get more than a 5th rounder for Spaling, and Polak could at a stretch be worth a 2nd round pick

Not gonna lie, I'm kinda mad about that trade. I haven't seen either player much, so they could be decent players; however, two second rounders and torres for them? After the 41 game suspension torres needed to go, so that doesn't surprise me nor anger me. But TWO second rounders? eh... It at least sends a good message that management thinks the team can make the playoffs and advance past the first round. Surprising considering that year's results and this year's expected results (and start).

 

Leaf bros dont do what the Oilers did in the draft, i.e. pick zero defense and have awful player development. Be smart n lets get a cup back in Canada ehhh

 

Polak is a gritty player, will be a decent 3rd line D-man (especially seeing as I think you guys have issues there), Spaling will probably be a bottom-6 forward, wouldn't be surprised to see him shuffled back between the AHL and NHL.

honestly i feel as if things might finally be looking up, Lou is making some big moves and this is already so much better than the shitshow that was Brian Burke. With the Marlies tearing it up in the AHL, for the first time in a while i'm actually pretty excited for the next few years to come

Realistically, there is. But based on how Stamkos and Yzerman have handled it, I see they fully intend on re-signing him. Yzerman would be ridiculous to not sign if after the deadline passes. Stamkos is the kind of player you build a franchise around. To let him go for nothing would be a worse move than Wideman's hit (joking, but it would be a horrible move).

 

maybe bolts resign, see what they can sign him for, if it's not a value contract then they plan to ship him off. as long as he's not getting 10m a year im sure lots of teams would still give up the house for him. stevie y must really want another go at the cup this year.

 

I mean, the lightning supposedly offered him a multiyear 8.5/year contract. With that kind of offer on the table, I'm sure he can reach 9.5-10/year. And with Yzerman openly stating Stamkos will not be traded before the deadline... it kind of puts them in a pinch to resign him or be the laughing stock of the NHL for awhile

 

I was hoping Pk Subban to get traded to nashville or blackhawks, even edmonton could probably pick him up, I believe they have the money for him

 

I would suck the soul outta anything for PK Subban on the Edmonton blue line. Nurse could learn a ton from a guy like that

ya if they traded away PK everyone in Montreal would lose their shit. Through the tough times he was one of the only ones that stayed consistent, although they're still shit I feel as if PK is one of the only guys who still knows what he's doing.

Umm Stamkos becoming a leaf? More of a fantasy than a likely possibility I think, even if he doesn't resign I see him going to a lot of places other than toronto...but maybe he'll be enticed by the rebuild??? :O but I will admit it's fun to try and figure out lines and think of how good we'd be lol

 

The Stamkos talk is fun to think about. Edmonton GM says he's going to be making big moves this summer and moving big contract players (meaning likely Ebs, Nuge, Hall, or others). I'm pretty excited to see what happens as a result

 

They'd be insane to move Hall, he is a fantastic player. Him and McDavid can lead that franchise very well. Nugent I definitely see as expendable, however.

 

Don't get me wrong, Hall is one of the best wingers in the league playing on consistently the worst team in the league, but there are LOTS of really good wingers in the league. There aren't nearly as many good centremen. Most teams could only dream of having the center depth the Oilers currently have. Nuge has shown to be a premier two way top 6 centre who scores a decent 50~ points when healthy (and he's not even in his prime yet). Draisaitl is a big and mobile centremen with some serious offensive prowess who has 42 pts in 51 games playing on the Oilers at 20 years old... McDavid is McDavid.

Drai could easily be a first line winger with Nuge at centre and then place whoever you want on the other wing. 2nd line you play McDavid with Ebs (given he's kept) or anything who can keep up with him. That way, if McDavid or Nuge gets hurt again, we aren't totally SOL, and then in some instance gives you the option of attempting to run 3 strong scoring lines.

I love Hall but I think it'd be more valuable to keep Nuge, and I think Hall would fetch a better return (dman hopefully!)

 

Lets see edmonton oilers get another first pick, matthew or laine.

If Edmonton got the first overall pick...I wouldn't be shocked but more saddened. HOWEVER, it would definitely make things a lot more interesting on draft day.


Anyways, if they did win the lottery, they would almost 100% move the pick for a top 4 Dman. While this draft isn't necessarily the deepest, the top 5 picks are are all very, very talented. They wouldn't select Chychrun first overall because frankly, he's not worth it. Same with Bean and Juolevi. Trading back is a possibility but do Edmonton really need another project? Not really. There are no NHL ready Dmen in the draft.


Obviously RNH has been dangled to other teams and ultimately I think he'll get moved but is he enough for a bonafide, young, top 4 Dman? Probably not. Hamonic from the islanders is always a name that pops up but ultimately the Islanders want a Dman back which is going to be tough. Why would anyone trade a young, top 4 Dman for another young, top 4 Dman? It doesn't make any sense. The islanders are also fairly deep at center with a lot of their roster playing out of position on the wings because they have so many centers.


Lots of tasty possibilities. I hope my bolts move druin at the draft for a low/mid first rounder and a good Dman prospect personally. He forfeited being a year closer to the conclusion of his ELC by not playing this year so a guy with that potential, having another 2 years left on his ELC is a juicy trade piece.
