2015-2016 NHL Discussion Thread

Ehhhh. I think it's something a lot of us are definitely hoping for, and although it could very well be a possibility I'm not holding my breath. (the hometown narrative certainly doesn't help kill the hype, though)

Adding a potential 35 or 40 goal scorer to our team is something we really need atm. There's no "superstar" we can build our pieces around - Phaneuf is our captain and not to discredit him as he works hard on the ice but he's just not that sort of player. Komarov will eventually regress as the scoring pace he's on is unsustainable.

Hopefully if we get him it's after this season during free agency. I'd hate to give up some key prospects for him, I just don't think it's worth that much.

 

I think he is worth that tbh. Stamkos is like Pavelski. Waves of hot streaks, but a very talented player capable of making players around him that much better.

 

What an all-star weekend, incredibly fun to watch compared to the others Glad John Scott took the entire thing so well and everyone seemed to really be supporting him, including the players, and some teams' social media accounts for what it's worth (when it was announced that Scott wouldn't be on the ballot for all-star MVP they all started tweeting out #VoteMVPScott) Any of you guys manage to catch it?

I know it's still a very long shot but with the shitty pacific division coming into play and McDavid's return you can't help but think maybe, just maybe they still have a shot lol. I'll hold off on actually saying anything about it until I see them play teams that aren't Columbus though.

As for the Oilers... I just don't see them making a comeback. Sure McDavid is incredible, but they still don't have much of a defense nor a solid and steady goaltender.

Yeah..That must have been a new record at least for something, possibly the youngest player to get 5 points in a game in the modern era of NHL?

 

Last rookie to do it apparently was Nugent-Hopkins 5 years ago in his rookie season. A 5 assist night

although with the lineup we put out I wasn't expecting too much either

actually quite happy with the Phaneuf trade, trading off a shitty long-term contract for shitty short-term contracts worth the same amount means that essentially we get rid of those $7m five years earlier

 

How do you feel about that trade? I've heard Leafs fans are buzzing about the Stamkos rumors, thinking the leafs are going to go all in for him if he doesn't get re-signed

 

Panarin is going to be rookie of the year as he is leading in points by 20, if he continues like this he will be a clear winner.

 

Oh definitely. But if McDavid never got injured, do you think he would be leading the race?

 

Most likely. Without the injuries I see McDavid at 60-70 points as he has 25 points in just 21 games. So he would definitely be somewhere in that range I'd assume. I guess we'll have to wait for next season to see his full potential (as of now), will be interesting if oilers get another 1st round pick.

They got the offense they just need better goalies/defensemen.

 

Trap hockey is honestly killing the sport. i go to the oil vs ducks game, ducks play trap hockey and it's a boring game. im now going to the oil vs minny game and it'll just be more lame ass trap hockey.

 

What do you mean by trap hockey? I kind of have an idea, but I'm curious as to specifically what you mean
