Y'all need some more mods

It is not a needless job. I think I have made that clear. If not, I will try to explain more.

My intentions are that there is a lack of staff and I posted a thread about it before and that helped so I thought I'd do it again.

 

Those are essentials. Are you saying those are not beneficial to the growth of this site?

 

They're not essential for the forum to be a forum. But they better the site. So does increasing moderator activity.

also , i think a mod needs to post at least 5+ times a day beside a scam/spam/dispute . mods are for the community i think mods need to interact with everyone they are just part of the community also and just giving them a job and then making them change is bad in my eyes . ghast , what country are you from ?? maybe i do not understand but I do not think you understand what people do ask you ?? your answer is not clear answer ever ?

that is because he has a big heart ! and a big pride he was rude and mean but i agree with most of his posts . he was right in many ways and was a smart guy if he was nicer and did admit he did like his position i think he would be a good mod

 

wasn't much for me to do with games section in a moderator position, and if i can only make modscore via rasc, whats the point? i tried to post on every pardon/dispute, but the simple fact is my time comes before moderating.


plus there was a ton of people who were absolutly butthurt over how i obtained mod, its prob for le best im not le staff.

 

Only give mod to the people who want it. Then they might be more active.

 

Those updates were needed to the development of the site, making it more modern. Wants are usually demands that don't suffice a problem.

It's obvious that users want to be promoted, I can understand that, but there just isn't a need atm.

The only problem is pardons, and you can easily decrease the amount of supports needed to accommodate the amount of staff.

We let scammers back on a daily to weekly basis so it doesn't really matter. Kappa

 

I wouldn't consider myself a candidate for staff, I try to help improve the site but I couldn't be bothered trying to maintain my schedule on top of moderating. I agree with you though there are a lot of candidates but the one sided thinking some people were trying to bring to the staff team is going to ruin the site.

When I was staff there was a lot of diversity and everyone thought differently, even though there was disagreements people weren't afraid to speak out and everyone's points were taken into consideration, a lot of staff have come up with the excuse "I don't need to explain myself because of the position I am in on the forums," when I was staff we would always try to give a reason as to why someone or a suggestion was getting denied but recently it's just been "trust my judgement, I'm a senior member to you". Ever since the whole banning spree by both sythe and n4n0 last year everyone has been afraid to speak out. This thread shows what people are thinking and how people do want to help improve the site. This issue would have come up a lot earlier if people weren't afraid to speak their minds.

The elitism promoted between staff and members has made a large communication gap and the staff team has become a team of friends ruling over sythe rather than a community trying to improve the forum. I really think the sticky in the spam forum regarding zero-tolerance should be removed because all it is doing is promoting staff to do what they want without receiving any negative feedback. While I was staff I don't remember there being such a large cultural difference between staff and members probably due to the fact we used to work with negative feedback rather than attempt to hide it.

 

Let's be honest delta, it wasn't just score that was the problem lol. All you'd have to do is like.. 5 spam reports and 5 rasc reports in 2 weeks.. Can't have all the easy going stuff and not do any of the work side.

 

At the moment it seems that the staff thinks only moderation and reports are essential. Everything else is optional. I do not agree with that.

 

That's exactly the point I'm trying to make. Some people posting in this thread are too concerned about "l0lz no one even posts in gfx/gaming/support" etc. Having more moderators spreads out the workload in the rasc section, and gives the moderators more time to actually focus on their section/real lives.

 

there was maybe 2 spam reports for my section in those 2 week periods? and like i said, i don't want to do rasc, if i don't want to do something im not going to.


but also like i said, i could match the score of any global if i wanted, i did so in my first week on mod having 5 times my required quota. but also like i stated my personal time comes before being a mod.

edit- also i will not change my attitude because of my ranking or someone else ranking, thats just silly. the whole alpha male staff syndrome needs to stop.

 

We're kind of going round in circles now, I want to get some sort of plan of attack out of this thread at least. The input definitely has planted some seeds.

Instead of bickering about what staff do and don't do, and who's a good mod and who isn't.. let's base our discussion on ways to move forward.

 

I'm glad that you noticed the user-staff divide. I believe that Farcast can also confirm it. I never noticed how black and white it was until I left staff for the first time. It's really hard for the staff to not to simply say that the users need to trust them and stuff like that. It comes with the group think, and team attitude and obviously the secrets that the staff have to keep. It is something that a lot of staff could work on understanding better.

 

The thread is moving extremely fast and I am actually in a meeting so I am trying to pay attention to that too. I think it is important to go in circles for awhile so that everyone gets their word in and no one feels left out. The air needs to be let out.

 

Without going off topic and attacking individuals for not being good mods, would be helpful, that's all.

 

well as it stands now most mods don't have a opinion of their own, they will wait for another mod to make a post on a pardon etc first, then just agree with them, and then with someone with a very strong opinion is around they don't know how to act.


Thats another reason i have never wanted to be mod, as my attitude/opinions just don't mix well with spineless cowards.

 

List of ways to move forward:

1. Unban everyone in the N4N0 situation.
2. Lower the amount of supports needed in pardons.
3. Depending on the activity of the section you're moderating, quotas should be matched so that moderators aren't forced to get mod score.

 

I can someone agree with the alpha male status but I think that would change if the activity measuring system changed.
