Y'all need some more mods

Unless there's something being done incorrectly because the current staff cannot handle it, then I don't see why new moderators are necessary. If anything, the site's activity has dropped so it's at a good level.

 

What I've been doing occsionally is giving every member of staff some feedback when modscores are posted. I could turn this in to a regular thing and have a look through each members posting activity in depth like # of posts in the pardon and community section in general, activity in their designated section (if implemented) and excuse lower scores where activity justifies it.

I think that might be a good start.

 

You should read the whole thread. There's more than just doing stuff incorrectly or spam reports.

 

I don't see the need for more moderators.

Graphics section is dead.
Gaming section is dead. (There was nothing for delta to moderate there)
Support is covered by globals and admins consistently.

 

It would certainly be better but I think that the whole system should be scrapped and something better built back in its place. It could certainly include mod logs (old and new) and staff lounge posting, and pardons, and etc but I'd rather nuke that shit and rebuild than try and fix something.

 

Sectionals can help promote activity. The sections may just be dead because of problems in the section that a sectional may notice and bring to attention. If you find people who really like those sections then they don't care if they only have a small amount of moderation since they can do more community and activity building shit.

I found this in the Admin Lounge but nothing was done with it. I did reply and ask and PM and ask but to no reply.

Something more thorough like this, I like. But definitely alongside how modscore is calculated.

 

Just like moonglare did? Yeah, that is nonsense. You can't bring activity by trying to force it. If it's active, then great, if not, tough luck.

You can create an ecosystem that helps build activity.

 

posts in ones section should be added imho.

Games section for example, one can't promote said section if you are busy trying to hunt down shit to moderate so you can meet quota.

Granted my own personal gaming addiction comes before any sort of moderating.

This is true. Especially for something like the graphics section where it takes someone who actively enjoys that part of the community and are willing help promote it. Spraynwipe was that guy, Alt was that guy, and even some of the new people have done a decent job. When Kina sucked the right dicks and got mod he turned the section from something community based to market based and it has went down hill ever since. I gave up on it some time ago. But there are people who love the section as much as I did, and I think they could breathe life into it.

It makes sense for there to be more globals than sectionals. Like I mentioned, look at the dead forums. Why would you want sectionals to cover it when globals can do it with ease? There isn't much activity going on that will pile up causing uproar.

Instead of promoting users that will force their mod score, let's focus on creating a bigger community that will make these sections active. Where to start? Let's unban everyone involved in the N4N0 situation.

 

Great point. There should also be more than just number. Quality of contribution and other factors should be used. Sin666 is a great asset and she was allowed to stay on staff forever since no one wanted to remove her. So there should be some subjective analysis as well.

 

Went ahead and skimmed through the discussion. I don't understand how it added anything useful. All I got from it is maybe we should demote some global moderators to sectionals instead so they can better focus on sections in need.

 

Seriously... on a site that was gradually degrading activity-wise, whose bright idea was it to ban some of the most active users on the site because somebody's feelings got hurt...

 

I think that globals generally will have different things to do than moderating specific forums. Sectionals will be better since they will check their forums daily and more often if they love posting there. I think that is more beneficial and I don't think there is much downside to having more mods.

There is certainly a lot of stuff that can be done to help the community but I don't think it is really relevant in this discussion.

 

you are looking at it from a standpoint of just handling reports like a mindless zombie, and not so much of being community active while being in a moderator position.

 

Just modscore shouldn't be thrown on the back burner. Everyone does need to get some kind of score because it is annoying on the ones who do the bulk of the reports and such.

Another thing I think is incentivising being staff. I put a poll up with varying questions to try and think about how best to motivate staff and get the activity back up but it's a hard thing to do.



Not many have a problem with the modscore system so I dont think it needs to be dismantled.
