I know you hate the modscore thing but to be fair it is a lot lower than it was when I was first promoted. Which is good but no modscores would be too lax IMO. I dont score-whore any more, god ;_;.

I have thought about different methods of doing things. It is easy to say make mods be active or show them the door (not score activity) but I cant see it happening and then what? Demote the team of staff and start anew? Not very practical I'm sure you'll agree.

The one method I was most keen on would be designating a mod to a section in their area. I.e. runescape 3, runescape 07, media, games.. and having that sections rules, activity, updates/changes and so on be down to them. I've just been too busy to draft a thread and ask for input. It does annoy me and always has, when you know someone's staff and never see them outside of reports.

What do you guys think is the best way to manage & 'police' mod activity?

the two weeks mod score is rather rubbish, you can't have it based on reports alone, games section required 25 per the two weeks, okay, my first week i was getting over 100+ but as things died down i push around what was it 16 of the required 25?

with how many of those being section related reports, maybe 2, 3 tops?
Granted you may games section is dead, but the job of the moderators imho isn't to just mindlessly meet quota, one has to partake in their section, and help build the community which is rarely seen, infact the only community building being done is by CDT... WHICH you left because you got no respect for putting time into it.


Mod scores don't need to be publicly displayed for all staff to see, all it because is a cockstroke for some who want to stay at the top, if a mod din't meet quota just pm them and ask why. Honestly if i wanted i could have easily surpassed global scores with my dead section, but rasc is boring.


Needless say, stop the whole we are behind the scenes thing, because you arn't, you don't code, you don't have server access, all you are roary is a face to the people, thats it, you have no technical skills.

We don't need people like frenzy on staff who do nothing but reports, yet isn't even involved in the site, sure you can robot spam reports and all that but if you arn't aware of whats going on in the site as a whole how can one even vote on peoples pardons accurately?

Hell even josh i believe it was has pointed out time or two during pardons that you guys have missed information, which made people change votes, even i have done this with a pardon or two.




long story short, there is no behind the scenes, stahp being robots, get community involved REGARDLESS IF SOMEONE GIVETHANKS OR NOT, and stop pussies.

Measuring activity is really annoying and the admins could use a lot of discretion when doing it and that would likely be a lot better. I don't think it is something can be hashed out in a thread like this. It's too much crap and shit.

Having single section mods is not a new idea. We have done Personal Support and SFA, etc in the past. I think it is a good system for at least some things.

 

I left being the leader of CDT mostly because I'm busier IRL. I'll still advise/help when needed, I'm not turning a blind eye at all - I care about the community.

I know I'm not technically skilled, I didn't ask to be Admin but I was appointed as a general Admin. I've never once said I do any of that kind of stuff. I handle all the Admin requests when there is some and do long standing reports or weigh in on them and general stuff like that. I've never claimed to do more than I do. But what I will say I do is try and improve what I can with the abilities I do have. Not all admins have to be coders.

The problem is that there aren't enoigh actively coding Admins, yes, but that doesn't mean that's the only kind of Admin there should be. Govind leaving was bad, especially when he would've gotten server access sooner rather than later. There needs to be more technical work being done but thats up to Rich and Matt to address

 

I like robots because then I don't have to do it. The staff needs a diverse group of people who are allowed and can due to the support of their peers, to do whatever they find most interesting. If they really like getting a high mod score then let them. If they like posting in suggestions and dealing with the community, let them. If they like dealing with pardons, doing research, posting questions, etc, let them. There isn't a mold that the staff needs to force people into but they are right now.

also, punjabi is dead on, the current staff focuses their energy on policing not improving, and that's why the current staff has more globals than sectionals.

I could agree to this is nicer words. But I'm also down for a user group that does shit with the assistance of the staff. Give community members that are not staff something to do that is actually important and can get stuff done.

 

What you're going to want for mod isn't another ex scammer that happens to have befriended certain admins and globals. You want an objective, trustworthy person that cares about this site and its community. You want someone who has handled countless amounts of trades. I trust this guy with my life.

Syed would be a great mod. All of his life has been leading up to this moment

 

@Delta, I will agree that staff tend to run from pardons because to truly respond to a pardon request you need to spend a good amount of time researching everything. And at times we do miss stuff.

I also am not a fan of the mod log system because I can go two weeks and still reach quota. Also, the mod system has no incentives for voting on pardons or helping users as been pointed out but it still helps to have something versus nothing. But I'll fully agree I must stay more active and now I will make sure that happens

I love this post. I tried to do pardons but they take forever and give you like no mod logs unless you end up locking it so when I actually tried to get mod logs I felt like I was wasting my time doing pardons. That shouldn't be. I shouldn't have to be like fuck the system to do what should be done.

 

true, i myself loathe rasc, yet because of my section thats the only real place i could get modscore at, i don't mind handle disputes/pardons and spam reports, but rasc is just a waste of my time, but without it, i cant meet my required modscore its a catch 22.

 

I would sign up for handling pardons and helping users. I'm a firm believer that dispute shouldn't be handled by the same person that ban you. Hence why I stay out of the dispute forum but love the pardon forum. Also scammers are so scummy if I head into that forum I feel like I need a shower.

 

Yea. I don't do them because I am shit at them and quite strongly dislike them but they are great for mod logs and thus if you want to live in the system you have to do them even though there is plenty of other important work you could do that just is not counted for anything.

 

I think that the person who banned them should look at it first for any errors. If they don't think there are errors they should post reasoning behind the ban and someone else should come in any see if there is anything else fishy that the person missed. That makes them much easier to catch basic errors and more complex ones with some added accountability.
