Y'all need some more mods

What do you mean for sticky rules?

 

So they are essentially mods who don't deal with reports and such. Their main goal is to bring activity and focus on the specific sections.

I don't because it doesn't solve any of the underlying problems.

 

It solves the problem of inactivity and dedicated mods.

 

Which underlying problems are those SuF?

 

Sticky rules like umm.. what can/can't be posted there, what proof you need to post and so on. Within reason, obviously. And like any new mod they'd probably go to their sectional/a global and double check it was cool.

It does solve some of the problem. The problem is the mods at current aren't the most active. But we do need people doing the report work. So empowering users who're active in their favourite/most frequented sections brings the activity that the team is lacking.

 

Roary can you provide a few examples of sections that would get these types of mods.

 

Let's just say for example -

The sports section is made and you become a subsection sports mod.

You'd

Manage the stickies
Try your best to increase activity through creating new threads, constructive posts, etc.
Maybe host an event or two related to that section such as a fantasy league/work with CDT to start up a fantasy league that you can help lead/participate in.
Just try to increase general activity, enforce some rules, maybe think of new possible sections, rule changes, etc.

Then come to anyone on staff if you need something formal done such as maybe having a section made or the changing of a rule, etc.

So they are basically there to support the globals who may not have the time to be active around the forum?

 

More like they act as sectionals except don't need to worry about handling reports and are mainly dedicated towards improving community involvement/general activity of their section.

 

I think this has been answered more than enough in the entire thread. Specifically for these fake mods how are you going to measure performance? Activity?

I never asked to change sectional rules but if you require that how is anything ever going to get done? What is being proposed is essentially HUE minus actually being a mod and since the staff hardly do anything than reports they will likely also never work with the fake mods you propose. You still have all the problems facing the staff except with what is essentially a band aid and cop out so the staff doesn't have to do it.

Aka nearly exactly what I proposed for the UE that was denied not all that long ago.

I don't think people need to be staff for this.

I do all that and more for the LoL section. I made all the stickies, I made all the rules, I suggested the new sections, I run the competitions and so on. It doesn't require me to have any perks or perms. The only thing Staff do for me that I cant, is deleting verified posts, adding verified tags and adding the verified minirank.

Splitting the staff into two more groups is not a good idea. Most of the community have agreed that it isn't, but ultimately the decisions is yours.

Simply put, promote new sectionals who have the drive to be active and care for the community. Let them do what needs to be done. Don't demote anyone. Don't split the staff up. Just promote new candidates as and when you see fit.

I can see why the current Staff are for having a new, less authoritarian staff position introduced. But in all honesty, it's not a good idea. Read mine and other' explanations of why. I'm going to stop saying it's not a good idea now xd, as I've send it plenty. Decision is yours.

 

Interestingly enough, if I recall correctly, I was the one to really push for (and start) the first round of modlogs. The process evolved of course, but perhaps I was wrong. In a community such as this, things have to get done, and the market aspect adds another level of complexity, but I'd much rather have mods that are focused on being regular users. I'd rather have a larger group of staff who do less work than a small number doing all the work.

 

They have limited permission. They have limited voice and access. They are "people who've almost passed but there are slight issues with would then get a chance to be on staff and maybe prove themselves somewhat, that they can perform and so on." They are replaceable.

You've reduced them in value. They can't real mods. They are not good enough to be real mods. You said so yourself. Promoting them would be insulting.

• It allows for more names to be considered and takes any concerns from some staff's minds that's been stopping certain people getting promoted and allowing them to show they can handle the role well

Without giving that ease of mind, the same people will always end up getting no's in polls. And that can't really be helped if some people have legitimate concerns about said person. So there isn't just "promote lots of new mods" because the choice of 'em is very small currently. This is a compromise for both those users and staff.

They are NORMALLY doing this without any sort of rank/staff. All we'd be doing is empowering them so they can do things without having to ask.

 

I agree with you on this SuF. I don't think it's a bad idea to have fresh new faces amongst the staff team, but not this way.

 

So how exactly are these fake mods going to fit in?

You just admitted that the sectionals should be doing it. Why do we need fake staff to do what the sectionals should be doing already?
