Thoughts on Prostitution?

It's actually legal to sell unsolicited sex in Canada. (You can't stand on the street corner asking passerby if they want some).

I would never pay someone for sex. I don't see the value in paying someone for their attention. If you really want to pay for it then it should be up to you. It's a great easy income for the seller.

You can't really stop lazy and stupid people from selling their bodies for easy money but there will always be a market so it may as well be regulated.

The problem with prostitution, at present, is not the idea of paying for sex. That, in itself, is at an absolute maximum, an issue of morals, and I am of the opinion that the government should not be the bureau of morality. Morality is something ingrained into children during their socialisation process, and to interfere with that (when parents, for the most part, are perfectly capable of doing so) serves only to cause conflict between people of opposing views on an issue that barely affects their lives.

The issue with prostitution, much like drugs, is the black market surrounding it due to its legality. By forcing such a huge industry (with legitimate applications, such as caring for physical/mental invalids) into the shadows like it has been in much of Western society, we are forcing it into the realm of drug abuse, slavery, violence and other crime that is often associated with prostitution (especially in third world countries).

The solution, frankly, is to regulate. One can make their own moral judgement on the industry, and they are free to do so. One, however, should not be able to force their principles onto the entirety of a country purely because they have a certain view towards the issue.

People who feel that the sex industry has no legitimate purpose should refer to this video. It's a stand up video from an Australian guy (prostitution is legal in brothels here in most of Australia, if not all), and goes into pretty fair detail.

Should be allowed/legalized in my opinion but with some rules like protection to prevent others to get STD's.

 

I feel like there should be an age requirement, but it shouldn't be illegal.

What....? Sorry but I don't really understand that.

People must wear a condom or the paid sex is illegal? Is someone going to sit in there and watch them to make sure they have a protection device on? I may be misunderstanding you but that just will not work and doesn't make much sense.

I do agree that this is something that should be monitored but I'm not sure I like the idea of government running this, maybe something else like a new branch of companies.

 

I dont remember what I voted but it shouldnt be legalised. There are tons of aids, hiv and veneral diseases nowadays, bitches without any morals shouldn't have chance to earn that big sums of money basing on men sexual desire

 

Which would be reduced if the sex trade was legal and regulated. People who be safe and able to get the help they need.

I am all for prostitution but it has to be executed in a safe and mutual way. It should be ran like an official business with:

- taxes
- W2's
- Pay stubs
- Background checks (same procedure as any other business would do, not looking for them to have TS security clearances haha.)
- Monthly/bi monthly STD tests of your employees (whatever is deemed necessary)


For patrons:
- Some sort of filing system with that specific patrons information like:
STD tests
Background check



My mentality thinking about your question is that this "official business" would be ran more as an "up scale" establishment. Up scale in the sense of not being a completely sketchy hole in the wall building with haggered girls/guys ready to fuck.
I'm also thinking that this establishment would definitely have repeat customers and regulars...which would make a filing system way more feasible.
Maybe incorporate some form of member sign up...Ya know, kinda like those whole sale clubs like "BJ's (pun totally intended), Costco, Sams Club, etc. . .
Make it so the customers have to re-up their membership every like 2 months at which point when that happens they have to get another STD test?

If you're saying that prostitutes that get raped can't easily seek justice through the courts, then that's entirely a manifestation of the laws prohibiting prostitution.

I don't see much wrong with a voluntary transaction between two consenting parties.

The laws prohibiting prostitution cause more problems than they propose to solve for many reasons, one of which being there are no problems with prostitution to solve in the first place!

It doesn't really matter whether prostitution is immoral or not. The law should not have any business in regulating nor enforcing morality. If you do not like the industry, don't participate in it. If you do not like the people participating in it, then don't associate with them. Do not point guns at them and say 'I don't like what you're doing so I'll lock you up if you continue to do it'. That moral line of thought is reserved for three year olds.

 

EVeryone has to make money somehow. And i dont mean that in a bad way, just some people have a tough life.

 

I believe that prostitution should be legalized, taxed, and regulated to ensure that you wont get an STD or end up with a dude when you order a girl.
I am however AGAINST sex slavery which often times is thrown into the same category as prostitution. Prostitution is defined as two people consenting to sex in exchange for money, however most prostitutes are now, victims of human trafficking, and unless society begins to accept and educate itself on the truths and horrors that is human trafficking, those individuals arrested for prostitution are frequently prosecuted as criminals rather than being viewed as innocent victims. So yes you should be able to do whatever the fuck you want to do with your own body but being forced to do something such as sex against your will after being taken from your home should be targeted more effectively by the government that is supposedly here to protect us.

It doesn't bother me, although it makes the streets look untidy when they're walking about in their slutty 'outfits'

On the other hand, it would bother me if I found a close friend/family/relative was to do it, i'd be pretty pissed.

I had a college debate on this subject and I was PRO PROSTITUTION

I gave better arguments overall yet the audience voted ANTI, seems no one will listen to the arguments because of stigmatization

1) Belle Knox - Duke University student who used porn to fund tuition, gets scolded, beaten, and ridiculed for doing whatever to fund an overpriced college tuition

2) We grow up to believe we can become whatever we can, yet no one thinks about being employed as a gas station employee. People are willing to treat jobs like gas stations employees similar to prostitution, with the thoughts of "I would never be one of them"

3) Prostitution saves Towns - Towns around Las Vegas in Nevada use prostitution to save the towns because of the dead stores all around, the main revenue comes from the brothels; if the brothels were not there, areas such as Lyon County would be depleted.

One anti argument used was a parent would not want to be told that prostitution that is being taxed is helping fund a school that their child is attending to which the pro side replied by stating, "If you are willing to take more money away from schools by a stigmatization, shouldnt I say that I do not want the tax money used from casinos and alcohol because I am against it?"

EDIT: There has been research done by brothel owners with statements that have been proven saying, "16 years of being a Nevada brothel owner [with regulations and regularly testings; 1 week for stds and 1 month for HIV)], there has been 0 cases of HIV infections"

All it needs is proper regulations and everything should be good. I can see the reason for people being opposed to such a thing, given the context.

 

In Germany it's legal and they treat it like a business. Prostitutes that work for a company are regularly tested and you are required to use a condom. It is taxed and is looked at like any other business. There is nothing wrong with prostitution if it is handled correctly
