Regarding the right to vanish

I think this is a bad policy. Preserving evidence doesn't always come above all else. It should be a case by case thing.

There are plenty of valid reasons someone would request a piece of content to be removed. And plenty of reasons why you might not be able to access the site.

I've been banned for being added to a skype group. What if that stuck and years later my personal information was attached to false scam reports? You can try and explain away my example, but I can think of hundreds more.

This. What if someones life was at risk? Someones families?

Perhaps he had used an email in 2009 which has his personal info linked. What if there's some bad guy tracking him down, blackmailing him and he's trying to fight against time?

That's exactly a good reason for why a certain level of discretion would be nice.

I've been posting a lot about how unfair this policy is to people who are innocent like myself. I haven't touched this website for 5 years and only made 2 trades with the site, both of which were done properly.

I'm really confused as to why they are so fixated on this policy being non-negotiable when there easily are many cases of innocent people. This policy is completely "We don't care about helping people who didn't do anything wrong".

In my case I just have my personal email that was on a closed thread which is the first search result you get by googling my email address. I've asked multiple times as to why they can't make my email a spoiler on the thread so that it just doesn't pop up on Google but my email still is in the database of Sythe if they really need it.

The sad thing about my situation is that it seems that I won't be granted this favor as I feel that me expressing the injustice I feel rubs the administrators off the wrong way. I wish they could put themselves in my shoes and understand that I haven't touched Runescape for 5 years and am just asking to have email removed or hid from Google for personal privacy. I'm still going to fight for it though.

But staff said they WON'T assist him.

Thing is, that one email will hurt him someday. Someone will start hacking his stuff, and end up owning everything this person owns.

Later if he thinks he didn't get something he wants, he might blackmail this person for let's say his PayPal security questions. Or RuneScape bank pin.

And sometimes those threats carry out of your screen and to the real life.

I would understand if the policy was somehow similar to what the post states, but with round edges.
"If you believe the information will hurt you, convince us. And we might press that one button."

If a forum has this strict policy with hackers, it should also have a strict policy of defending it's users.

How can you call me on scamming someone when I scammed no one? Did you not read into my situation properly?

The thread I posted 5 years ago was of me trying to sell a Blue Dragon Mask for market price. I don't even have a good memory but if the guy who replied to my thread was correct he apparently told me that no one will buy my mask at market price unless I pay them real money. I apparently replied with "Go buy it at G.E min then if you won't buy it from me" and he said that he did that. I then looked into my other posts on that account and found that I ended paying someone to buy my Blue Dragon Mask as that guy suggested to me. The thread ended up being closed because it was useless at that point and because of that I could no longer edit the post to remove my email.

How am I at all being malicious, how at all am I trying to hide something from anyone on this website? What does anyone on Sythe have to gain with knowing my person email address? And what's wrong with putting my email as a spoiler so that you can still see the email attached to my old self-banned account? I don't believe he was calling you a scammer specifically. Just giving you two ways on possibilities of why people want their old information removed.

And not a single staff member has still answered the reason why they can't make my email a spoiler, or move my thread to admins only, or what anyone actually gains in knowing my email that was from a post 5 years ago (where I never scammed anyone)? And how does this policy at all stop someone from scamming if that person just ends up being a completely new person. If I created a Sythe.org account called BowerSales and the email was [email protected], no one will know that 5 years ago I was Rodalero and I would be able to essentially be a brand-new person who could try scamming people. So why does my personal email need to be associated publicly with my old self-banned account?

These are questions that I have been constantly asking for several days now and still haven't gotten even close to an answer. Why is it difficult or inconvenient for them to answer them for me? I tried to personally contact Govind about the matter where I typed over 1000 words spread out among multiple messages and all he replied to me with was 2 messages; 1 referencing this thread and the other telling me that he's not obliged to answer why the policy is this way. Of course he's not obliged to help me, I'm just asking as a human being to another human being to help me out with privacy in my personal life that takes almost no time at all.

I wish I could just have them imagine what it is like to be in my shoes right now. Never scammed anyone on this website, only ever had 8 posts on the account 5 years ago. Never played Runescape since then so I actually hardly know anything about the game right now. What is someone in my shoes supposed to do to get his email removed from the thread 5 years ago?

I believe he meant, you providing a convincing argument, in which staff would assist you.

There are a lot of reasons why polices are made in general. They have not made it just to stop you from removing your email from a thread. This isn't some type of vendetta against you.

If it is that important, that you repeat yourself in every single post you make to express how concerned you are. My biggest suggestion to you is to make a new one, solely for the job application. Yes it may be a nuisance, but for the mean-time it is better then trying to force removal of your life on Sythe. When you signed up to Sythe, this was the policy that was in place and you accepted it when signing up. If in the long-run the staff review current suggestions regarding said issues, and feel like it would be acceptable to remove personal information from Sythe, it would be on case-by-case (most likely). Then you can have the chance to try and get yours removed. But it's not going to happen at the moment solely, because you're asking for it.

That does not mean you're a bad person, or have done anything bad for them having a reason as to why its not being removed. It's simply a policy. You yourself just said "what anyone actually gains in knowing (your) email". Why would your job application differ, this is simply a forums connected to on-line games, where you did things when you was a child. You have grown up and the job you're applying too would know that you've grown up.

It sucks but there are other things you can do in the mean-time, if your Job application is important to you.

Okay, let me educate you a little bit on background checks. They check everything, any social media, they come to your house and look through your computer, they see everything related to you. I have an actual professional email but the email I use for 90% of my things online is with the one I included in this thread. Almost all of my accounts on other websites have that email. They will easily come across it and look into it. I simply want my email to not be related with RS.

And I really don't like how you're telling me that I'm trying to force remove my life on Sythe. Do you not realize that none of this whole thing would even exist if 5 years ago I actually had some intelligence and used a different email on MSN when I tried to communicate with people for trades. I'm willing to change the current email I have on that thread with another one that I currently use for other things online that I normally would have done in this case if I'd known better.

And the main reason why I don't understand why it can't be done is because it's 1 thread with 1 email there. It's not like I have my email on multiple closed threads, it's just 1 thread where nothing wrong was done. So my "life on Sythe" is one personal email relating to a thread where I tried to make a trade, really? I actually had other posts on this website where I had my email but I was able to edit it. So the only reason that the thread was closed, not allowing me to edit it was because the thread was useless at that point. If they would just un-close the thread and let me edit it that would work too, but there was nothing malicious or sneaky that was the reason for the thread to be closed in the first place. That's why this is upsetting, because nothing bad was done and the thread was closed.

And you say that I just keep repeating myself, but I just cannot understand why staff are refusing to answer the questions I said before let alone anyone answer them. I'll only stick with this one question if that makes it easier:
Why can my email not be edited to be a spoiler on the thread?

You are all better off just posting in my feedback thread in the feedback forum.

As for your spoiler request, I think it would still show up in Google search anyway. Perhaps making the thread as a whole only viewable to logged in users would be better, as your employer or whatever isn't going to have an account to view things on here.

Because it deters new users and potential customers. I personally have seen sites like those that when searching on google but don't let you read the content without signing up. I have never signed up on one of those sites. A lot of gold traders sell a lot of gold to people that aren't registered on Sythe or have logged in once or twice. A customer wants to buy gold, just go to the seller's site or add their skype on their thread. I've dabbled into the gold trading business briefly, and there have been times where I have suggested that I PM the user to verify it's me, and they reply with could you just post on your thread or edit this post. All those become useless, it loses a gold traders a lot of traffic and potential customers by doing so.
