we are thinking there may be a "scenarios" part of the application in which users are asked "how would you deal with [xxx situation that mods commonly have to deal with]?" and making applications public would allow users to reference each other's applications to address what would be arguably the most important part of the application

otherwise i don't see a problem with this but i'm also not sure why this info would be pertinent to other users. are you just curious as to who else has applied or is there some other reason to push for this that im overlooking? @SuF

Unless they provide real life details like where they work and issues they've faced at work and handled....I would prefer mine to remain private

I just like transparency and saw no reason for them to be private. The community might have some valid things to say about people as well. The questions are an interesting idea but could we also just teach new moderators how to handle things and focus on promoting people that can be trusted and aren't going to be power mad?

There could be a happy medium though, maybe the parts super have outlined can be public and made Sythe specific, where other parts of the application can remain private

Everything doesn't need to be public just for the sake of transparency. Are your job applications put out for everyone to see?

Support. There should be transparency. The only people who don't want transparency are those that don't want to be accountable to the community. Cis scum.

Well, if we're going to start comparing to real life, scam reports shouldn't be public either. Those kinds of things are kept private between law enforcement and the individual.

Reports and applications for a position are two different things. Police reports are kept private for the safety of the person issuing the report. I don't think anyone is at risk by reporting someone on an online forum.

Court proceedings are public record unless a judge is convinced there is good cause to seal them.

    Comparing apples to oranges.

As a member of the public do you get to see police officers applications?

I am not comparing apples to oranges because I was responding to someone talking about scam reports. What you are asking is completely different.

I see the staff as a political position not as an employment position so I think the community should be able to vet them as well as the staff. I also do not see a reason why police applications should not be public as it would give more accountability to the public for the people that were hired to serve them.

The court is not law enforcement. Police records are not part of the court system.

Scam reports are effectively the police record and the court record but I don't think relating this to the real world is really all the helpful.

Theft reports are not court record. I don't know where you're getting this information from, but it's wrong. I pointed it out because you responded with something irrelevant to Admires' analogy.

Comparing this to real life dealings helps illustrate the senselessness of this suggestion.

If the person is prosecuted it will become public record during the trial. Scam reports are both a police report and a trial so it makes sense they are public record. The analogies really don't work very well regardless.
