Moderator applications now open!

Fuck that shit, it's time for a riot then. I was about to apply for sure, but I ain't got time to wait for January 17, 2018. I dedicate alot of my time to Sythe right now and would love to dedicate myself more, right now. God knows what I'm up to in 2018. I demand an exception.

 

Lol'd. They set a requirement, you aren't special or anything that you'd get an exception, and just because you committed yourself to this site for a few months, it doesn't make you better than others. Many people have committed themselves to the site for over 2 years, and if that's something they're looking for, you're gonna have to wait. Sure 2 years seems steep, a year would probably make more sense/be better, but ultimately its up to the staff. A few months of activity doesn't instantly make you moderating material, js.

 

Your right and it was not my intention to disrepect any of those who have been around for over 2 years. It is however a pity as I would've loved to dedicate myself more.

 

This requirement was challenged and discussed by multiple staff members, with figures ranging from 6 months to 2 years. Post count and donor requirements were mentioned/proposed as well, but were thrown out for obvious reasons. Regarding your question, the 2 year minimum was requested and finalized by Sythe, most likely for a couple reasons.

• The field of 2+ year active members on Sythe apsiring to become a forum moderator can be identified.
• Ban evaders on the site will have a more difficult time finding their way into the team (somewhat related to your pseudo-indicator).
• Moderator applications are being released for the first time and having more strict requirements will help the current staff ease into the new system.
• The requirement can always be reduced in time once staff become comfortable with the system or if we are in need of more candidates.

There are many reasons which support the 2 year minimum being put in place. Furthermore, I think it would be silly to have a 6 month to 1 year requirement and increasing it over time.

I'd ask you let the current system run for a while until we it can be assessed / re-evaluated. This is something completely new for everyone and know that we plan to change it over time. I wanted to write something up so we could move forward with the process, as I felt it will help rewrite itself over time.

 

Have we decided if applications are public or not?

 

I'm excited to see how this pans out. Whether it works or fails, I'm happy to see the staff team testing new approaches.

There are people like @Shall Skill, @Grave, and @hattez (just to name a few) that have been here ages. They all have dedicated time and effort and I believe they should have first dibs. The site appreciates your dedication, and I hope you get recognized for it when the time comes.

The requirement says..

but says nothing about "2+ years active member".

I.E. (just as an example)
I registered in 2012; yet I actively participated on this account since July/Aug 2015.

myself as example. registered in 2012 = I'm eligible.
Only participated in forums for 1 year = not 2 years of activity.

It's either registered for 2 years, or its activity of 2 years, or both?
This needs to be clarified if it is both.

Fair enough, I know nothing comes from judging a system before it's had time to run its course. I just know that with these strict requirements many people who have been promoted in the past would have never been eligible under this new system. Just scrolling through a few pages of news threads we see that two members who have been administrators / are administrators wouldn't have even met these requirements at the time of their initial promotions (Dave / Roary).

I agree that now we have plenty of candidates who fit the bill, but I hope that the requirement is lightened up in the future. I'm excited to hopefully see Sythe branch out and attract new users who have different interests through the efforts of the PR / Tech Core / CDT. These users (hopefully) are going to become attached to the site similarly to how Kiro, Cas, Superfluous, SellerMan, etc. did and promote discussion within their favorite sections. Allowing them to moderate the sections that they best know will help promote discussion and keep the forums looking clean and appealing as they know the ins and outs of their section(s).

(srry to pick on u boys in this post, you all were on the site for fewer than 2 years before being promoted and I think you all did a great job, just wanted to try and make a point)

 

@FlyingToast truth be told a large portion of staff pushed to just get this released and run them as trials and work out errors as we go along. What you're saying about some of these requirements are absolutely correct and a lot of staff even agree with you, but for safety and security Richard wants the requirements above.

We've all agreed to allow things to run their course and we're going to troubleshoot as we go along, it just seems like the best option at the moment. Though I do want to reiterate that what you're saying is correct and we're aware of it but due to the nature of things this is just the best way to tackle it .

 

Why was the decision made to make applications now? Why not just promote more people?

 

Over time I do hope you set the join date requirements lower. Doesn't hurt to allow people to apply but vote against them because of their join date.

Also hope staff keep hand picking people and offer places to those who deserve them (without them having to apply).

 

The nature of the movement of the site. Things are changing and that's how Richard wants to move forward, there's not really anything else to it.

 

Bad idea. People will shine and appear from their actions not from words that he/she can write in 1-3 hours to make the resume look more appealing and "earn the trust" of all.

Honestly, I'm new, but people like @Wortel @Buyacc @Yousuckv2 [I need to be @Sebastv2] they earned this throughout the reporting they've made.. I mean holy god, 5k reports? That's dedication. That's someone respected that cares about something. Those guys, to me are actually invisible/hidden moderators.. They actually dig deep to get the bad ones. They just lack the color/powers.
