I think it wasnt rape if she gave him consent but if there was no consent then it should be definately counted as rape.

Um uh...10 years in prison is far to much...it should've just been a fine or something. Besides, who cares if they're young, they were happy about it. The law needs to stop acting like everything is their business. And besides, that's one year under 18, I'm sure she's mature enough.

Yes it is fair. The 17 year old male should have thought of the consequences before acting upon anything. It is his fault for having sex with a 15 year old, who is a minor. He knew the outcomes, and he could have dated or have a girlfriend the same age as him - to have sex with or whatever. This is considered as rape. More specifically, statutory rape. This is one of the 'crimes' that people can get high penalities for.

I believe this law exists to prevent adults taking advantage of minors. Some of the adults manipulate their 'younger' boy/girlfriends into having sex. Parents are very protective of their children, so if they have any evidence against their children's boy/girlfriends, they will file a lawsuit. It is also a good way to make money for them too...I suppose. Also, one of the main reason is most teenage girls gets abortion, and parents don't really appreciate that. It does not matter if the minor individual who the adult had sex with enjoyed it or not, it is still considered as statutory rape. Most people define 'rape' as 'forcing someone to have sex with you'. There are other definitions of rape, depending on what type it is.

In some regions of the world, 17 is considered as an adult.
Even though if they are both minors, if it involves an underage girl compared to the guy, it is still statutory rape.
It's hard to fight the law, the law is always against you...so better take the consequences that are offered than to take it to court, because it'll just get worse.

 

Thats why you do it in Canada legal age for sex there is 14.

It depends on what country you are from.

In Canada:

14 to consent to anyone over 18
12 to consent to anyone under 18
and a similar age clause.

 

And that's when you take it to supreme court and change the law.

 

Yes but STATUATORY rape is different and it is true... If you have sex with an underage person and they tell their parents or something you can get screwed over for it... Whether they consent or not...
