Does God exist?

It is a theory, but not a scientific theory due to a lack of basis. It is more of a hypothesis. And even then it isn't even a scientific hypothesis (at this time).

But that also holds true to the opposite, since it is also untestable in science except for our limited observations.
But being untestable doesn't prove either point, no matter how you want to rationalize it.

Unlikely, yes. Proven, no.

Legitimate arguments like what? Maybe you'd like to make your point clear instead of just saying "leave".

Erm there's no evidence for one, as it is based on stories.

Religion is faith based, ignoring knowledge (if you have mixed beliefs that's you, but religion is just that.) so it never has a chance to make a valid argument as it revolves around only questions providing no answers in an infinite loop. The idea of a God existence is almost the same but more specific, but arguing over the existence of God is still as strong as arguing about a religion. Meaning its pointless as there's nothing to provide evidence for.

So obviously this thread is simply a collection of opinions. If you want to argue about it, you lost before you started.

There's plenty of possibilities, yes a God existing is one (improbable one) but its like the poor obsessed gambler hoping on that one possibility (no matter how small the chances) telling everyone else off that tells him its not plausible, chances are he bets wrong.

The same goes for religions.

Ultimately your sayings God's existence can't be proved because one can't prove otherwise. That's not rational, logical, or sane.

Hence why I used this same picture before, arguments for God us the same logic. No logic.

I am too uneducated to properly defend my answer and I do not want to say anything that may be incorrect but I can say that 2 years ago I started reading the Qur'an, the book in which Muslims believe is the book of God.
When I read the first page of this book, it was indisputable to me the fact that God does exist due to the way it touched my heart. Also, there is not a single fault or contradiction in the Qur'an, which has factually been proven by science. Not that it needs to be because if you look into it, the Qur'an actually proved many scientific facts which have only recently been discovered.

BTW: Anyone wants to put quote tags around this and call me stupid/foolish or whatever, just send me a pm so we can discuss in private.

 

I will reply more in detail on the substantive matter however there are hundreds of verses in the Qur'an which contradict each other and/or the laws of logic.

Aquino said that if one of a pair of contraries were to be infinite, the other would be completely destroyed. However, in the word "God" is included the notion that God is an infinite good. If there were a god, then there would be no evil to be found. But there is evil to be found in the world. Therefore there is no god.

I do not believe there is a god, however I am inclined to lean towards Deism.

 

The only way a contradiction would be found in the Qur'an would be due to bad translation. If you read the Qur'an in Arabic, it has no contradictions. Out of interest please find me 1 contradiction/fault. If you can do this, I will send you $100 via paypal. You have my word on that.

Also, the Qur'an explains the reasons behind Evil being in the world.

 

Mohamed descending to heaven on a winged horse is a scientific and logical contradiction.

The book could be flawless or without contradiction but that does not in any way prove that it's true. Harry Potter doesn't have contradictions.

 

Good cannot exist without evil. They're both relative, subjective terms.

When people talk about infinity, none of their claims can be absolutely true, because we haven't even experienced infinity yet ("actual infinity", as Aristotle would put it).

If we were to take what Aquino said as true, then many other philosophical notions (which are widely accepted) would have to be thrown out. A good example is Ludwig Feuerbach's theory that humans have infinite consciousness - however, if infinite consciousness exists, then that means that no-consciousness must not exist. We know that's not the case, so according to Aquino, the entire basis of most of Feuerbach's claims against religion would be rendered false.

That's probably the better choice (in my opinion).

You are taking things out of context. It doesn't mean literally, for you to understand concepts of this you must be able to read in the Arabic language.

If it is not known, religion/God is usually placed in as a universal truth simply because it is not known.

 

What a basic, yet knowledgeable answer. When one asks themselves these kinds of questions is when they often do they come across what I have came across.

It's sad but I truly only believe in God just in the case he does exist. There has to be a creator for us all, or atleast an unexpected phenomenon.

I wasn't talking about the christian "god" either.

It'd be the only real argument in the thread. This topic simply can't be debated objectively since there is no evidence at all. Maybe it'd be better off in another section? I thought this forum was about debate.

But until you can prove otherwise, it still remains a possibility, which is the point.

Please think before you speak. I'm not saying a god exists at all. I'm just saying as a scientist that I simply can't dismiss something as proven false when nothing has been proven.
