[DENIED] Approved anti-scam thread

Concept is simple

A thread with a summary (pending) approved anti scams

Easier to track rather than digging trough the current archive & likely will increase odds of funds being recovered for scam victims

 

I support this. Would be helpful.

Although staff usually post on the users DNT'd reason url at the bottom of the thread explaining the anti-scam. But I like your idea nonetheless.

Username, debt, relevant information
No scrolling, searching or reading
An easy way for traders to see who owes what

I think it would benefit people in some sense, for me at least it shows justified handling of funds being given back to the correct people. I get from a scammers point of view they would probably be like "yeah well they have just scammed me in return, fighting fire with fire there" but this is completely different imo.

Okay. Basically we would leave hidden until anti-scam was successful recovered, and then it could be made public? So it would just serve as a ledger?

firstly, i don't understand how come you have to "approve" to anti-scam.

last time a big scammer came to purchase gold from me and i wanted to anti-scam him to return his stolen stuff to the community and i got no reply for days from admins, there is only so much time you have to do the anti-scam.

opening a thread, waiting for a mod reply to approve it otherwise you get banned?
how about you invite the scammer for tea to your house as well while you wait for a response?

Agreed. Last time, I worked 5 days with an alt to lure the user who scammed me. Once I got him, had to jump through many hoops to get an anti-scam approval before partnering with a trusted merchant here. Suffice to say, the anti-scam failed because it took a while between my lure and approval which might have tipped off the scammer (as it was a public post requesting anti-scam approval)

My recommendation is a thread listing out publicly:
- Scammer Profile (Sythe / Discord) , etc
- Debt owed

If anyone tries to anti-scam the scammer for the said debt, it can go ahead without approval as long as the anti-scam is limited to debt owed and is returned to the community.

 

Why would you not have reached out to a staff member within the first five days of your extensive lure? I’ve been part of many anti scams over the years, and none of them took days to get a reply on.

I can understand why anti-scams require approval. Otherwise, you’d have people who are completely untrustworthy trying to make citizen arrests in the name of the “greater good.” In theory, this could be abused. I don’t love it, but I see the logic. Not sure there’s an optimal way to handle.

If an anti scam requires admin approval, then I do agree with virt. Globals should also be empowered to make a yes/no decision on the spot so that anti scams have a higher chance of success. This would still serve as a gate keep for bad actors.

 

Makes sense in theory. In practice, knowing people are actively trying to anti-scam you may scare you away such that any potential anti-scam wouldn't happen. Think I lean no support on this.
