The request came last week and was made to Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. Irving has expressed that he wants to go play in a situation where he can be a more focal point and no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James, sources said.

    From the ESPN article.

That wouldn't make sense to me though because LeBron made him better overall in these past 3 years. He's grown a lot mentally.

I think he knows if he plays with LeBron he will always be remembered as a second fiddle. Lots of players with egos don't like that.

OKC was garbage last year. They only added Paul George but Kawhi basically negates him. Also RW does not play as well against the Spurs. As for Houston, CP3 has never gone to the WCF and I don't see that happening now.

Also the Spurs are one of Kyrie's preferred teams so I think things are only going up from here.

Preferred but they have zero assets to trade them. I don't see him going to the Spurs and he wants to be the "focus", that isn't happening with Kawhi there.

    Zero assets? That's laughable.

Also kawhi has nothing to do with it. He said he would prefer going there I'm not sure what else you need.

Please tell me what assets they have. No one wants an Aldridge or a Gay or their late 1st round picks when there are teams with plenty more to offer.

I don't blame Kyrie for leaving if it's because he wanted a bigger role. He was always gonna be second to LeBron in Cleveland. For him, the Knicks seem like the best place to play. Big market, shit team, but the Knicks stupidly signed a 70m contract to Tim Hardaway Jr. I have no idea which team would even think about taking that. I don't see him going to San Antonio. He will take a backseat to Kawhi and he just doesn't coexist with their play style.

Sounds like this. There was a post a while ago about how a reporter asked him a question like "How much of a father figure does Lebron play in the locker room" and he (rightfully) seemed super ticked off by it, answered with something like "I have one father, Drederick Irving"

That's not the only instance but the narrative in the media in general is like Lebron and co.

Would love to see him on the Knicks he would be a perennial MVP candidate and the market would boost him to another level financially and popularity wise.

Completely agree with you that if he wants to be the face of the franchise then New York, or Miami are the best options (although I'm not sure why he'd want to go to Miami). Minnesota, and San Antonio he'll be a backseat as you said to Kawhi, or Towns / Butler. On a side note though, that contract was so dumb, but it's the Knicks what did you expect?

It wasn't that dumb, it was overrated because the Knicks did it. if any other team gave a 25 year old who was averaging around 18 ppg the last three months in a career year no one would bat an eye. The fact that he was an ex-Knick played to the narrative as well.

Derrick Rose for only 2m? The fk? I know he has injury problems but that is a steal and a half.

Derrick Rose as a backup pg is still pretty damn good. If Kyrie leaves, I assume whoever they get in return will be a starter replacement.

I think they're gonna start him tbh and don't expect Kyrie to be back for the start of the season.

They've already decided that Rose will be the backup PG, not starter.
