2015-2016 NHL Discussion Thread

Keep in mind, you'll see the Stars, Canadiens, and other elite teams play like shit some nights. Some nights just the team doesn't mesh, and the simply can't get things going. I've learned that lesson with the Sharks. They'll be on a tear for a 6-0-0 road trip, and then all of a sudden forget how to pass the very next game lol..

 

It sort of picked up for the leafs after the first period. Sparks looked decent, would hope he can be a solid #2 guy once Reimer is back.

 

Yeah that's unfortunate for Reimer, he was doing real well for awhile there. Seems like injuries tend to happen to players doing well or on a streak, which is odd. Regardless, I feel like this will be a similar situation to the Shark's AHL goaltender: Troy Grosenick. He was called up and had like a 40 save shutout in his debut. His next two games he gave up like 3 or 4 goals on 10 shots, and that was the end of that.

 

Winnipeg made him look a lot more average. I was only able to catch the first period then the game highlights, but he still made some decent saves.

Also, now the Oilers beat the Bruins who are coming off a 5 game win streak. I just don't get it.

 

I imagine Sparks is probably pretty good, but it's tough to play in front of the Leafs. I saw at least 3 of those goals were easily preventable, but their defense just sucked so bad. So you can't blame it all on Sparks.

Hahaha. I remember when he played for San Jose for a season. I was so stoked seeing a 6'9" body joining the lineup; however, I was quite disappointed when I actually saw him play. He didn't use his body whatsoever. He half-assed his hits, which was frustrating to see. Apparently he was quite popular in the locker room, but he just didn't quite play well on the ice. He could have been a far more effective player I feel.

 

Honestly I don't see him that much and don't have a very strong impression of him. From what I've heard, he seems to be a grit player and while definitely one of the weaker skaters/shooters in the league, has a definite physical presence on the ice. Interesting that what you're saying contradicts that (though I'm not disputing the validity of what you're saying as I've never personally watched a game where he's played, other than the highlight of that shorthanded goal with the Sharks )

 

The all star game is a total joke anyway

 

Yeah, it is. Just fun to see some cool plays is all. Especially the challenges, aside from the game itself. Those are pretty exciting. All in all it's fun to see some of the best talent come together and see who the true stars are.

 

Yeah I feel bad for anyone that pays real money to see the game itself, where goalies turn around and try to stop breakaways with the reflection off the glass. Although I don't agree with the MLB format where the winner gets home field advantage in the World Series, perhaps something a sort of compromise could be struck so that the players....you know...actually try during the game...

 

Eh. I think it's better if they don't try. You don't want them getting injured before the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Would be a shame if that happened, so it's best if they just casually mess around. Those who pay to see the event know exactly what they're getting. It's more of an event for die hard fans.

Holy shit. Heartbreaking news. At 36 it was almost gonna be about time, but to end it like this isn't what anybody had in mind.

 

Yeah, just read that on my way back from class. Sad to see, but that's the risk you accept when you play professional sports, namely one like Hockey that is so taxing on the body.

 

Shit, eh. At least he had a long and awesome 15 season NHL career. Like you kind of said, can't really ask for much more at that point. Hope he keeps in good health and enjoys his retirement with all his millions, lol

 

Yeah, the penguins are still paying this year of his salary even though he is done. That is a nice gesture that they're not worrying about money, but only his health. Good to see that. #FaithRestored

I wish :'( the TV on my campus doesn't have CSN-CA, which is the channel the game is broadcasted on. And the online streams are crummy. Plus i got a final to study for tm lol >.<

 

Shit, eh. It's been a pretty decent game so far. Your sharks sure play with some intensity despite it being a back to back game for them. Lots of hits.

The game isn't showing here either, and yeah the streams are pretty poor quality but eh well.

 

I mean, the sharks are also 1-5-0 for their past 6 and 0-4-0 in their past four lol. I'm sure the oilers, no offense, are the last team they want to lose to, to add to their streak.
