2015-2016 NHL Discussion Thread

Out of technicality yeah, but we all know the teams we can eliminate. But I'm definitely impressed with the Oilers, they'll be great a couple years down. One team that surprised me is the Sabres, who pulled above .500 for a short bit there. I did not expect that in the least bit.

 

Malkin has been a human highlight reel recently. Wow.

 

That top one is insane, that was yesterday right? He's been carrying the penguins for sure. I have a 10$ bet on the sharks v penguins game on Tuesday, go sharks!

Yeah, shame. Malkin has been something else this season, but the real all star is Kane. 18 game point streak? Are you kidding me? This guy is insane. He is unstoppable, I can't even fathom that. He is on track for a 120 point season, which is unheard of nowadays.

No doubt that he's having a stellar season but keeping up the production would be the true indication of a Hart-worthy performance

 

I mean he is no doubt in contention for it. Breaking records for a point streak definitely gives you consideration, at the very least. Even if he slows down, Benn, Seguin, and any other potential contenders will be hard pressed to catch up.

 

A record is nice, but I think for the hart consistency is key. A slump in the middle/later part of the season would definitely push him out of the spot imo.

Also, the voters seem to love the narrative - so a captain that brings his team to the cup finals or something may have a higher chance with similar numbers than Kane who's hawks get eliminated in the first round in 5, for example.

 

What's going on this year that there seems to be so much more scoring? I bet we're going to see Seguin, Benn and Kane all pass 100 points this year given none of them get injured.

 

Actually, this year scoring is at an all time low. Not exactly sure on the numbers, but that is the reason why they're considering making the nets wider / the goalie equipment smaller. I guess those 3 are just raising above the pack.

Y'all sure? Feels like every game I watch there's at least 5 goals scored and games are ending 4-1 or 3-2 all the time, when last year felt like every game was like 2-1...

Check the recent stats. It's roughly the same, but slightly lower this year, following a trend of less goals per game and a higher save percentage for goalies. It's not the lowest it has ever been, but it's getting there trend-wise.

 

Huh. I must be just watching all the high scoring games then. Lol.

 

Probably Some great games, but takes a few days and look at the overall scores. You'll see plenty of 2-1 games there.

Good lord the Oilers looked pathetic tonight. Why do I have to be a fan of them? What have I honestly done to deserve this?

 

bro...im a leafs fan and I was disappointed even.

at one point like halfway through the first shots were 1-1 and score was 1-0 leafs. just a pathetic display of hockey overall tonight.

 

You sound surprised, that has been the case of more than half of their games over the course of the past few years.

I didn't watch the game, but a 3-0 score with a shutout for Sparks, seemed like they held their own, at the least.

 

That's why I am surprised. They played tonight like they played the last few years. Despite their record, they've been competing hard in most games and a lot of losses could be accounted to bad luck (injuries plaguing the team, big goals being called back) rather than getting flat out outplayed like has been the cas all the previous years. That game though, that was just bad.
