Leafs are guaranteed a bottom 2 finish now with that loss to the Blue Jackets. I guess I should feel happy but fuck getting blown out 5-1 by Columbus is never a good feeling. An Oilers win/a Leafs regulation loss would clinch last place, sucks how they changed the lottery this year but hey it is what it is, 30th seed would mean we can't fall below 4th pick which would be nice. And I snagged a few marlies playoffs tickets which should be a fun atmosphere too

How can edmonton be so bad with so many 1st picks..

 

AHL defense, mainly

out of the 6 defense men that started last night for the Oil, all of them except Sekera have been in the AHL this season (Pardy also hasn't been, but he was scratched for all but 22 games this year). Everyone likes to joke about the Leafs practically being the Marlies, but all year the Oilers blue line has been a revolving door of farm team defense men so it may as well be the Edmonton Oilers Forwards and Goal featuring the Bakersfield Condors defense

you don't generally win NHL games with that. sure we have good forwards, but again if our d can't stop opponent cycles in the dzone, or make good breakout passes, or be able to keep the puck in the ozone, hard for your stars to make any offense.

 

edmonton has a pretty high % in getting the first pick again, 6th time in 8 years pls?

Lucky you lol. Atm I think it'll be Philly and Boston in the playoffs (Red wings' last game is vs. the Rangers and Boston has their last against Ottawa, while Philly is down 1 point but has a game in hand). Either way it'll come down to the wire, fuck the Bruins so I'm hoping for the Flyers and the Wings to make it Also would like to see the Wings' playoff streak keep up as well

 

boston. marchard is so hot this season. he's gunna tear up the playoffs.

 

He has cooled down recently, so I don't think he'll be on an offense tear (assuming they make it in)

 

Tied for 5th for goals scored this year. You're right he's cooled down, but the guy has some real fire in his game. Usually steps it up in the playoffs. Will be cool to see if they do make it in.

 

Possibly yeah. I'm really looking forward to 1-2 years from now when the Oilers make the playoffs and get some real forward to play with McDavid (Hall?) I can't wait to see that.

 

I haven't had much time to pay attention to this season. What I can say though is wow about the Panthers lol. A few seasons ago I remember they were bottom of the league.

 

Yeah. Trading to get Luongo and Jagr were probably one of the best trades in the past few years, out of every team. They definitely hit gold with those two.

 

Sharks vs Kings first round... I'm a little worried. Anyone else hyped for the playoffs tho ?

 

Pretty disappointing to see Washington rest Holtby when he could have gone for the record but it's understandable.

Interest this year in the playoffs for me is gonna be near 0 with no Canadian teams, will probably check highlight reels and cheer a bit for the Caps since Winnik got traded there and ofc watch the SCF but not really that hyped lol.

April 30th is the draft lottery though, looking forward to that! ;D

 

Yeah. Sad to see Price getting injured twice and being limited to just 12 games. After the monster year he had last year, it would have been great to see what eh could have accomplished this year. And yeah, Holtby tired Martin Brodeur's record, but imo he beat it. Brodeur was 48-23-7, whereas Holtby was 48-9-7 (a far superior record).

EDIT: Patrik Laine just scored his 9th goal in 11 playoff games, that means he has officially broken the rookie record for most goals scored during playoffs in the Finnish Elite League.

 

I'd put McLeod 5th at the very highest, Laine has been heating up but I don't think he's on Matthews' level just yet. Chychrun has definitely fallen off from where he was at the beginning of this NHL season where some were putting him 3rd lol. Puljujarvi with a much deserved 4th, I think last draft had him at 6th or 7th (correct me if I'm wrong). Except for the top 3-5ish picks it'll come down to what the team needs so the rankings can only show you so much. Seeing all the Finnish talent on there in retrospect its no wonder they won the Juniors this year

 

Excited for the start of NHL playoffs today. Being from Houston there's no one team I am cheering for (no Houston NHL team). I personally like the Capitals, Kings, Blues, Preds and Sharks. I personally dislike the Stars, Red Wings, Rangers, and Ducks. Regardless of the result, I'm excited for some good hockey.

 

Strong performance by the Penguins after the slow start to the 1st they had. Zatkoff looked pretty strong. Tbh, I had the Rangers in my bracket, but I'm not too sure about that choice now
