Is time travel possible?

What evidence (or lack thereof) do you have to support your claim? You'd be surprised what we can do with our knowledge of physics nowadays.

Our world would be SO screwed up if people from the future could come back in time and change events. I mean if Republicans and Democrats can't come to an agreement on a solution to the economy, how could they come to a conclusion to go back in time and kill Hitler? One side would argue it would save the lives of so many people, but others would say that technology advanced because of the pressures of war.

 

No, i don't think so. Though i've always been fascinated J.W. Dunne's theory on precognition and what not. The idea of past, present, and future all existing simultaneously.

Any reason as to why you think that? Every post that I've seen you make you're always making random claims without any proof or actual reasoning behind it.

 

If, in fact, the neutrino can travel faster than the speed of light this destroys the know Laws of Physics and would allow for time travel - simple as that. Well it isn't simple, but travelling faster than the speed of light allows for time travel. Also, time travel isn't how you think it. If you travel away from the earth fast enough and then come back fast enough you travel in time because the faster you go the slower time goes. You can be gone 6,000 years if you travel away and back to the earth at near the speed of light then you will come back only slightly aged while everyone you know will be gone and the world will be changed.

I'd say it depends on how you define time travelling.

If you define it as going back/forward in time I'm giving a solid no.
However if you'd be talking about slowing down time I believe it's possible.
Theres already differences between two atom clocks after a few plane trips around the earth. If you drastically increase speed(the closer to light speed you get) the slower time goes.

 

Well i read somewhere that there is evidence that that occurs ( faster you move slower time moves), It is evident during the time astranauts leave the atmosphere and gain speed, but it is extremely slight.

 

Traveling into another dimension that is just as equal as ours is completely mind blowing. Its possible but I don't think we will ever be able to create technology that will let us ever witness it for ourselves.

I think time travel should be regarded the same way as trying to move at -10MPH It's possible to go at 0.00000001 MPH, but not any less than that.

 

That's not really time travel at all. Velocity is simply a vector, so if you're moving at -10MPH, you will be moving at that speed in the opposite direction. As for your second point, it's possible to de-accelerate to 0MPH. What are you trying to imply?

 

No you wont. If you go backwards at 10MPH, you are still going at 10MPH. The speedometer still says 10MPH

It is technically not possible to reach 0MPH either, because of atom vibration etc etc, but the same applies to reaching the speed of light.

Yes, traveling at -10 MPH is the same as traveling 10MPH in the opposite direction. If you can't grasp that concept, go study basic vectors.

I don't think you understand why objects cannot reach the speed of light. To travel at the speed of light, you require an infinite amount of energy. I don't see how your point of particles traveling at 0.00001 MPH has any relevance.

Now let me educate you in the difference between speed and velocity: Speed is velocity in ANY GIVEN DIRECTION it is impossible to travel at a negative speed

Velocity is speed in A PARTICULAR DIRECTION which is different. I havent yet said velocity until this post.

Second of all, the main reason reaching the speed of light is impossible, is not because of the amount of energy required (Light can travel at the speed of light) but because of E = MC^2 which states that mas becomes energy over time with a correlation to velocity. Upon achieving the speed of light, 100% of the object is converted into energy.

What I am stating is that absolute time travel is not possible (EG moving back 5 years into the past) while relative travel is (Moving half a second for every second IRL) And, I can expand to say that time travel has it's cost, be it getting vaporized into electromagnetic radiation, or something else

First, light consists of photons, which have a dual nature of particles and waves. Hence since they are massless, they are able to travel at the speed of light.

Second, your reasoning is incorrect.

The mass cannot be converted into energy, since the mass will tend to infinity, and as a result of the equivalence, the energy will tend to infinity.

Now, if you travel at the speed of light, simply sub the value c into v. Your two speed of light constants will cancel out and become 1.

Hence, you will then have mc^2/sqrt(1-1)

You will then have 0 on the denominator, hence showing that you will indeed require an infinite amount of energy if you travel at the speed of light.

As for your point on relativistic time travel, minus the vaporization thing, Agreed. However, I would like more clarification on that.

 

Right now, I don't think it's possible maybe some time in the future, when we get allot smarter. I know "tele portation" is possible I've seen scientists do "Teleportation" with chocolate bars/Water. It would be a little bit different with a human though billions of things could go wrong when the body tries to go back to the same peace which would be near enough impossible.

I don't think it's possible right now, but one day it might be possible.

 

I don't think it's possible yet. It would be really messed up if a bunch of people did it to fix the problems of the past to create a sort of butterfly effect like you mess one thing up the future is messed up.
