    Is time travel possible?

That is similar to the causality effect, but just reversed to your statement. A made B and B made A.

As for time travel, the current consensus in physics is, that its impossible to PHYSICALLY time travel. Especially backwards in time, there is some debate if we can physically move forward, but most agree we cant go back.

Now, it is POSSIBLE to see into the future, we just don't have the technology YET. Im going to try and best explain this as i can, my old professer nailed it, but i forgot the lecture, since it was quite a few years ago.
If we had a lens powerful enough to bend the curvature of the universe, and that we could look into that curve, that went on forever, we would end up back where we started, but instead of looking at ourself in the present, we would be looking at ourselfs in the future.

    Is time travel possible?

    Yes. At night time,
    Steps:
    1) make sure it's night time (usually around midnight - 3 AM)
    2) Lay in bed and close your eyes
    3) wait 10 minutes.
    4) ????
    5) HOLY SHIT IT'S MORNING. Profit.
    6) Infracted.

I will believe its possible until someone proves otherwise.

    Is time travel possible?

It's possible to travel to the future by going at the speed of light, and that would probably be the easiest and most straightforward method. I heard that electrons can move faster than the speed of light in certain conditions, so it makes breaking the "light barrier" more feasible for us, even though we are still a long way off.

Thanks for posting! So far most people say that going faster than the speed of light is faster than speed of time, I find it pretty interesting to think about.

    Is time travel possible?

Well, its not the electrons themselves that can move faster then the speed of light. Its a phenomenon called Quantum Entanglement, its a easy concept to grasp at a non mathematical view. So if your interested, i suggest watching a few youtube videos about it.

Also the fabric of space-time can also travel faster then the speed of light.

    Is time travel possible?

I don't think it is possible. The only way I think it could exist is if time doesn't really exist. This would only occur if all the paths you could take exist together. Each of the possibilities would have to be accessible from another.

    Is time travel possible?

I think in about some years maybe 100, we would be able to, look at how we're advancing in technology today, i think it could be possible, but we'd need to bring back albert einstein to help us.

    Is time travel possible?

Its not just all these paradoxes that time travel can cause, also just think about basic laws of physics.

"No two pieces of matter may occupy the same space at the same time."

If you went back in time, even though it would seem like empty space, everything, the universe is inhabited by a specific amount of matter and energy. You arriving back in time would disrupt that, unless you were always planned to go back in time which in fact would not make it going back in time because it would be your future and all you really did was the equivalent of a man driving to the end of the street to go into the store because thats where he was supposed to be.

    Is time travel possible?

I don't know as much about this kind of thing, although it does interest me a bit, so go easy on me, lol.

Anyways, with all this different dimensions talk and what not, let's say that some other 'beings' somehow have managed to create a way to travel to the past/future/what not in their dimension and have had the ability for *insert some time period that occurred really really long ago(in our understanding of time)*.

So...if they had found some way to get across to other dimensions, and had some way to ignore this(our) dimension's laws of physics, logic, ya di da...would they be able to take us even further to the past than we would normally be allowed(going by the 'can only go back as far as the creation date of "our" time machine, whenever it get's made)?

If you need me to clarify anything I've said, please just ask. I tried to make it as understandable as I could. ;D

Don't know if anybody said this already but if you could find a way to preserve your body through time you could travel forward. But I'm not sure about traveling to the past.

That's not really "time traveling". It's more "waiting" until the future comes.

    Is time travel possible?

Of course time travel isn't possible.
Ever hear of a principle called 'paradox?'
These shoot holes through any and all existing time-travel theories.
    Time. Travel. Is. Impossible.

    Is time travel possible?

It's theoretically possible to travel into the future. It revolves around the concept of time dilation. A though experiment was devised to explain this concept and is called the Twin Paradox.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_paradox

I think you have space-time confused. It doesn't have a speed associated with it. Think of space-time as a fourth coordinate to your already existing three space coordinates in space.

If you are really interested in this subject i suggest you watch a movie called Primer, its great. As for your question Ill answer just like I do when people ask me if there is a god... I DONT KNOW, but logically thinking, probably not

    Is time travel possible?

I heard someone said before that if a person travels at the speed of light,
he/she will come back younger than the others. Is this another type of time travel?

Also, some interesting things that we can do if time travel is true. Let's say we have stole $1 million dollars from the bank and then travel through time to the moment before we stole the $1 million dollars.

Does the bank lose $1 million dollars and we gain the same amount or does the bank have the $1 million dollars with them and we brought back a extra $1 million dollars? Parallel universe theory perhaps.

Anyways, I don't think we are in the right position to discuss about Time Travel since even the most famous scientists doesn't have a clue on it.

    Is time travel possible?

Technically we're all time travelling, right now. Time is the fourth dimension of reality. 3-dimensional space and time itself knit a fabric together (aptly referred to as space-time) which is what we're all moving through every conceivable moment of every day. Thus, we're travelling - seemingly forward - through time.

Einsteinian relativity predicts that the faster you move, i.e. the closer you get to the speed of light, the slower time moves to compensate. This is because space and time are related. Put together, they must be a constant, so in order to compensate for the increased space traveled time itself must slow. This itself is observable in subatomic particles in a laboratory, however to approach such speeds is nigh on impossible for anything much larger, for example a human. We're still affected by such relativistic time, for sure, however it's on such a small scale that it's not at all detectable.

Einstein also postulated that it is impossible for anything to move faster than the speed of light, and thus, while time may slow, there's no conceivable way to actually stop or reverse time itself.

Consider a clock. When you see it say 8 O'clock, what's actually happening is that the light is bouncing off the clock before hitting your eyes. This takes time, albeit an infinitesimally small amount. Suppose you were travelling at say, 80% the speed of light, away from the clock then. Relative to you, the light that would reach your eyes to say "8 O'clock" is thus taking longer to reach your eyes, as you're moving away. Because of this, time would indeed appear to be slowed. Now consider if you were moving AT the speed of light. The clock would be frozen at "8 O'clock." If you were to go any faster (which is impossible) then you would theoretically be seeing the light which may say "7:59".

    Edit:

This reminds me of Charles Yu's "How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe"
