    Time Travel. Is It Possible?

    One of my favorite quotes:
Because time is relative to the speed one is traveling at, there can never be a clock at the center of the universe to which everyone can set their watches; thus, time is unique to each and every person, depending on the speed you are moving of course. For example, your entire life is the blink of an eye to an alien traveling close to the speed of light.

However, as someone who has taken several college level physics courses, time travel is possible. For example, an object traveling at high speeds ages slower than a stationary object. This means that if you were to travel into outer space and return, moving near the light speed, you could travel thousands of years into the Earth's future.

Researchers have proposed ways in which backward and forward time machines can be built that do not seem to violate any known laws of physics. Remember that the laws of physics tell us what is possible. The physics of time travel is still in its infancy. While most physicists today admit that time travel to the future is possible, many still believe time travel to the past will never be easily attainable. Don't believe anyone who tells you that humans will never have efficient technology for backward and forward time travel. Accurately predicting future technology is nearly impossible, and history is filled with underestimates of technology.

    Time Travel. Is It Possible?

I saw this tv program about a plane that went around the world with an atomic clock (very verryy acurate) and had it synched with one on the ground. When the plane came full circle the one on the plane was like .00000001 seconds slower/faster

I say no, its not possible. at least not in the near future, but who knows o_OO

You guys ever thought of this, Yes if you could time travel, Wouldnt they stoped hitler?

But insteadof moving back in time. How about bring that part of time in the time line |---past----Present----future----|

You see while moving into the past you go back into time, But move the past to the future it would like this
    |---present----past----future----|

Thats what would happen because like you said you can not move in time, but why not make time move?

doc off of back to the future tells us that making a lot of fuss in the futere/past is bad and can alter your original time line much like the butterfly effect

This is what i was going to say. If time travel was possible, we would have known it aaaages ago because people would have already come to the past and told us.

Time Travel would be possible but in order to define the past and the future you must have a present and if you can time travel there is no more defined present.

    Time Travel. Is It Possible?

Think about it. If they stopped Hitler, World War 2 wouldn't happen the same way, or possibly not at all. If that were the case then fascism could still be a problem in many European countries as well as our technology could be set back a couple of decades because there was no war.

The world is a better place today because of World War 2, so I see no reason why they would try to stop Hitler.

    Time Travel. Is It Possible?

You guys can't possibly say it won't happen. We don't have a total understanding on the workings of the universe.

Some concepts of time traveling involve turning a machine on that would only allow traveling back to the date the machine was turned on. This would eliminate the whole well people would be traveling back to see us bit. Also, you have no idea if the people in the future AREN'T here right now. Just because they aren't idiots and brag about time traveling doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I recommend watching Donnie Darko and The Butterfly Effect. I suspect time travel will actually be more like this.

    Time Travel. Is It Possible?

What you have to understand is that matter can NOT be created, nor destroyed. To time travel into the past would defy this theory. And, if you were to time travel into the past, you would also have to "create time"; which is theoretically impossible as well.

What it boils down to, in my opinion, is that the only possible way of time traveling is to travel into the future. By possible, I mean that it is theoretically possible; but it couldn't be done. But, for the sake of the debate; I'll post my theory on how I believe that it is possible.

I like to believe that black holes are set up a bit like this where point A equals the beginning of a black hole; and point B is where the black hole ends. (Everything that has a beginning has an end).

    A ----------------- B

The "---"s represent a point of non-existence, so to speak. But, whatever enters a black hole gets spit out in less than a split second. However, the distance from point A to point B is millions upon millions of light years. Because entering a black hole would basically distort you, you would instantly die but still exist. What I'm trying to get at here is that you would technically be in the future; but would know because you would be microscopic particles floating around in the endless universe.

You could go through all of that trouble, or just get into a coma. To you, it would feel like a few seconds but in reality it can range from days to years. xD

You ever think of jesus re-walking the earth? Wouldn't that count as coming from the past?

Not at all. That's called waiting.

And it won't happen, but that's another discussion^_^

    Time Travel. Is It Possible?

No, i learned in my physics class, that people in spaceships travel in time by like 0.00002 seconds back in time, becuase of the speed that they are traveling at, but to be capable of traveling in times for even seconds would be impossible unless we could attain like 800000 km/h, which is impossible, because it would kill us to be travelling at that speed anyways.
